Personally, would go GTS cuz I like the handling dynamics. But you can't go wrong with both. The SL is more about cruising comfortably and stylishly, with that roaring V8. Also to add to the bulbous-looking rear end of the 911 cabriolet, this is why I love the Turbo S cab. The rear wing really balances out the rear.
100% agreed. Especially comparing the Turbo vs Carrera models. The 992’s rear end hasn’t grown on me, especially when looking back at the beautiful 991.

The major thing for me is the cruise control placement. Mercedes gets it right, Porsche gets it dead wrong. I will not buy a Porsche for that reason alone. The entire purpose of an automobile is motion. Cruise control controls motion; that has logical priority over a "phone"!

The only 2 sports cars I’ve driven in my life were an older sl55, and a new 911. The 911 was beautiful, but I have to say the V8 and big deep sounding exhaust of the sl55 kind of made it more exciting and fun

Im a BMW fan, but since its release Ive fallen in love with the sl 63, or this 55. I agree the rear looks a bit odd compared to the front, which I love. I like the interior of it as well compared to other Mercedes products. Recently Merc has been doing too much closs and too many screens. the sl does not have that. But the car I do love
Matt, it needs clarification - the SL 55 does not feature the electrified turbochargers, nor does even the 63. Within the SL model line it's the 43 only that has that technology applied. As for the AMG's current line up, the only models with an electrified turbocharger are C 43, SL 43 and C 63 S E PERFORMANCE.
I really love the porsche 911, but not the cabrio version (the Targa is much more stylish); at the same time the new mercedes sl is one of the most beautiful car I’ve ever seen (according to my tastes at least), therefore I’d buy that one
Two stunning cars! 9 times out of 10 in tests between Porsche against anything I prefer Porsche 992:s but in this match the win goes to Mercedes. Such a beautiful car.
No one would ever expect a Mercedes, AMG or not, to beat a Porsche (comparably powered, priced, and equipped). Porsche just builds possibly the best sports cars and SUVs in the industry. However, I'd take the SL55 :-)
never driven them but in terms of styling i'd definitely go for Mercedes. I feel like the AMG styling is much better and more aggressive which looks better on this type of car
As the owner of a 997 Carrera 4 GTS Cabriolet, I'm of course biased. Of course the 911 wins if driving is the aim. Worth mention would be the feeling of being in either of these cars as they would be used in the cold. Top down driving has it's limits. Living in Canada, I do try to get out for drives in spring and fall wearing a warm wind block jacket and even toque and gloves when called for. But, it's sometimes wonderful to button up and enjoy the intimate cockpit with cloth overheard. Of note, I find 911 Cabs (Boxster vs Cayman; 911 Coupe vs Cab) less "frenetic" and more relaxing when you want to relax. The extra space/distance to the engine behind the driver in the 911 vs the entry level twins, and the cloth roof in the 911 Cab vs Coupe, brings a more refined feel to the engine music, I'll offer. It would be nice Matt, to include some commentary of the driving experience thus, since most drivers who are going to year-round drive their cars are likely to spend most of the colder months top up.
Both look great. However with the news that the AMG GT convertible is being absorbed into the SL, I have to say the SL doesn't look nearly as classic as the GT vert.
The SL is a beautiful car compared to other new Mercedes models and I love the interior but i would never pick a Mercedes over a Porsche especially if it’s a GTS model. Porsche is just the best car brand.
Looking at the whole car as you described I would take the Mercedes. It has the better interior and better options than the Porsche. It also looks better to me than the Porsche on the outside. It also sounds better when driving. I like the luxury of the Mercedes and that is why I would take the Mercedes.
I think that your opinion I have driven both in the interior in the Mercedes is nicer by far more comfortable and better quality leather, but everybody has choices

Before watching the video: Porsche, clear as day. They make things differently. I drive a 911 myself and it can’t be compared to any other supercar. Like you drive 300+ km/h on the Autobahn and it feels so casual like it feels like 180 but you are driving 300 and how direct is the steering, unbelievable. I love that car! My absolute favorite with the Ferrari 812 GTS.
I'm a huge Porsche-Fan, but in this case I would pick the SL. I just don't like 911 convertibles. With a 911 Targa however the choice would clearly be 911 again.
The hump/ baboon’s arse on the 911 kills it , V8 growl wins it,also the merc interior and kit seems a smidge above the Porsche to me🤔SL63 coming soon so my fantasy decision will have to wait😂
