Will 5 weeks of hard work pay off? Finally getting to sail my Crazy $150 Sailing Trimaran! (EP11)

- In this video I finally get to see if my crazy $150 Sailing Trimaran floats, and if my long hours of boat building in the freezing cold Melbourne winter nights has been worth it. I'm very worried the boat will sink again, so I take it up to Sugarloaf Reservoir where there is a fleet of Taipan Catamarans, Lasers/ILCA's, RS Aeros and more taking part in this winter series race, so that I won't at least be by myself if the worst does happen!

Frank would be proud of what you are doing. Keep up the good work.
I hope Frank would be proud, I’ll keep it up!
You are really doing us a favor with your upload schedule at the moment. It was athrill to watch and looks like so much fun. You had me on the edge of my seat when the port side started to fill with water. Great series! I hope you keep us updated on sealing the red float. Other than that I am looking forward to your next adventure!
I’m glad you like the upload schedule, do you mean the time they come out, or the frequency? I don’t think I can quite manage a new video every two days long term 😂 but I can keep making them upload at about 1-3AM our time so that they’re ready to go in the evening for Europeans! This won’t be the end of the series, but it will go on the back burner for a bit whilst I work on the next one
That's super cool😎 good to see you back out on the water! Can't wait to see the next project!❤
Thanks Harrison, I might have a day or two off before I start on the next one!
Well done. It would warm the cockles of Frank's heart!
Thanks Michael, I couldn’t believe it when I saw a well known yacht designer like you pop up in the comments!
Good result Tom,looks like a fun boat to hoon around in.
Thanks Brett, it is a great boat for hooning around!
hell yeah
Exactly my thoughts when I got to sit on the float!
Built a double Hobie 16 once.Extended the beams to 16’ wide, two complete rigs, mains and jibs.First test sail about 12 knots of wind, going like a dream upwind, leeward hull started going down and SNAP,forward section of hull broke off in front of front pylon 😂😂😂😂 cost us a bit more than $150 ,I can tell you .
That’s epic, I wish there was a video of that!
Very cool boat. Well done 👏
Will you keep her and get the set up correct to give the new boats a run for their money?
Almost a perfect start 💪👍
Thanks Chris, a little bit late to the start but at least I didn’t hit the starboard tackers! I’m not quite sure what direction to take the project now, part of me wants to go mental and make it as fast as possible, the other part of me wants to keep it as is since it’s so rare!
To fill one of the floats with water to get faster - genius 😉
I was thinking I could use a transfer pump and have permanent water ballast 😂
Bro you do such grate vids keep it up❤❤❤
Thanks, will do!
Fair play pal that’s cool as
Thanks!
Loving the series! Can't wait for the next episode! I think the upload schedule is working really well! It's so great to see this video and your perspective from Sunday! Thanks Tom!
1:57 in the bottom left!
Thanks Finn, I’m glad you made it into the video, thanks for your help putting it on the trailer! I’m not sure this schedule is sustainable, maybe we’ll go back to one video a week for a bit!
@@TomStuchberySailing-eg9vr whatever upload schedule suits you should be your priority! Make time for yourself and family! Keep it up Tom!
Will do, not going to push too hard but not going to stop either!
Very cool! Why not more downhaul? The main looks wrinkly?
That was as hard as I could pull it, I think those are starvation creases because I had the lowers too loose, so too much lower mast bend
1st test sail: sink and get rescued
2nd test sail: immediately enter a race
On a scale of easy to moth level, how much skill is needed to keep the wing floats off the water? 11:22 looked pretty quick!
I figured entering a race was the safest option, I couldn’t count on a boatload of friendly teenage fisherman coming past next time I needed rescue! It’s a lot easier to sail than a Moth, since heeling doesn’t really matter. Once you’re moving I’d say it’s easier than a moth to keep level, because your heel window is massive, as opposed to the moth where you need to get it heeled pretty accurately. It’s also way less twitchy!
It goes!!!!!!!!!!!!
It does!!
Wouldn't be a Tom video if there wasn't any swimming ;)
Haha no it wouldn’t be!
That is a total #stuchup
Need to put that on a hoodie!
