Like you say, Rob, despite day 3 being a wet and sloggy day, you were rewarded with perfect evening weather. As for me, I enjoyed watching it and it sounds like the Barnes Brinkcraft engineer is an absolute legend in his field.
hi robin this where we spent the night at pacific and moored up in the exact same spot as yoand we to found the owner very helpful with the pump out water fill and refuel and he helped us reverse in for our stern mooring, he was quite surprised with us when we told him we was first timers on the broads as he said not many first timers come across Breydon in fact he said that we was the first first timers he come across, we had a pleasant nights sleep here and set off early for I think we was heading to Norwich or we was returning from Norwich and heading to oulton broad cant remember which way now but we would certainly stay at pacific again if Loddon was full and we went the last week of September to first week of October last year (2018)
Derek G These three blogs for Brinks Royale have been very good and also seeing all you other blogs has fired up my enthusiasm for a holiday on the broads after 35 odd years and have now booked a holiday for may 2015 so robin when are you going to post day 4 5 6? which I am looking forward to.
Hi Robin you have me hooked we spend many a night me and you as i sit and watch your blogs ( Steady ) I have been to the broads before and this October have booked Sovereign Light from Herbert Woods. Lets hope the weather will be something like you had last time you visited in the month of October. This time i am taking a few bits of fishing tackle, Now i know your not a fisherman well not seen you fish yet on your blogs but if you get the chance next time your up there can you maybe add a few bits in your blog where you have found out where is good and not so good to fish. Thanks again Robin keep up the blogs they are most informative and Hope Mum and Dad are well Steve OH PS great tunes where do you find them all ?
Looking at the side covers on the canopy I would have tucked them under the metal rails the hold the canopy up. So you only have to unflip them as the top half is still attached & just connect the bottom half. If that makes sense Simples :-)
That is a good point Jenny :)Problem is you have to undo two sides and the bungee cords at the bottom, then roll up and tuck the side parts under the metal frame - that still would take time to do - just as unzipping the rear part, rolling up and using the press-stud straps to hold it up in its rolled up state took time. It is not effort/time that was the issue for me, it is trying to do this mid river either approaching a mooring, or having left a mooring (remember I had no one to take the whell while I attended to the canopy) So overall I decided bugger the lot, take them down cover the seats to keep the worse of the water off them and carry on cruising, only putting them all back in place once I had moored for the night. It has taught me never to own a boat with a canopy that you need to undo and do up after each mooring though it would drive me mad especially if was a cold autumn day.
Martin Lawrance I've had big problems with this video - each time I have uploaded it, it has been muted because of a track I have included. I am hopeful this time around all will be 'allowed' and should be live later today. It is becoming increasingly hard to use music in videos with You Tube in recent months.
***** There is another Broadophile, whose name eludes me just now, who posts videos of the Broads using free download music by a performer called 'Lino Rise'. Another who provides free downloads uses the name 'longzijun' both have music on TH-cam and both have music very appropriate to boating. Might be worth having a look.
Martin Lawrance This is a good point, but it is often the case I will choose music I want to feature before I have even booked a boat and gone, then film around it. Therefore when the music is muted because of Copyright it rather annoys me but I can't complain - I'll have a look into the music you mention.
That is really hard to say - but you pay a fuel deposit, usually £150.00 - this is not a tank of fuel, just £150.00 worth of fuel - usually your use about £85 to £110 in a week if you use some heating (Diesel run about 250ml per hour to 500ml an hour) so you'd get a refund of some of your deposit. Cruise less hours in a day, go slower, go with the current and your fuel use will fall dramatically and you might only spend £60 in a week.
To be honest Unless it was going to be hot all day I wouldn't take the covers off totally or roll them up. Just simply un attach them near the walkway (no rolling up) just simply tuck under the metal structure that golds the tup up. As if you were tucking your bottom sheet under the bed. Thud not talking to much effort to put together if the heavens open. See I would find simple ways around a problem :-) The rear canopy get two bungee cord thing hook them together attach either end to the metal frame & tuck it in. Might not make a load of sense but when your there doing it at the time. You think why dint I think of that moment :-)
This sounds like I have issue with your suggestions and the canopy - I don't, but I have never had a boat that had this sort of arrangement and the fact is it is not a very easy thing to. If you left them tucked up it would just not look very nice externally, it is why I did not want just one side removed and the other in place. In the end having them removed worked the best but I certainly won't be hiring a boat with this sort of arrangement again - far nicer the type of boat with a door at the back to simply open like Brinks Omega, Mystic Horizon or Brinks Belmore

great videos as always, how much fuel on average do these boats use? like a rough mpg? cheers :)

The Captain's Blog Ok not as much as I thought then, thanks for a very informative reply :) I'm off to watch some more of your vids, thanks again.
To me that helm seat could do with a backrest cushion.
