I noticed something about rdr2 settlements. The further from the middle of the map the settlement is, the sadder it is. In the top left, we have colter, which is abandoned. In the top right, we have annesburg, a polluted company town with miserable citizens. In the bottom left, we have tumbleweed, a dying western town with barely any people left. Then you get to the middle of the map and you have valentine, strawberry, and blackwater (kinda), all healthy settlements on the rise.
If RDR1 ever gets a remaster they better include the rdr2 map, it may make the map a bit bigger but it’d be nice to see old characters graves like Sean, Lenny, or even Arthur. Also let’s hope that Valentine and strawberry are still thriving as Annesburg in 1911 is probably shut down due to the death of Cornwall, and Saint Denis is probably way more modernized now and I’d doubt Chief Lambert ever died in the time span of RDR2’s epilogue and RDR1 which is 4 years apart, also let’s hope Malloy is still alive since there wasn’t many crimes you COULD find in valentine besides that guy drowning his wife in the drinking things near the stables near the sheep pens and the killer prostitute, so he’s either alive or died of old age which he doesn’t look THAT old so I’m sure he’d be alive, and strawberry’s new sheriff is probably still alive as well since there’s basically no crime in strawberry tbh so he’s fine.

As for people hating the epilogue, it seems the majority of the players who disliked it were the same people that didn’t play 1 first. Arthur was such a complex and likable character and that they made John mostly an incompetent member of the gang (being in prison and stranded in the beginning) I felt made people them not like John. Manzanita post got absolutely downgraded in RDR2, I never played much of RDR1 (my original PS3 copy had a game-breaking glitch) but I did play RDR: Undead Nightmare and I remember going into the main building and fighting off hordes of zombies with the folk who lived there. All the buildings were explorable, and the whole area in general was very cozy and cool. The people there even let me take anything from the trading post as a gift for helping them, so they made for good companions to speak with. In RDR2, you get a single mission where you pass by them in the Epilogue, and no interiors are used, there's nothing to do, the most interesting part is talking to the people that live there and hearing their unique voice lines since they don't speak much English. Btw just wanted to say I found your channel today, I've been watching lots of your rankings and they are very interesting. 100% subscribed!
I love pronghorn ranch because it’s very close to black bone forest which is so underatted for how useful it is. Several of the master hunter challenges can be completed there alone and the trapper with lake owanjila right next to it is just perfection
Lagras may not be that expansive but it’s a great fast travel location and I love the npcs there the most. It’s lowkey the friendliest place where you can hunt gators and fish for days.
This video was a great trip down memory lane, thanks! With the intent to offer constructice criticism on your commentary and fully acknowledging that this ranking has no claim of being exceptionally critical of the source material, I'd like to ask you what constitutes the "Western" or "Wild Western" feel for you. I mean, your video provides many clues for your perspective on these phrases, but I would like to push back on using such a language, hence my question. It's akin to saying "the Turkish feel, the moustache and the lokum and Istanbul and the darbuka drum" (I'm Turkish btw), and with this example I have in my mind Edward Said's 1978 work "Orientalism" in mind, which simply states that the "Orient" is a caricaturization (not maliciously in every instance mind you, it's simply the way in which Western Europeans categorized the "exotic" Orient and in saying this I have no intention of being condescending or coming across as a pompous ass) of the messy actuality of the totality of the Orient. Since both the "Western" and "non-Western" (using the terms in their colloquial sense) existed concurrently, I believe that the distinction is not only unwarranted in such a ranking when considering one of this game's main objectives (providing an open-world sandbox of the "civilizing", not yet "civilized" world, or "America" at that specific time), but it also lessens the significance of the totality of representation that each place fulfills in game. Lagras showcases the "savages" of the land, Tall Trees or Roanoke Ridge showcases the actual savages; Saint Denis the joys and disparities of civilization, Annesburg its horrors; Armadillo, Valentine, and Blackwater signifying the state of non-industrialized settlements, etc. I think the repeated use of the phrases "Western" and "Wild-Western" in your assessment of these towns does somewhat of a disservice to each settlement individually and to the entire game collectively. This is not to say that my critique invalidates your opinions and your way of commentary, and I have no delusion of sort of editing a video aspiring to have academic qualities. It may very well have to do with being a recent graduate from a social sciences discipline, so feel free to chalk it up to occupational hazard, I sure do. Anyway, my only wish was to provide some constructive feedback and introduce a couple of ideas that may interest you in discussing this topic. None of my comments take away from the entertainment value of your video, and I surely shall check your channel for other videos that may pique my interest. Take care!
My favorite is strawberry. If I was in that time period put me there. You are in riding distance of amazing hunting areas as well as fishing. It’s a trappers paradise as well as the town looking nice. Game wise I like annesburg. I’m from the south so it reminds me a lot of Tennessee and the Smokey mountains, somewhere I’ve been and relate to. I spend a lot of time just exploring it because it’s scenery I’ve experienced irl
personally, even with the context of the story and the inhabitants i love wapiti and the character and location of it. for me its a great to be emersed but i understand why you put it there. anyhoo good video
This isn't a wild west game, its a game about the last dying breathes of it and the turn of the century. I get the preference for that vibe though 100%! Great vid man!
I get why he wants that, because there... really aren't many wild west games either, and definitely none with rockstar's care, except red dead. But I love rdr's intersection of the old and the new, and saint denis is my favourite city for that reason. I'd love to see something set earlier though
Van Horn?!?!?!? Bro you are crazy 😂😂😂 I go to Van Horn for target practice cause if I stand around for too long someone wants to start a fight. But I agree with number 1 for sure
Rhodes is my favorite town and I know how controversial this may be but shady belle is my favorite camp (my arthur free roam save file I actually stopped in shady belle so I could be at the camp and have all the guns of chapter 4 like m1899s and semi autos and shit)
what do you think of rathskeller fork? that would have to be my favorite place that's not an actual town. i love how the buildings look straight out of nuevo paraiso. they even have a wall over the town like mexico does. i wish the saloon was open in rdr2. and maybe even some more missions and side stuff to do.
Rhodes feels like home,it is my 3rd favorite town behind Blackwater and Saint Denis. Rhodes just captures Georgia especially north Georgia I live in north Georgia and I see similarities between Rhodes and Georgia small towns I think it’s like Ringgold ga (if you don’t know what Ringgold is ,it’s the town where the locomotive chase stopped at and where Dolly Parton got married) I’m from Catoosa County and Rhodes captures the south perfectly ,and the Annesburg -van horn area looks like Tennessee so much it’s uncanny.
I thought it was strange that a bunch of Scandinavians live in Manzanita in the game, which is Spanish for "Little Apple". One would think there'd be a lot of Mexicans in that town.
Dead last- Armadillo. Literally nobody to shoot 8- Strawberry. Generic n boring. Micah’s mission was fun tho 7- Annesburg. Again, just nothing special, combined with a bunch of guards helping maybe? 6- Rhodes. Similar issue, however the red clay dust in the air could create a cool vibe maybe? 5- Blackwater. Lots of spots to climb(as he mentioned) and plenty of alleyways to wreak havoc upon the town with. 4-Valentine. Nothing too special about the law, just some pretty skilled lawmen. It just happens to be an amazing town to shoot up, given the western look. 3- Saint Denis. The massive foreboding lawforce provides a unique challenge. Alleyways, balconies, and roofs are great to shoot from. Not to mention that the lawmen suck ass in Saint Denis. They just walk right towards you in a shootout. Easy pickings. 2- Tumbleweed. Duh, pinnacle of the west. Plus, Freeman serves as the ultimate boss you have to take down, given that he’s an instant one-shot. Really cool 1- To nobody’s surprise, it’s Van Horn. Lawless, full of random buildings to take cover in, and full of endless cannon fodder for your ultimate pleasure.
@@M1N1molo nobody to shoot? armadillo literally has no law, so you can shoot everyone in the town without getting a wanted level. for me its the complete opposite and i spend most of my time there terrorizing everyone.
Wapiti is really pretty at night, the warm glow from the lights in the tent and they smoke escaping from the top, easily one of the prettiest things to see in the game. It’s a shame I only realised this when I decided to play through the game with no hud.
Ah yes Tumbleweed as an outlaw this is my ideal hideout a place where I work as a bounty hunter for the local law and keep my head low. Of course I got high bounties in all other states but if it gets too much I run back and stock up again in Tumbleweed
I've been to lagras in red dead online. All I've been doing is roping people of their horses, hogtying them, then throwing them in the water for the crocs. It was pretty fun.
Braithwaith Manor is an amazing place. one of my favorite places to visit it makes me actually sad that this game doesn't allow you to purchase properties because Braithwaith Manor would be such a damn cool place to own. even the place where the workers of the property live is a nice place, directly having a view of the giant river. and the giant barn in the back of the property is very nice. too bad the manor gets destroyed by fire when Arthur and the gang go to rescue Jack from the location. the interior is very damn nice place, especially the bedrooms in the upper level.
Jätte bra video. Do you understand any swedish? As a Norwegian I was really excited when I discovered that they actually speaks Norwegian at Manzanita Post. The actors are Norwegian too. It’s impossible to speak like that without being from Norway
Maybe one of the top of my strange opinions, but I don´t like Valentine. It´s something on livestock towns that bothers me - nice facade around and a shit on boots... I really like Strawberry, it is similar to strange-shaped uphill settlement from McCabe and Mrs. Miller (so it´s even prettier under snow). But it really need saloon (where Micah got into troubles). Also there shoud be general store in Annesburg, sorry, not "general" - a company store! Missed oportunity. I have soft spot on Roanoke region and Annesburg for the same reason you like Rhodes - reminds me home.
I personally wouldn't classify this as a "wild west" game. Idk what I would classify it as, but Wild West really doesn't come to mind. Especially since most of the game is set in the east and deep south.
@@filmsbyhen I forget the name of the movie, but I think Brad Pitt is in it? It's about the murder of some famous cowboy by his "friend". The song I'm talking about is slow and has mostly piano and violins.
@@salchipapa5843 the assassination of Jesse James by the coward Robert ford! That film is a masterpiece and I personally think the greatest western of the 21st century. I have a video on the channel where I talk about it. The track is “song for Bob”
Controversial take:I hate Saint Denis, the place sometimes glitches/spawns mounted people in front of you crashing into them, it’s a wanted signal waiting to happen with the street brats, people robbing you, and the Lemoyne raiders, only GOOD thing about that place is that it has EVERY single shop in it. Other than that I agree with most of your rankings, and yeah I wish armadillo was better than it is in RDR2 since it’d be a great place to duel people.
@@ArthurMorganismywifeyeah also who even goes to the photographers store in Saint Denis, I’m sure most people forgot there is a photography store in Saint Denis which makes it probably one of the most unused stores the game has in RDR2.
Number 1 would be the showdown with Micah and Arthur. He was tactically placed so Micah had to take him out, confirming Archibald is a better gunslinger than Arthur.
the one thing very annoying about RDR2 is how the Trapper in the game is located in some of the most random and far away locations of the map possible, completely removed from any civilization. and some of the locations are even extremely dangerous, close to enemy territory of savages like the Murfrees in Roanoke Ridge or the Skinner Brothers in Tall Trees. or how the Trapper in Big Valley is up on the damn mountain hill, at the edge of the game map. Rockstar really made the Trapper location strange. the Trapper in let's say Tall Trees region of the Skinner Brothers could have just had his shop in Manzanita Post. that would have been perfect. plus, I believe Manzanita Post is a fast travel location and would have been perfect to immediately fast travel there and sell the hides you collected from hunting animals. just a rant of mine. some settlements in the game seriously lack businesses to trade and make shop indeed. even the train could have had some more fast travel points to immediately go to. for example visiting the far northern side of Roanoke Ridge could have benefited from having a functional train station when visiting that Nikola Tesla professor at his lab/electrical tower. the small abandoned shack there right next to the train line is actually interactable. you can sleep inside the shack. I use that place whenever I want to change the time to night because I would hunt down cougars for the pelts to complete the hunter/survival challenges.
I deleted rdr2 a while ago because i got bored of the game. I already played the story about 5 times, but this video made me want to install it again idk why

Now we need an outfit for every settlement
Babe wake up. Henry Films just dropped a banger!!
This is my first video from you, loved your energy describing all the towns 👍🏼 great work
I love pronghorn ranch because it’s very close to black bone forest which is so underatted for how useful it is. Several of the master hunter challenges can be completed there alone and the trapper with lake owanjila right next to it is just perfection
16:57 what a great quote
It gives off the same energy as “Your not just anyone’s retard your my retard”
Lagras may not be that expansive but it’s a great fast travel location and I love the npcs there the most. It’s lowkey the friendliest place where you can hunt gators and fish for days.
I love the distinct accents that people from Lagras have. It’s a really nice detail that adds a lot of much needed flavor it.
I'd love to see something set earlier though
absolutely banger of a video, you should definitely design outfits for each settlement
Django! Soundtrack works P-E-R-F-E-C-T-L-Y with this game
Who the FUCK is kicking at my door af 2 am?
Van Horn?!?!?!? Bro you are crazy 😂😂😂 I go to Van Horn for target practice cause if I stand around for too long someone wants to start a fight. But I agree with number 1 for sure
Don't forget the giant fucking pentagram underneath ome of the houses at butcher's creek
Why is Henry films so good at doing accents? Such a random piece of lore.
absolutely love the django theme song, glad to see others appreciate old school spaghetti westerns as much as i do lol
15:17 I smell a Arkham ranking of some sort soon
Emerald Ranch with the saloon working would be perfect, I would always stay there.
Heey another Scandinavian brother! I’m a full blood Scandinavian!
Yoo scandinavian brother 👊
I thought it was strange that a bunch of Scandinavians live in Manzanita in the game, which is Spanish for "Little Apple". One would think there'd be a lot of Mexicans in that town.
Can you rank towns to get in shootouts in?
Great suggestion 💯💯💯💯
Maybe like all the CTA maps on online
Van horn is always going to be no.1
Dead last- Armadillo. Literally nobody to shoot
8- Strawberry. Generic n boring. Micah’s mission was fun tho
7- Annesburg.
Really cool
1- To nobody’s surprise, it’s Van Horn.
Tens Towns damn what is this, Icewind Dale
Ah yes Tumbleweed as an outlaw this is my ideal hideout a place where I work as a bounty hunter for the local law and keep my head low. Of course I got high bounties in all other states but if it gets too much I run back and stock up again in Tumbleweed
Gotta a love a good Henry films video
I've been to lagras in red dead online. All I've been doing is roping people of their horses, hogtying them, then throwing them in the water for the crocs. It was pretty fun.
Braithwaith Manor is an amazing place. one of my favorite places to visit
it makes me actually sad that this game doesn't allow you to purchase properties because Braithwaith Manor would be such a damn cool place to own.
even the place where the workers of the property live is a nice place, directly having a view of the giant river.
and the giant barn in the back of the property is very nice.
too bad the manor gets destroyed by fire when Arthur and the gang go to rescue Jack from the location. the interior is very damn nice place, especially the bedrooms in the upper level.
My coat in that scene at Annesburg. Wearing it all the time...
As someone who lives in Georgia, 5:15 made me laugh my ass off
Jätte bra video. Do you understand any swedish? As a Norwegian I was really excited when I discovered that they actually speaks Norwegian at Manzanita Post. The actors are Norwegian too. It’s impossible to speak like that without being from Norway
You should rank rdr1 settlements next
One of my favorites is Thieves Landing! I literally learned how to play poker there lol
I watched your town one and saloon now I’m watching this same day it came out
If you go to Wapiti after helping Raining Falls, they treat you better.
Oil field above armadillo is crazy
Not at all
New HenryFilms video let's goooooo
Love your videos ! I also love Van Horne and vikings too lol lots of love from Newfoundland and Labrador! Thank you for sharing ! 💖💖💖
I think I'd probably pick Saint Denis as my favorite, every time I go there's always some crazy shit going on and it's a real hoot
Great video 👍🤠. Maybe next you can rate the places you can actually sleep in. I personally love the one in Roanoake Ridge.
Love the Django music
24:54 John reminds me of Seth Bullock here
I love Van Horn too. Probably my favorite!
Bruh I stay robbing Gaptooth Breach every few days post epilogue. It’s literally passive income lol
I’m gonna have to edge for 35 minutes.
Love it. I don’t know what’s funny in « Tumbleweed » though, like it’s just a plant’s name 😊😅
Butcher creek is kinda cool in its own right but rockstar could have done so much more with this small Appalachian town
Good to see dear Henry back
You could do a ranking of all the progression challenges. Either all 90 or the 9 different types of challenges
I personally wouldn't classify this as a "wild west" game. Idk what I would classify it as, but Wild West really doesn't come to mind. Especially since most of the game is set in the east and deep south.
It’s more of western, Deep South and mid west
If the story of the wild West was a trilogy, rdr2 is kinda the beginning of the final book
Love the background music you chose, especially the one in the middle from the movie I don't remember.
Which one?
@@filmsbyhen I forget the name of the movie, but I think Brad Pitt is in it? It's about the murder of some famous cowboy by his "friend". The song I'm talking about is slow and has mostly piano and violins.
@@filmsbyhen I figured out how to Google it. It's Song for Bob, from the movie The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford".
@@salchipapa5843 the assassination of Jesse James by the coward Robert ford! That film is a masterpiece and I personally think the greatest western of the 21st century. I have a video on the channel where I talk about it. The track is “song for Bob”
@@filmsbyhen yup! That's precisely it. I don't remember much of the movie, but I love the soundtrack.
Ngl I been waiting fr a video like this for a while
Controversial take:I hate Saint Denis, the place sometimes glitches/spawns mounted people in front of you crashing into them, it’s a wanted signal waiting to happen with the street brats, people robbing you, and the Lemoyne raiders, only GOOD thing about that place is that it has EVERY single shop in it.
Other than that I agree with most of your rankings, and yeah I wish armadillo was better than it is in RDR2 since it’d be a great place to duel people.
i think its to big it has just as much as valentine does
@@ArthurMorganismywifeyeah also who even goes to the photographers store in Saint Denis, I’m sure most people forgot there is a photography store in Saint Denis which makes it probably one of the most unused stores the game has in RDR2.
I wish Van Horn was on the western side of the map just because of how well it fits with the overall outlaw attitude.
should’ve been an ambarino town, same as annesburg
Now do a video ranking top 10 Archibald Macgregor moments
Number 1 would be the showdown with Micah and Arthur. He was tactically placed so Micah had to take him out, confirming Archibald is a better gunslinger than Arthur.
In the next red dead they could do something like in killers of the flower moon where the natives struck oil or gold and became rich and assimilated.
Ranking all bounties
Wow the cobbled streets look clean in Blackwater! Lagras means the fat basically so I wonder why it's named that 😂
“Okay Kurt Cobain”
Sweden mentioned???, MY VIKING BROTHER🛡️🛡️🔥🔥🔥
It’s definitely been a minute
Howdy cowpokes 🤠
the one thing very annoying about RDR2 is how the Trapper in the game is located in some of the most random and far away locations of the map possible, completely removed from any civilization. and some of the locations are even extremely dangerous, close to enemy territory of savages like the Murfrees in Roanoke Ridge or the Skinner Brothers in Tall Trees.
or how the Trapper in Big Valley is up on the damn mountain hill, at the edge of the game map.
I’m fully Swedish actually. Do you by chance speak any Swedish or is it just like your sixth cousin that lives there?
What if a hurricane destroyed saint denis in 1900
“Sheriff. Drugs. That’s perfect.” 🤣
For me colter armadillo Valentine and blackwater are the most western i guess thats my favorite cities
Manzanita post has the mistery about is tho
What's your opinion on Cherry Pepsi?
I fended off a hostile posse at braithwaite manor in rdo
Soooo, when will you rate every homestead?
Fuckin finally, been waiting for this one!!
Where’s Tahiti and Timbuktu?
Just avoid guarma🗣🔥🔥💯💯💯
Id love a red dead game (Or a third redemption game) focusing on the natives, a lot of potential in terms of content and story.
That will be boring
Damn I always hated valentine because of all the mud
video idea: ranking every train station in red dead 2
I deleted rdr2 a while ago because i got bored of the game. I already played the story about 5 times, but this video made me want to install it again idk why
They fucking minutes, hell yeah
