Absolutely marvellous! Judas Iscariot has been my favorite piece of Rick's music ever since I discovered the album back in 1980. Still not the best album of his (I don't think he'll ever be able to trump Six Wives), but the power - and gentleness - of this piece still goes directly to my heart. Well done! 👏
Have just recently been playing Rick's masterpieces and this has always been one of my favourite pieces. Matthew, to even attempt it, without the grand organ from Vevey, but interlay the Moog, choir and percussion is magnificent and makes it seem warmer. Thank you for sharing.
Great to hear this piece of music again. I used to have this album but don't know what happened to it. It also reminded me of Phantom of the Opera in a couple of places. An excellent rendition.
A huge amount of work must have went into that. Video very professionally edited too. JI is not one of my fav Rick pieces but I can’t help but admire this. Congratulations.
This is EXCELLENT. It brings it all together. I interviewed Rick in 1977. So down to earth. Like talking with your best friend. It was in-between Journey and Arthur and after his heart attack. I don't know of any keyboard player that could match his skills and abilities.
I knew Rick's masterpiece but when rehearing it again after many years, I thought this was the original...:) I think this tells you a lot. Köszönöm/köszönjük ezt a nagyszerű alkotást!
Thanks for this magnificent piece of music! It was a favorite of mine back in the day, when Criminal Record had been released. I used to play it at top volume with the headphones, the ending part being so powerful it would send chills up and down my spine. It was a real pleasure to see your version now and how you showed as many of the instruments as possible while playing them. Your piece was very faithful to the original, it felt as powerful as ever before! Bravo!
Thank you for your kind words Shaun. Indeed, the goosebumps were what did it for me when I first heard it too, the final forte passages are especially wrenching. Being a young and impressionable organ student way back then, it was always going to be something that I'd attempt later in life. Am glad I had to the chance to do it when I could manage all the instruments on my own. And I've since had the great "bucket list" moment of being able to play the same organ in St Martin's, Vevey where Rick recorded this track (and "Parallels" and "Awaken" from Yes's "Going For The One").
Awesome, Perfect! My dream come true thanks to you! I always dream to view a real version about Judas Scariot by Rick Wakeman and you come true! Thank you so much, G’d bless you talent!
No doubt this is a masterpiece that for the time, each musical part in each of the keyboards is a true symphony. Thank you for uploading this piece, I was fortunate to see Master Rick Wakeman a few days ago at his symphonic concert and the first thing I did was to look for this piece ... Thank you very much!
Wow!!!!! This is such an impressive presentation, especially since you covered all of the parts. I grew up hearing my father play this piece over and over again and it has become one of my favorite pieces from my childhood. As a classically trained pianist, I have always appreciated Wakeman's talent. You spent a LOT of time bringing life back to this piece. One of my favorite sections takes place at 7:04. Again, nice work!
Impressive cover, well done. That choir patch is excellent, and really sounds like the original. I wonder if you're interested in covering all the keyboard parts in 'Awaken' sometime? I imagine the same choir was employed for both Judas and Awaken (surely it would save time and money). And of course the Vevey organ was the same.
Awaken is without doubt one of the best pieces of music ever written. I can play all the keyboard parts, but there's no way I could cover the guitar, bass, drums, and vocal parts. If there was a chance of a collaboration with the right musicians, I'd leap at it!
I remember going to the record store and guy working that day 'rick wakeman has a new record out, but you probably won't like it because it a lot piano on it.' It's one My favorite record by Mr Wakeman.
Another scorcher! As you say; far better to have a lovely live piece like this than some over-produced sanitised cover! Damn fine playing, sir! From one who has been to see him and even met him the other year, after helping crowd fund his latest venture, it is a heart-felt soulful rendition. Some excellent video and editing, too! Thank you!
What a lovely comment, thank you. Being on the wrong side of the globe, I've only had the opportunity to meet Rick twice, and it was brief both times. Thank you for supporting his latest work (I presume you refer to The Red Planet? When I first heard "Ascreaus Mons" I thought 'Yes I think there could be another cover here!')
@@Synthnerd11 Nice of you to reply. Thanks again. I know that it is less challenging, but would love to hear you cover Montezuma's Revenge! 🤔 Lots to get your head around there!!!! But I understand if you wish to work on his latest stuff. As a professional musician, I really do appreciate the amount of work you put in for that piece. Thanks again...... Oh...... I shall just listen to you again! 🙄
I congratulate you. It's powerful and amazing. This music not only exist today: couldn't even exist. And I very thank to you to know which religious hymn Rick uses in this song (The Horsely Hymn). I always knew was traditional -in "Babe the Pig" some rats sing this hymn in the end of the movie-. But never know the name: and in my country the majority is catholic; we don't use hymns so antic.
Nice job, thoroughly enjoyed it. Can you tell us more about your digital practice organ and the other instruments used? How many octaves on those pedals?
Thanks for your kind words. The organ was originally a Gem Studium, a 2-manual digital organ manufactured in the mid-1980s. The pedalboard was made to standard AGO specifications and is therefore two and a half octaves. When I acquired it (late 2015), it was only functional for a few months before the CPU succumbed to acid leakage from the battery. Thanks to a friend with exceptional skills for anything to do with electronic music gear, he was able to repurpose the original manuals, add a third manual from his own huge collection of equipment, and between us we converted it to a large MIDI controller. It now drives the Grand Orgue software on a PC. The Launchpad is used to select stops, and I control stop combinations from a Behringer FCB 1010 which also gives me the swell pedals for Recit and Pos divisions. A slightly more detailed video about this is here: th-cam.com/video/FkSZE_qIeo4/w-d-xo.html The Minimoog belongs to aforementioned brainy friend (which I presently hold hostage until he repairs my VCS 3 synth :) ). All the other instruments that I played here were at the school where I work.
Anyone who can successfully create a cover of one of Rick Wakeman's pieces is very talented and hard working. This is so amazing.
Oh my goodness....! this has to be the best cover of Judas i have ever heard, such talent a real pleasure to here. Thank you.
I love that someone loves this music so much to cover it. Rick Wakeman in my pantheon and this album in my desert island discs.
Absolutely marvellous! Judas Iscariot has been my favorite piece of Rick's music ever since I discovered the album back in 1980. One of my favourite Rick tracks ever. Love that album. What a wonderful and true reflection of that masterpiece. Very well done indeed.
mine too! very phantom of the opera!
I listened along, note by note as if it were the original..... amazing rendition. Amazing talent. Well done! Rick would indeed be proud!
Great job, the best Wakeman cover I've ever seen. Congratulations!!!!
Such kind, generous comments. Thank you all. But the real thanks goes to Rick for the inspiration in the first place.
This piece is from my favourite album of Rick.
I always believed I was the only one who liked this album. Nobody liked it at that time.
I liked it very much!

Proud to say it's one of my treasured albums on vinyl. :-)

Bravo!!! My favourite Rick' album! Favourite track! Thanks a lot

An excellent rendition.
Matthew this is incredible! Thanks for sharing with us.
Well ; I hope you're proud of yourself ... You made a grown man cry . ( Tears of joy , of course ) Thank you
Grazie, la tua cover ci fa immergere nel suo mondo.
I cry .......magnific ...
Thanks to you I now realize how complex is this composition. When I listen to Wakeman's version everything flows so easy that it looks easy.
Superb. You did Rick's masterpiece proud
That is freakin sicko. Bravo to you for this playing and production.
Its got that legendary Wakeman power . Nice .
Omg i never thought anyone could pull this off! Very well done sir!😲
Brilliantly done.
Simply FANTASTIC!!! I love this cut. others have stolen from its, but Rick is the one who created it. Well done.
You hit the nail - on the head!! Incredible!! Well done!! And what an experience watching each part being played!! Thx!! Sir Matthew!
Thank you for your kind words. And I wouldn't have gone to that trouble without letting people see how it was done :) Very much a labour of love.
One word.... BEAUTIFUL!
Rick would have been so proud of this rendtion sir!
He's still alive!
A huge amount of work must have went into that. Video very professionally edited too. JI is not one of my fav Rick pieces but I can’t help but admire this. Congratulations.
I just have to say: WOW. My jaw was on my feet during the entire video!!! SUPERB! As an all-time fan of Rick: YOU DID IT!

That is a tremendous work of art.

Love that song. Church organ and Minimoog is amazing mix. i'm with you for "organic" music vs machine precision.
Os caras mandaram muito bem!
fantastic, thank you.
Hauptwerk :-)
Actually it's Grand Orgue, but close enough :) :)
Sublime
Sublime
Superb!
Mind boggling!!
Ya can't fool me ...show ya face wakeman
A-am-zing!
master of the MOOG!
Bravo
Organ music has been my favorit all times like Deep Purple and my favorite pianoplayer is Victor Borge, A great comedian.
sounds almost like it could be an 80's horror flick about one badass bride lol
