      Even if you don't do a reaction playthrough to it, I still recommend playing Spartan Ops in your own time, as you get a lot of dialog during the missions, like you do during the main campaign, that you won't see in the cutscenes.
      Also, if your're playing Halo 5 next and doing a trailer reaction, you definitely want to watch this one 👇 (Halo 5 Gameplay trailer) as its the best one for Halo 5 in my opinion. You might get a copyright strike from the music in it, but the music makes the trailer 🤙

      @@GamerJoobChannel To be clear though, it is humanity's biggest ship by far. A true super-carrier. About 5.6 km long, no other human ship comes close.
      It started being built in secret with the most powerful human, captured covenant, and reclaimed forerunner technology to be the most powerful warship and a last refuge for humanity if Earth fell.
      It took 9 years to build and would have taken a lot longer had it not been for the few Huragok (AKA: Engineers, Virgil the floating alien/computer from Halo 3: ODST was one) captured from the Covenant.
      It's also the first Human ship to have shields. During the human-covenant war, covenant shielding ended up giving the covenant ships such an advantage that it took an average of 3 human ships to take down 1 covenant ship of equal class.
      There was another ship just like the Infinity being built afterwards called the Eternity, but its few systems that had been completed ended up being used to repair the Infinity.

      Oh yes, humanity's population dwindled to 200 million people, resources and weapons as precious commodities , all by the end of 2552. And somehow in 4 years time humanity makes a ship 3 and a half miles long as well as giant fleet, new spartan program, and weapons. Honestly, it just seems impossible.

    • @spartanatreyu
      @spartanatreyu 3 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      @@cleanserofnoobs4162 It wasn't 4 years, it was much longer.
      The Infinity's construction started in the 2540s.
      Humanity's fleets are limited to defensive fleets and one attack/response/exploratory fleet (which the infinity heads when it isn't doing major objectives like decommissioning halo installations or major battles)
      The Spartan II program had been running for decades and it's technological developments had started trickling down into other programs (navy/army infantry, ODSTs, headhunter spec ops, etc...). Parts of the Spartan II program became declassified in the second half of the war with military companies testing and producing their own armour variants for spartans. Then by the end of the Human-Covenant war, humanity had become desperate enough to essentially throw out any risks and started augmenting adult solidiers into the Spartan IV's, with even civilian companies working on their equipment. The Spartan IV's are basically meant to replace the ODSTs but with almost Spartan II performance.

    A sidenote on Dr. Halsey; She is the perfect scientist. Someone referred to her as a moral gray area, and by Palmer she's a condescending b*, but she is one of the most complex characters in Halo. Don't take her words by heart. She 's above petty revenge, and what she's saying often contradicts her actions. Lying to get an upper hand is one of her strong suits. She is manipulative, that's for sure. I personally love her.

But when terrorist start killing billions in a single failed action, morals can be applied later. The job is first. And she will destroy anything to get the job done.

    Also admiral osman was one of the children taken for the Spartan II programme, however did not successfully complete the augmentation process. Afterwards, ONI took her in and repaired the damages and rose through the ranks, becoming admiral.

      Karen Traviss took a steaming dump on established Halo lore with the Kilo-Five trilogy. Admiral Osman getting her jollies by watching security camera footage of Halsey crying in her cell because she was mourning John-117, and Jacob and Miranda Keyes (her ex and her daughter, respectively) should tell you all you need to know about Karen Traviss's thoughts on Halsey.
      There's literally a line in one of those books where an ONI AI says Halsey is worse than Stalin and Hitler combined because of the human costs of the Spartan program...
      She singlehandedly saved the ENTIRE GALAXY by conscripting John-117, but kidnapping 75 kids makes her worse than the two most brutal dictators in human history...
      Forgetting the fact that Osman's predecessor, Parangosky, who LITERALLY HIRED HALSEY TO CREATE THE SPARTAN-IIs; was also the mastermind behind The Mona Lisa incident.
      Deliberately subjecting living humans and covenant races to the Flood to research a possible means to control it? That's A-OK in Osman's book.
      But creating child soldiers is apparently a "bridge too far" for Serin-019... Oops, I mean Osman.
      It seems to me that, more than anything else, Osman was just butthurt that she washed out of the Spartan program. Parangosky weaponized Osman's butthurt and groomed her into being a tool to continue her petty jealousy of Halsey. Parangosky envisioned herself as the second coming of Catherine the Great, and she hated the fact that Catherine Halsey is the only person she is unable to manipulate. She wanted to expand the Spartan-II program to include candidates with genetic markers that were less impressive than the original 75 candidates. Halsey said "fuck that"; took her ball and went home.

    • @stephenjenkins7971
      @stephenjenkins7971 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@nercksrule I was literally just reading the Kilo-Five trilogy, and no, BB never once said or thought that. He found it repulsive how easily Halsey justified herself and how despite it being personal she managed to "other-ify" children. With history's big monsters they could look at large numbers as statistics, but Halsey in a certain light DID do worse than they because she was so personally involved. It strikes at a certain human element. Obviously her actions by pure practical purposes were nowhere near as bad as such dictators, but from an emotional human standpoint? Yeah, you could see that.
      Also, let's not act like Osman was not entirely bias. She admits as such that she can and will do terrible things, but the personal action done against her left her with a vicious streak. That doesn't also get into personal stakes. Osman genuinely sticks her neck out far and wide for those she personally cares about, and probably can't fathom Halsey who would be personally involved with children and subjecting them to such horrible things. Put simply; Osman does indeed have her limits for personal relationships, but Halsey from her perspective does not at all.
      As for Margaret, you may be right. That doesn't mean Halsey doesn't deserve the shit she gets. It just means Margaret deserves her own shit too. My issue is not that Halsey doesn't get her just desserts, in fact she deserved way more than what amounts to a slap on the wrist. My issue is that Parangosky and Chief Mendez didn't really get reprimanded by someone else. But in that, that prolly really is Karen Traviss' bias poking out lol.
      But by no means did she wreck any lore. She brought in a new interpretation, but nothing in the trilogy contradicts anything else.

    Halo 4's campaign never really made mention of the fact that a whole new Spartan program was started. They never even say "Spartan-IV" in the game. It is cool too see them in action in high quality CGI cutscenes, even if Spartan-IVs aren't as cool as the IIs and IIIs.

    • @Franz082011
      @Franz082011 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Late but maybe this is due to the fact that information about the Spartan Program had largely been censored by ONI. Don’t fully remember where, but I believe the official statement was that Master Chief, along with many of the Spartan-IIs (possibly IIIs as well) were war vets who signed up for the supersoldier program. It’s entirely possible the general population believes that there was only 1 Spartan Program, I believe even information on Orion (technically Spartan-Is) is severely censored.
      Additionally the reason why Halsey regards S-IVs so lowly is because of the candidates. Spartan-Is are respected by Halsey due to the innovation and the fact that the candidates were all decorated/distinguished vets. S-IIs are her “children” so she obviously favors them (Halsey is also apparently able to distinguish the Spartans even when in the MJOLNIR armor when the armors were all identical). S-IIIs were created by her rival Col. Ackerson, so she does hold them to some disdain but overall seems to be pretty uncaring for them. The IVs is where it gets interesting. As seen in the H4 opening Halsey believes that the UNSC is attempting to “replace” Master Chief and her S-IIs. She views the IVs as lesser Spartans, and I believe she even petitioned to have them named Orion-IIs instead of “Spartan”. She looks down on IVs for their candidates, purpose, and not living up to her interpretation of “Spartan”.
      That said, if there’s ANYONE who gets to be an authority on what makes a Spartan it’s Halsey, and to a lesser extent Chief Mendez. Also side note, according to Kurt (a Spartan-II) the greatest Spartans were from S-III’s Gamma Company. Definitely worth reading up on them.

    The real tragedy. All this cool stuff. Majestic, M'dama, Palmer's character development, Halsey's supposed hatred/revenge on the UNSC, the janis key. None of it is in Halo 5 with the exception of like 2 minutes of M'dama before he's killed in a horribly made cutscene. Halo 4 wasn't perfect but it was a good stepping stone that was thrown away.

  • @mattd5857
    @mattd5857 3 ปีที่แล้ว +11

    The whole story arc with Halsey is very interesting, and frustrating, since she's basically a victim of her own success. She's a prisoner in Halo 4 because of the unethical practices used to make the Spartan IIs and that stuff only came to light because of how successful and important the Spartans became to humanity. The irony is also palpable with ONI being the ones to lock her up for her crimes given that the Spartan 2 and 3 projects were directly under ONI supervision and the Spartan projects were practically just happy go lucky summer camps for kids compared to some of the other crap ONI has done and continues to do.

    Spartan ops is perfect for showing the differences between Spartan IIs and most IVs, Spartan IIs are focused and disciplined, while most Spartan IVs are often irresponsible and emotionally driven, which is completely understandable because they are normal people that were augmented and not indoctrinated as children.

    The Infinity is quite awesome.
    She is the largest human ship ever built, at 18,000 feet long (slightly longer than a CAS class Covie carrier) , is fully shielded, which is something rarely seen in the UNSC's Navy, has 4 superMAC guns (which fire projectiles so with such velocity they break physics, but we'll ignore that) 2, in front, 2 in back, and is littered with dozens of smaller MAC cannons as well as way more coilguns, and like somebody had already mentioned in the comments, can carry up to 10 Strident or Anlace class Frigates in her belly.
    Also, it is theorized that she has over 300 Spartans IV's on board at all times.
    Oh, and her slipspace drivr utilizes both Covenant and Forerunner tech, giving it even more quick and precise jumps than pretty much every non-Forerunner ship in the galaxy.

    One thing I guess needs a bit of context to better understand Spartan Ops from just watching the cinematics is this: during the Spartan Ops in-game missions, your Spartan is part of Fireteam Crimson that ends ups discovering many key pieces for the Spartan Ops story and even pulling off some missions that help moving the story forward. That's why Crimson is being mentioned a lot in the cutscenes but never actually shown, because your multiplayer spartan is unique to each player.
    Fireteam Majestic on the other hand, is never directly shown during in-game missions, although they end up coordinating their operations with Crimson a lot of the time, with radio chatter between Crimson, Majestic, Palmer, Roland, Lasky and other minor characters. Fireteam Majestic serves more as an indirect reflection of Crimson's in-game actions and how they affect the narrative while also being characters of their own.

Side note: the "fire" coming through slipspace following the Infinity's escape from Requiem is coronal discharge from the star going nova, which would actually be a type of plasma (technically fire can't exist in a vacuum since there is no oxygen for it to burn).

    while all the cutscenes put us in the perspective of Team Majestic, the gameplay takes perspective from Team Crimson. and that's why it'd be much better to play this mode co-op. because story-wise, you fight as a team. so it'd feel very weird if you run and gun all by yourself. not to mention that it is a bit frustrating to play solo since it is balanced for co-op.
    the positive thing is, you can customize your own spartan from the looks to the weapon loadout.

    So glad you watched Spartan Ops, Jade! 👍 The gameplay element of Spartan Ops wasn't my favorite, but I definitely liked the story element of the Game Mode. Seeing the Spartan IV's up close and personal for the first time was so cool. They differ in many ways to the previous generations of Spartans, such as being more human. Most likely because their augmentations and training wasn't as brutal and dangerous. They also didn't start from such a young age like the Spartan II's. They're definitely easier to relate with on a human level. Spartan Thorne in particular is definitely an interesting character. (Also, Fireteam Crimson, the Spartan team mentioned throughout the video, is actually the Fireteam you play as in the Game Mode)
    A few points of interest I wanted to mention:
    At 22:12, you can see some of the memories of the Ancient Humans that were Composed by the Didact during the Human-Forerunner War, as well as the ones Composed in New Phoenix, during the attack on Earth at the end of Halo 4. (I mean, they are looking into the soul of a Promethean, after all.)
    At 27:43, you mentioned that the Storm Covenant were very religious. This is mostly due to the fact that they were formed upon the beliefs of the original Covenant that was disbanded at the end of Halo 3. Anything Forerunner is very pivotal to their religion, and the Forerunner's themselves are seen as gods, such as the Didact and the Librarian.
    Also, my boy LASKY is back! He makes such a great Captain and leader. Much more deserving of the title than Del Rio. And I mean, just look at him at 33:22. 👌 What a King! And the Spartan's reaction at 36:55 always get's me. 😂
    At 38:39, the reason Dr. Halsey was able to interact with the Librarian is because she is human. Only humanity is able to interface with Forerunner technology, as we've seen throughout the series. (Reclaimers were given the Mantle of Responsibility from the Forerunners) That's why the Prophet of Truth needed Johnson at the end of Halo 3, so he could activate the Ark and fire the Halo Array. (I'm sure you were aware of this already, but just thought it was worth mentioning 😊)
    The scene at 42:30 has some connections to Halo 5 that you will see when you go through the Campaign.
    This series also just drives home my opinion of Dr. Halsey even more, that she is one of my favorite characters in the Halo universe. Such a deep backstory to her with the Spartan program. And she literally will stop at NOTHING to get what she desires. She's quite possibly the most brave and ruthless ONI official the UNSC has ever seen. (Well, ex-ONI official) The part at 32:47 always hits me hard, when Halsey finds out that John is still alive. 😢 She has such a close bond with him, so it's understandable that she would be so angry with the UNSC for keeping that information from her. Also, the Admiral shown at 37:23 was actually one of the children that was kidnapped for the Spartan II program, but she failed in augmentation process and almost died. So you can really see why she has such a strong hatred for Dr. Halsey. (Also the reason Halsey was arrested is because the UNSC and ONI found out about all she did during the Spartan II program, such as kidnapping the children and putting them through all the training and dangerous augmentations. She was also seen in custody at the beginning of Halo 4, being interrogated by ONI)
    Also, if you're willing to, a reaction to "A Day at the Beach" would be cool. It's a short Halo 2 cinematic that follows Sergeant Stacker and a team of ODST's through the battle at New Mombasa. There is the original, as well as the remastered Halo 2: Anniversary version. Just thought I'd mention it, as it's a pretty cool little scene. 😊
    Thanks so much for reacting to this, Jade! 😊 It's a pretty important thing to watch in preparation for Halo 5, so you're aware of everything that is going on. I really hope they have a mode similar to Spartan Ops in Halo: Infinite, because playing as your very own Spartan and experiencing the story was something I really enjoyed from it. (And Reach, for that matter)
    Loved the vid, as always. 💙 I'm so excited for The Fall of Reach reaction and Halo 5! As always, keep up the ICONIC content! 👍 - Spartan

    They were ambitious with this mini-series; every real-time location of every Forerunner Tech.
    I can see why they scrubbed it before 5, but in all honesty the pacing and consistency in this is way more Cohesive and just the logical progression of the Halo Lore.

    3 fun facts:
    The infinity has a sister called the eternity that is still in construction and the are collectively called "humanity's life boats" on the account that they are top notch. They can not only keep up with but if used strategically and wisely can out match them too, evidenced by everyone's ship ramming scene
    The knights (big ones with the swords) play differently in halo 5 than in 4. Instead of just "shoot it till it dies" like every other enemy, they now have 2 glowing points on their 'shoulders?' one you hit both they become vulnerable and when they're fully armored, they can reflect grenades (I don't know if that counted as spoilers or not, i just meant it as a heads up)
    The starting scene where the 2 Spartan IVs implying they had intercourse has riled up alot of fans, I got this from the guy I was talking about, Installation 00 but he basically explained that Spartan IIs have repressed sex drives and are conditioned to follow orders to a tee so no one bats an eye when they are seen as stoic "machines" and don't typically have children to pass their augmentations onto, in-fact there's only 1 spartan II who had a family and she was surveillance even after removing most augmentations. Children of Spartans are given their parent's class followed by a .1 for example children of a Spartan I would be called a Spartan I.1 and long story short ONI would not be happy if there a bunch of Spartan IV.1s walking around unlisted in the UNSC and so forth. Irl it made alot of fans mad because Spartan II are pretty much "synonymous with badass machines" whereas IVs are "just people wielding Mjolnir suits" and "it tarnishes the reputation". He has a lore and theory playlist for any of the joob cast or comment readers
    hope you enjoyed :)

    It makes sense that Thorne would have been detected, even if Glassman disappeared. The scientists wear normal shit, whereas each MJOLNIR unit is equipped w/ all kinds of tracker tech etc (as well as potentially theoretical remote self-destruct mechanism to overload the Fusion Reactor powering it, detonating it & everything within X radius around it), so it makes sense it'd still attempt to send data if possible periodically.

    19:45 - Interesting note, when Jul Mdama says "make those miracles our own", he is in fact referring a special DNA lock that is placed on almost all Forerunner technology. Forerunner tech does NOT function correctly, or at all, unless a human being is detected. The Forerunners CHOSE humans to be the Reclaimers of their technology. Notice whenever a Covenant member ever touches a piece of Forerunner tech, it lights up in "error red" light? That's because they NEED humans to activate the machines. Only a human can set off a Halo or activate the Ark, as well, which is why you see Covenant forcing humans to activate those machines. :)
    As the Prophet of Truth said to Johnson in Halo 3: "....I admit, I need your help. But that secret dies with all the rest."

    admiral serin osman was one of the original spartan 2 who was nearly crippled during the agumentation phase around age 12-13. she ended up on earth and was raised by the chief of naval intelligence, admiral margaret parangosky (who's like 90 something at the time of the halo games). halsey's work on the original spartan 2 program is morally indefensible. they were colony kids abducted, indoctrinated, and experimented on to be sent back to kill their own people . and this was alway part of the mythos.
    which they did for a bit when they were teenagers. that's why they always wore their helmet in the beginning. apparently creating and deploying child super soldiers is classified.
    then the covenant happened. and suddenly halsey goes from a dr. mengele to an einstein figure. palmer may be a bit edgy, but the argument could me made halsey is owed some violence.
    read the fall of reach, ghosts of onyx, and the kilo five trilogy. the trilogy isn't as good in my opinion, but it introduces admiral osman and jul m'dama. also, it features a father who's daughter was stolen from him by halsey trying to get revenge. compelling stuff.

    Spartan Ops always made me very tedious even though it's pretty good it's a shame that in order to enjoy it well you have to play with more people, I'm excited to see you play Halo 5 because it is the one that most leaves the formula of the saga, as always your work is amazing Jade.

    I feel like I should brace you now if you intend to play Halo 5. The story that was started here in Spartan-Ops is 99% not continued in Halo 5. Instead it's continued in the comic series Halo: Escalations. It was intended to be future Spartan-Ops seasons, which would eventually lead to Halo 5, however they got a bit ahead of themselves with such grand plans. Most people thought the gameplay for Spartan-Ops was fairly repetitive and they just couldn't make unique maps and such in the timeframe they needed to. As a result it got pushed into a comic series. Halo 5 only makes one connection with it and that's in the first mission. Beyond that it's done.

    31:14 I like how Halsey insisted to the ONI officer in the Halo 4 prologue that Master Chief was still alive, but she was genuinely shocked to learn he was still alive. The only human to publicly declare her faith that John-117 was still alive, the creator of the SPARTAN-II program, and even *she* truly believed he was dead.
