I was very lucky to have a 856S UTC as my gateway Sinn, and 5 more Sinn's later this is still my fav for simplicity, legibility, versatility, functions, size and robustness. Pretty much everything a GADA watch should be.
I do love my Sinn's though I'm down to a 556a and a U1. I really think that the only reason the 556 doesn't have a tegiment option is that the 836/856 wouldn't sell enough units to make it worth manufacturing. I'm also a huge Laco fan. The Germans do it differently to everyone else, and in a fantastic way 😍
EDR actually stands for “Extremely Diffusion Reducing’, not “Explosive Decompression Resistant”, which makes some sense in the context of gas / humidity exchange / intrusion into the case, which the AR system is meant to reduce as much as possible. They use Viton gaskets, which are green instead of the usual black nitril gaskets. I have a 856 and a 857UTC in my collection, love these watches! Thank you for the video.
@@ClickSpringReviewyes, I think they just always use them in all of their models. I just replaced the old back seal of my 144 with one they sold me as replacement directly in Sossenheim, and they both were green too ;-) cheers
We had a 556 come in a few months a go and that had green one to, I'm going to service my old (2007) 103 soon be interesting to see what is in the back of that one
The Sinn 756 and 856 watches are my absolutely favorite watches! They are Sinn's answer to Rolex's Explorer. However, the Sinn 856 is marketed as a pilot's watch. I think Sinn would be much more successful with this tech-jammed modest three-hander if they advertised it as what it is: a field watch and a watch for explorers. Thank you for your great review! Regards, Burk
Hi Barry, I like these a lot. I'd probably go for the UTC version but I think that either watch is a winner. Talking about that, what with the Laco AND the Sinn in play you're (metaphorically) on fire matey! No doubt the Laco is in the queue for a review... Have a good weekend, LG Bob 🍾 🥂
@@ClickSpringReviewSo there's a lot to look forward to! I'm really happy that someone is showing us these fantastic brands. Have you managed to get to Watchtime this year? Have a good week, LG Bob
Yes I was there and really enjoyed it, I can't say much but I meet up with a big brand who want to do a video featuring believable it or not but me 😱 this is a good few mouths of yet so should be interesting
@@ClickSpringReview Your reputation is clearly spreading. Enjoy the recognition, you deserve it. I'll probably get the low-down on Watchtime from Axel (Watchmaxe) who'll post several videos of his visit. I hope to get there next year...
Great video mate, I've got this in the brushed finish, not sure how many were made but I saw it listed once and had to get it. Kinda tempted to get a bead blasted one at some point, both have their charms.
@@ClickSpringReview Mine has arabic numerals, same dial as yours. I've only seen one other online so far, the blue dial version is more common seemingly.
@@ClickSpringReview Oh don't worry I won't be doing anything to it! Might just pick up another at some point, would love to see them bring back the 656 at some point!
I sold mine after never being able to get it to keep time properly. Was sent back to Sinn twice and when it eventually ran halfway consistently a Sinn service centre refused to regulate it. I sold it after that despite it being my perfect dream watch. So much for "Sinn always do a great job of regulating their watches", they don't and nor do their service centres.
The main issue I have with Sinn watches at the moment is that Seiko has recently released the Marinemaster SLA077 and SLA079….might wait till the January sales and see what discounts are around 😂 apart from that, these are better than the 556- although that one has a nicely scalloped back that the case back sits flush with which would be a nice finishing touch on the 856! Great size though and on that rubber strap looks great 👍 pretty much this, any of their chronos & a U1 and your collection is done! Nothing else needed 😊
Im really enjoying my new to me 656 at the min, ps I've a comparison of the 856 and 556 coming soon which I think you may like. The new MM300 I just wish they could upgrade the dated 8L movement as the date jump still takes one hour for the date to jump . Unfortunately Ive had two MM300 and they always felt top heavy but I still like them
Because it has a soft iron insert underneath the case back the movement as I remember is the SW300 I really like it and can be found in watches up to about £3.5K
@ClickSpringReview yeh there's a reddit post of a guy that got Sinn to customise his 856 with a red seconds hand and then a short time later they came out with it as a model. They must have liked it.
Watch buys in the US is stocking this with a red seconds hand which I think will sell well. I’m debating between the 556A and this 856. Pros and cons to both as to be expected. I think the 856 case cannot be polished.
856 is tegimented so can't polish but will stand up to beating and scratching a lot better. Also better water resistivity/anti magnetism. 556 is a nice watch but 856 has all of unique Sinn tech (minus Hydro and Diapal) in a discreet body.
Anyone can tell if it's recommended to have this watch serviced by any watchmaker? IE will the watch continue working normally even without the special gas inside?
The movement in the older ones is an ETA 2892 and newer ones an SW300-1 I've serviced money of these and can honestly say it will work perfectly without the gas inside Sir
@@ClickSpringReview Great! Appreciate the fast reply. Also, is it possible to confirm the model indeed uses a top grade movement inside prior to purchasing it? Didnt see any mentions of this on the official Sinn website. Been really eyeing on the black 856 with a black bracelet. Such a cool watch.
They normally are and thats one of the reasons why they always do so well on the timegrapher , I've not reviewed a Sinn which is over +5s a day and I've a 150 Sinn videos on the channel
My only wish is that Sinn would release a Type A flieger dial for the 856. They did two versions in the past, both 50 units each for the Japanese market. If they did one for the U.S. market, I’d buy it in a heartbeat. P.S. - Barry, have you seen the Steel Reef adjustment link for H-Link bracelets? I’d love to see you get one in for review. That could be a game changer for a lot of folks.

Hi Sir good question the SW200 (ETA2824) has 38 hours of power and is solid it's only downside is it doesn't like to be over hand wound, the SW300 (ETA2892) is a step up it has 56 hours of power and a super smooth hand winding and is a slimmer movement but both models have the same accuracy, Maybe at a later date I'll get the two movements together and show this mire in detail ps the SW300 costs over double the price of the 200 model
@ClickSpringReview In Australia, the Sinn 556 is $1895 AUD or $1723 AUD for international buyers. The 856 is $3100 AUD or $2818 AUD for international buyers. The reason for the higher price in Australia is GST = VAT. There is a $1200AUD difference between the 556 and the 856, and after watching your video, I fully understand the difference between the two.
What facts are you using to call bullshit? And, this uses the SW300-1 which is a more refined caliber than the basic SW-200. Your opinion is your right, but I don't actually expect any facts to back it up.
I bought a 856 one month ago and I must say I’m a bit disappointed - the watch is 9 seconds fast per day. I’ve been in contact with Sinn support and they said that if it doesn’t improve after 8 weeks I can send it to them for regulation. They said that they can regulate it to +/- 4 seconds per day. If so, why not do that from the beginning? I mean it’s a new watch. After 4 weeks it’s still 9 seconds fast. This is not what I expected of such an expensive watch and after all the reviews praising its accuracy. My $250 Seiko 5 is more accurate.

I agree with this! This would be my grail if it was smaller to suit my dainty little wrists. Bring on a regimented 556!
Im going to review my 656 when the bracelet turns up for it and that is basic the father to the 556 and is fully tegiment and I also agree with-you
That would be the 656 which is a 556 fully Tegiment Adam
Then we should start a petition for them to release the 656 again 😉
