  • Building a solid concrete retaining wall in this week's episode of Season 2 of Building house in Philippines. The solid concrete retaining wall acts as not only a retaining wall but also a flood prevention barrier and is sure to last for years to come. the retaining wall is a cantilever style wall resting on a 16 inch slab footer with reinforced concrete. The retaining wall will extend 4 feet off footer which will be the height of our backfill on property and will be sitting half meter higher than road and contain another half meter for house.

Maparusahan kayo o malala mapa deport dito sa pinas. Pwede kayong magdesign ng saliri nyong bahay and also before you want to build a firm in the philippines dapat isang kang pilipino at licence architect dito sa pilipinas kasi hahanapin yan ng dti, Sec at prc ng pilipinas. This is Just a reminder na huwag agad mag engage ng kagaya ng practice ng architect dito sa pinas without knowing the law.

Really appreciate a hands-on American with clear details and explanation. I'm a Filipino Architect in the US for almost 4 decades. This Hands-on is an American Technological culture. Even US Presidents Ronald Reagan and Jimmy Carter were Hands-on. So many US TV shows are Hands-on and going down and dirty. Much respect.

It's hard for most viewers to understand how big a undertaking this is for you and your family. I've built two homes here in the Philippines, it's a full time job and then some. It's especially hard when you can't communicate well with your foreman. It's nice you are purchasing power tools and things to help with the job, sometimes they are reluctant to use them as they are comfortable with the old ways. It's amazing how much prices for construction materials have risen in the last few years. A sack of cement was 180 php before, now 230 here on Negros. This material increase also raises labor cost if you pay the crew based off a percentage of the total material cost. I look forward to following your progress. Amping always and God bless you and your family.

Richard.. That concrete is soup.. it should never be that wet. The slump is non-existent.
I know Filipinos like to make it wet cause it is easier to work with but you lose all your concrete strength. The concrete floor you did for your friends looked great. Not to wet, not to dry. Looking forward to your next video.

This is the advantage of the owner having a knowledge in technical Construction, know how to read plans and etc. one thing I notice during pouring of concrete, No concrete spacer for Concrete cover and I hope you also notice that, the concrete have a lot of water which can weaken or reduce the strength of concrete and the nice thing and I always want to see during construction period is the bend of Lateral ties of Column, bend at 135 degrees which is correct, most of the time Construction workers and even technical here in the Philippines omited. All in all you did a Great Job👌👌

I like how Richard gives teaching guidance to the workers rather than just trying to be the big boss person. This helps them feel more ingratiated towards Richard to learn from what he has to share of his knowledge of construction for different landscapes to build better homes. Cheers too for Donna's constant efforts to help Richard's instructions across clearly to the foreman and workers. This is both a mentally and physically draining project, for you both and yet you are both handling this well. I'm glad you took a vacation to relax before setting yourself to this epic task ahead of you. God bless and keep you and your workers all safe during this build project. I hope Richard will know that everyone is cheering for him and the rest of the Armstrong Family as you deal with things that come up ahead of you. I hope too that when the second house comes up for sale that you can get a good profit to help sustain your family so that you have financial breathing room and time to relax a bit before your next move for the future happens. Cheers and best wishes for you all!

Mahilig kasi mga pinoy contractors sa trabahong short-cuts dahil "nagtitipid masyado". Kung ang trabaho kasi ay masyadong by-the-book. this would of course entails additional costs.

Great to watch your next build. Looks like you're doing it all right from my armchair. I was happy to see you thoroughly cleaning the mixer with your power washer when concrete day was ending and everyone was exhausted. 👍
