- This small historical town of Vincennes Indiana is the perfect day trip destination. The home town of Red Skelton a comedian that preformed here in the Pantheon theater. This is my walk around downtown observing what ever I think is interesting. They even have a record store.

I was born and raised in Vincennes. Spent a lot of time on that Main Street. It's sad to see so much closed down. Thanks for the memories.

I’m from there. Saturday afternoons all the businesses are pretty much closed. During the week, it is very hard to find parking. The old Chicago pizza and tap room is a great place to eat.

How on earth did I miss this video!? Vincennes was a very cool little city to explore. With all those older facades, it's truly a great example of Americana. Glad you took a walk around the main street areas. I did find it interesting how everything does seem to close up a one time like that. Very cool place!

I never realized Vincennes had a historic downtown or that Red Skelton was from there! I like that the old places like the theatre are reused instead of sitting derelict. Love an old fashioned diner, too. Shame everything was closed. Very interesting, thanks for sharing!

Red Skelton was funny. Great looking town . Nice old theatre there…glad they kept the look of it. We had a few great small theatres here in my city and sadly no more. Pretty nice place to explore. I really enjoyed it. 👍😊🇨🇦

Yes, "we're some of you!" Remember Red Skelton well, Brian. Vincennes looks like a charming old town and the flag pole plays a lovely tune! Shame that the only place open was the Record Cellar, playing copyrighted music. We usually find the diners open in the morning though lunch and then many close early in the afternoon. 🤔🤔 What's a tourist to do if they arrive late! Love to see the military museum in the future. Thanks for bringing us along.

That is the most peacefully quiet and clean downtown area Ive ever seen in Mmmerica. There's a lot of record stores still around. Record labels still make vinyl and record player are also still being sold...lol I wonder what they growing in the bike. I like all those low rider bicycles.

Left Vincennes in 2021 to join the army and live in Hawaii. This helps with homesickness, wish it was me walking downtown. Also, it's Old Thyme Diner, not chrome, but that sign is hard to read lol. Really great breakfast place

You'd be surprised how many record stores that are popping up now in the past year my city went from none to 4 in 5 years I see younger people buying them to .
They seem to be getting more popular. People say they sound better 🤪 maybe they got better record players then me 😂
The downtown area of Vincennes is gorgeous and almost looks like a historic snapshot of the late 19th, early 20th century era with its stunning and well preserved period buildings and architecture😍. I kinda like the empty streets that give the town a nostalgic feel about it👍. Great walkaround video Brian. Have a great weekend!

I’m from Vincennes. The downtown is actually a very busy area. Everything closes early on Saturdays. Go anytime during the week and you won’t be able to find parking.

I really enjoy when the small towns that all got boarded up by Walmart have now started to come back in some really cool ways! I especially like the really old structures, the old interiors and so on. We need more of this in small town America! Thanks for sharing this with us all!

Love these old school downtowns. I bet the guy who makes all these statues is making a killing since every small town has these statues. Yea small towns usually close pretty early. Thanks for the tour.

All trips get a couple hours added to them for exploration. On another note, we hired a guy named Terry Lee Ridley who lives in that town to do his piano rock and roll act st our car show this year.

I guess his museum was closed to ? There is or was a really cool museum in town on his life. I saw him live in Pasadena, California. There is a lot of Revolutionary history in that town to.

Vincennes has had a steady decline in population since the 60’s early 70’s. Moore and Miller drug store is from the early 1800’s. Many of the buildings have been burned or tore down. We had trolley cars until the 20’s. That is how Red would sneak a ride downtown from the North End. City bus service until the 50’s. Many taxi companies still in the 60’s. You were one block away from where the original Gimbals and also Macy’s original buildings were. I believe that fire was in 11’. I filmed it. George Rogers Clark NHP was also a little further up. Vincennes is no longer the largest city in Indiana but it will always be the oldest. The Chicago pizza was a very large movie theater. You’re right. The tile sidewalk building was a very large drug store named Duesterbergs.

First of all, it’s pronounced pan-theeeeeee-on. It was where the national bank was… That was the theater… And it’s absolutely beautiful in the back probably before they stuck that bank in there… They were going to make it a theater again. And then Chicago pizza is just a pizza place called Chicago pizza. That used to be showplace movie theater when I was in junior high and high school.
You’ll notice catty corner there is a dairy queen over there… We used to go to the movies… Then go to the dairy queen… Then every day after school we would go to record cellar, and listen to records and buy new CDs… Just so you know, help you out a little bit! 😉

There is a lot of history in Vincennes . Vincennes was also territorial capital at one time to. And William Henry Harrison was I believe was the governor for the territory.

Sorry for you, Brian. You missed the essence of Vincennes. Red Skelton was a modern character and not the city's highlight. Research the history of the French, English, Dutch and Native Americans. Learn about George Rogers Clark and Francis Vigo. So many historical highlights, so little time. There is so MUCH more that you missed just on Main Street in the short distance you walked. I could go on, but it looks like you were more interested in a bicycle than this amazing city.
