Excuses I've heard for why new toys aren't as good as G1 Transformers: - They don't have any metal (even though a lot of G1 toys didn't either) - They're too complicated (Not always) - The extra poseability takes away from using your imagination (WHAT!?) - The toys came first so toys based on the animation models are actually less faithful (Please see a doctor) - Kids would prefer G1 toys over new ones if given the choice (Having met kids who had the choice, I can say this is factual incorrect) It's all just fuddy duddy nostalgia goggles. I find it hilarious that the same people almost never have a problem with new toys of characters who never got toys in the 80's like Arcee.

Searching for my favorite character, I came across KBB MP21 "Beetle Wasp" and was instantly transported back to the 1980s. If you get the chance, procure yourself one of these brilliant 3rd party G1 upgrades. The robot form is the closest thing I have ever seen to the original cartoon, and the car form is so spot on, I've had people see it in my place and inquire if I was a VW enthusiast. Only to hear me reply, "I'm a Bumblebee enthusiast".

My aunt got me the TLK-VWBee 2 pack for Christmas, and I was like "aw yeah thank you" and spent all christmas day trying to transform the wee shit, and I think she got annoyed at me for doing so, and yeah, the energon igniter is way better and cuter, and also less....I don't want to say it's shit cause that would be mean, but yeah. Which seems like a metaphor for the Bumblebee movie, it didn't need lights and sounds! it didn't need to be overly complicated, it just needed to be short, sweet, to the point, and simple.
I'm the opposite. I got that set and was amazed at how much more basic TLK Bee is next to Studio Series Bumblebeetle. Like the Bay films looked good and felt good, but they just aren't as much fun now that Bumblebee (and by extension, the Beetlebee toy) exists

I found the Goldfire Bumblebee from the Thrilling 30s series to be a lot better than expected. The muted gold and dark blue colour scheme is brilliant, and he photographs so, so well.
It's an American comedy from the 90's with David Spade, John Favreau, and Jeremy Piven. Before they were stars. Once described as "The Animal House of the 90's". One of my favorite films. You should give it a go. :D
