    Tidus is low key a badass despite being a cry baby, the guy had to endure killing his father to save the world and also end himself. There was nothing to win for him, he gained control over his own life by ending it to save others. He is an amazing character and it's inspiring.

      Because his detractors have carried on since the original game about him being justifiably upset about a lot of things in the game. That and the laughing scene.

    Jecht: "I'm sorry."
    Tidus: "That's enough! Let's finish this, okay?"
    This part got me. He spent most of his life hating his father, now he finally meets him, and realized he wasn't such a bad guy. He stopped his father's sentimental talk, because he was afraid he would lose his will to do what needed to be done. To destroy his father before Sin claimed him completely. One of the most emotionally charged scenes in the game.

    The way Jecht says "You've really grown" is done perfectly. He wants to say something nice, compliment his son, but he's no good at that kind of stuff. All he can say is that Tidus has really grown, but the way he says it gives it weight, like behind those 3 simple words he's also saying he's happy to see the man Tidus has become

      Yeah, I love how awkward Jecht is at the father stuff. He misses Tidus. Seeing him again has been his motivation along the journey. He's been looking forward to seeing him for who knows how long and what comes out of his mouth?
      "Hah, You got tall but you're all bones. You eating right, boy?".
      Then he immediately corrects himself and says "... you've really grown."

    • @Impalingthorn
      @Impalingthorn 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Coincidentally, Tidus has a moment of his own like this. One of my favorite tropes: Physical acting and tone telling a different story than what is literally said.
      Tidus says "I hate you".
      But it's like James from Silent Hill 2 telling Mary in the Leave Ending that he hated her. The response is all the same, "If that were true, why do you look/sound so sad?".
      Tidus telling Jecht that he hated him in that scene was quite literally the closest he would ever get to telling Jecht that he loved him.

      I think if they had to do this with today's technology where they could re-lipsync everything the performance would have been a lot better. The only reason that some of it comes off as awkward is the timing of the mouth movements in some places didn't allow for a more natural phrasing in the dialog. Overall it was really well done and the emotion is perfect despite those few moments. People complain too much.

  • @lolcreloux
    @lolcreloux 7 ปีที่แล้ว +389

    I get FFX is all about a tragic impossible love story between Yuna and Tidus - but I think there's also a lot more than just Yuna Tidus. Tidus grew from hating his father to actually understanding him, that's why when he says the "I hate you" at the beginning, he means it in a loving way and not like back in the beginning of the game. I loved that father-son development and this is why Tidus is a lot more mature than some might say. Noctis is a bigger cry baby than Tidus and yet people make him look like he's the most badass character of all FF.

    • @ZeroTheHeartlessKing
      @ZeroTheHeartlessKing 7 ปีที่แล้ว +49

      while i don't think of noctis as a crybaby (most of the shit he gets is somewhat justify but you have to watch the animated movie to see some of it but) you are right about tidus, he gets alot of shit for having actual parental problems that doesn't fall to "my family is dead, feel sorry for me" after all tidus blames jecht for his mothers death and the verbal, emotional and maybe even (unknown but maybe) physical abuse.
      honestly the most bitchy characters to me is most of the FF13 cast (altho i know i don't care for FF13 so i know i have some bias) and vaan lol

What pissed me off about Noctis was how he just got so irritating after Lunaria's death, I get he loved her but he barely gave a shit about Ignis losing his sight and made it all about himself as if he's friends were burden. Through the years, the most fascinating tale in this story is the respect that Jecht and Auron have for themselves. Auron kept to his word for 10 years, literally abdicating the rest of his life to serve a single purpose, as did Jecht, and when they saw eachother for the first time after all of this, Jecht instead of thanking Auron for giving up his life for his son scolds him, "You're late Auron", and the thing is, he didn't need to thank him at all, because they both know for a fact that if the tables were turned, Jecht would do the same in a heartbeat, heck, he gave up his life to save a world he barely knew. That kind of trust is very hard to be written believably, it is subtle, and very realistic.

    I really have to hand it to Gregg Berger in this scene. He does a great job of letting Jecht’s real emotions seep through the tough talk with his inflection and timing with the dialogue. In a dub that has a history of being questionable, I’ve never been disappointed with his performance.

    Honestly my most saddest scene in all of FF is when Tidus meets his dad (Jecht), the dialogue, the emotion it’s so so sad, so gut-wrenching. When Tidus says ‘I hate you’. You can feel the pain and anguish in Jechts voice, the regret, and the anger and sadness in Tidus and also how much he actually loves his dad, that’s just his way of saying ‘I love you’. Because he chases after him immediately to catch him when he falls. He’s been dying to see him the whole game, and actually only gets a few tragic minutes with him. It’s the biggest tragedy in all of FF for me makes me cry this father-son relationship 😢.
    The music too in that scene too 😢.
    Tidus had so much character development from hating his dad to forgiving him and loving him, and from a young kid to becoming a man and taking the reigns. I mean it was his idea to kill Yunalesca and Sin.
    Other scenes that come to mind is Jecht and Braskas goodbye to Auron with Aurons plea to stop, Aurons sending and of course the ending scene 😢

    Kids these days sadly won't experience the joy and excitement 90's kids had when games had heart, soul, blood, sweat and tears poured into a project. When Jecht re-emerged as the beast and the intro song played I lost my shit and had so much adrenaline for this battle. Coming off of ff 7, 8 and 9, 10 blew me out of the water. When I first saw the intro I knew I was in for a wild ride.

    Jecht had a bit of brilliance there that you don't get until later.
    Normally when an Aeon is defeated everything about it vanishes.
    But his sword remained despite him shifting back down.
    So knowing that the current body was about to be defeated Yu-Yevon fled to await the Final Aeon that it would take over once the old host is destroyed. But likely it couldn't break the link fully until the old one was gone but since Jecht left that part behind, it anchored Yu-Yevon to it, long enough that Yuna could unsummon any she might have had out during the battle.
    So faced with the fact that there was no other host, just the remaining power of the old body, Yu-Yevon is forced to absorb what it can to begin making its new form and leaving it open until then.

    Jecht is my favorite character in FFX. His design is striking, his sword is stupid and badass simultaneously, and his story is one of my favorites. Tidus was a small kid and a bit of a cry baby, and positive encouragement was only going so far, so Jecht became this mountain for Tidus to overcome, as a professional blitzball player he knew that competitive rivalry motivates both parties to be better then ever. It was all reverse psychology. When he leaves Zanarkand for the real world, we see the man behind the antagonistic facade, he is confused, he is homesick, he misses his family, and finds happiness in the new friends he made and the fun adventures they are having.

    I actually understand what Tidus is going through here. I used to think the old guy I lived with (not related to me, but raised me) was just a quiet heartless man who didn't really care about us kids. Later I learned about scars from Vietnam that he never really got over. And he had to deal with my mooch of a grandmother. He could've tried to open up more. I suppose he did his best though, in the way he knew how. That love-hate relationship I had with him endures to this day. It's complicated. He was 63 when I left. in 2010. Haven't seen the man since.

    Voice acting in this game is great, some line delivery doesn’t sound natural because 1. English lines had to match up to existing Japanese lip sync (like where Tidus says “That’s enough!”) and 2. Apparently there was a glitch where if the English voice clip ran longer than the Japanese voice clip, it would crash the game or something, so the localization team HAD to make the English line equal length or shorter (like when Tidus says “Hi” it sounds rushed and cut off). The restrictions definitely make a few lines in the game sound weird, but the rest sounds great.

  • @Spritzkrieg
    @Spritzkrieg ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Lots of folks say they don't understand why the voice acting is hated - I don't understand the people who say THAT! I feel like several key moments are almost ruined by awkward acting...at least if you're playing with a friend, 'cause then you really notice awkwardness. I'm just speculating, but I can't help but think it's not the actors' faults. Who knows if they were fed the story details and blocking and stuff in a structured or chronological way? Lots of lines feel like they were recorded completely in a vacuum or something. I don't know, but I struggle to believe voice actors like these ones are actually just that bad. Plus several of their lines are damn amazing.
    Also, the laughing scene will not be your strawman, I think the bad laughter is awesome and it's super obvious that it's intentional.
    Anyway. The only characters who never, ever have bad lines are Auron and Jecht, they are unstoppable badasses

  • @user-pi1lb4tf2f
    @user-pi1lb4tf2f 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    Auron is the most important factor in the story. Sin/Jecth and Tidus are immortals as they exist outside reality and Jecth can pull him out of it but without Auron, he might not be able to control Sin to travel in the dream Zanarkand that's why he teased Auron being late because this is their gambit in ending the cycle. Only Tidus can help Jecth to gain more control to Sin so they can lure the Yu yevon out. Without Auron, they have to wait again until Jecth can gain some control of his own as sin and Spira would be atleast 50% destroyed by then.

      I always assumed she wanted to thank him for protecting her father during his pilgrimage and wanted to apologize for how things turned out. Becoming Sin is a horrible reward for saving the world, after all. And despite the violence, Jecht dies peacefully, accepting his death and fading away before their eyes. We only get Jecht’s story from Titus’s perspective, but it’s easily one of the most tragic stories in all of Final Fantasy.

      In the japanese version she just says "ano" which if you've watched subbed anime before, this is equivalent to "umm." So it's really unclear what she was going to do. But her tone of voice in the jp version makes me think she wanted to express her feelings to Jecht before he was gone.

    What continues to bother me to this day is - I can't figure out what the hell Yu Yevon is. If I were to go off the storyline, Yu Yevon was a human summoner but hell if what we fight at the end looks, or even acts human to me. I mean... he comes across as what the game portrays him as, a parasite, one that infects and possesses Aeons. Wasn't he said to have been Lady Yunalesca's father or... something?

    • @jovanniorcullo1686
      @jovanniorcullo1686 4 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      He was the High Summoner of Zanarkand during the war againts Bevelle. During the war they were outmatched and Bevelle was determined to destroy them. So he asked the surviving people of Zanarkand to help him summon a great power and they would become his "shield". He's a parasite of some sort since it's like a final command thinking that they are still at war since the summons are shells of souls he would always merge with them since he has more power over the collected souls.

      Yu Yevon created Sin and ascended to what he is now to win the war against Zanarkand...the problem is, the war never ended. All this time later, Sin still exists to inflict sorrow and misery on Spira. Ironically, Bevelle turns to religion as a way to "escape" this fate, worshipping the very being who damned Spira to a cycle of death.
