Agreed. I’ve learned my lesson and now those meh figures will probably be going into a box to save space. Get the figures you want, get the characters you want, and you’ll be happy. Most of legacy is untouchable for me, and I’m ok with that. I’m better for it.
I second this. I only purchase figures I NEED to have and because I've got extra money to spend on this hobby, I can now afford an upcoming 3P DOTM Dino figure (hopefully, it's still on pre-order so idk what the price tag will be)
True. I sold it all and I buy a figure sometimes because it has funky colours or something. And I only like those with weird colours for an example. Dont buy stuff you dont really like or need.
I second this comment wholeheartedly. I'm still a student (on the verge of completing grad school and going into the industry but still) and that means I have not a lot of means to simply buy everything that comes out. I'm highly selective of the figures I purchase and would always just go for that one definitive figure for that specific character. This strategy has served me well. My room still has space for airflow/oxygen and most importantly, I'm not broke.
I like how it took you an entire different line of toys for a different series made you realize, "Man... maybe Transformers aren't THAT bad... could be worse." Lol
The only way to avoid buying too much, is to ask yourself "do I really care about this character?". Personally it helped me out when it came to not buying almost every character there is. When I'm in retail I'll usually hold onto the figure and walk around with it and then I'll ultimately just leave it when my mind thinks it's not necessary to buy it, if I am not into the character.
These last few lines have been an absolute blessing. I used to collect masterpiece and third party and around the time of Mp44 coming out and seeing the price I decided that the hobby just became too expensive. As an American, finding stuff around my area in the northeast is actually impossible. I’ve had to take to eBay, Pulse, and Amazon just to find good stuff that I want. I even drove by hasbro HQ in RI and cursed their names as I went by. Hence, my long and slowly dwindling stint with Gundam models since Bandai can only make 3 a year now instead of the 40+ we used to get as far back as 2020. But hey, just know, you’ve got people across the pond in your same situation, and we’ll all try to make due and skip lunch a few times so that we can all afford Tidal Wave. Great video, man! Edit: Aftermarket is still crazy, I just payed almost 200 US Dimmadollars on a boxed SS56 Shockwave and $140 for a boxed siege Jetfire. I’m so excited but god damn, my wallet is empty. Second edit: I’m sorry for all the people who bought Galaxy Shuttle and Cosmos at unholy prices. United just announced they are redoing those two. I’m so sorry for y’all, I’m right there with you. Payed almost $300 for MP10. He came with everything so it was worth it, but oh my god. So much money I could have saved.
As someone who only recently got into the transformers fandom and collecting the figures, it truly is a horrific experience and I love every bit of it. I’m mostly into beast wars and collect any designs that I like. I usually end up waiting for a sale most of the time and from the beginning already gave up on collecting entire lines. There’s just too many of them.
It's really cool that you enjoy tuning in to the fanstreams, the Transformers team seems super nice. On the other hand, us Marvel Legends collectors have to deal with an absolutely abysmal team lmao. The brand-to-consumer relationship is terrible, they're so blatantly un-passionate and corporate, they hate us, we hate them, it sucks. So it's nice to see that fans of other lines don't have that issue.
Ive pretty much cut back on the hobby. With the rising prices its hard to justify buying so many figures. I only get the ones I know for sure ill want in the collection. But that being said, I really like the direction they are going style wise. For the most part the figures look great and its so cool so see characters and designs even from the old comics.
I usually wait for sales and am being very selective about figures to add to my collection. I mostly just go for ones that I personally like the design of
I thought being a Godzilla collector and having to deal with below average figures being sold for over £100, but at least I can find my figures, ya'll fighting for your lives

The whole collecting thing for no other reasons than self satisfaction is normal. I, myself love collecting yugioh cards that did appear in the show and then they sit here in my binders doing nothing but looking nice next to each others. Also thanks for making my day better.
I have the urge to buy the entire Transformers 2007 run because some of the figures are exclusive to that run when they came out and haven't appeared anywhere else.
I genuinely was not aware you were in Singapore. Hope you had a fun time. And yes, the statement of a number of our toy shops in shopping malls is pretty accurate. It actually is just a dude (or a couple depending) just sitting there, and there is just stuff all over. I'm honestly surprised you're not broke. Stuff here is damn expensive.
Im enjoying the amount of love IDW has been getting in the legacy toyline! Tarn! Senator Ratbat! SENATOR SHOCKWAVE?!?! Please tell me this means we're gonna see some IDW content in the new movie
@@dkkanofkash8798 Transformers One is releasing September next year and if it was delayed or even cancelled, every Transformers news channel would be talking about it.
One thing about the Velocitron Speedia 500 subline that confounds me to this day is that pics of a Studio Series 86 Hot Rod in G1 toy colors popped up somewhere, and then it just... didn't exist. Walmart quietly canceled the Velocitron subline so that they could get to the next subline, so the cool-looking Hot Rod deco that (I assume) a lot of people wanted got sent on its way to oblivion.
I'm not huge in the toy scene, but I admit I was one of the folks furiously looking for Cosmos, Galaxy Shuttle, and even Ark, all who were said to be relegated to discount stores. I never found them but the whole ordeal of checking near daily for them did make me step back and reflect on it all too ahaha. And yea my toys, if not being used as an art model reference, DO just stand and collect dust, as I hardly transform my transformers...but I like them that way, as my decoration aha. Loved seeing the clips of TFNation (of which I never went to), makes me excited for the convention on my side of the world, TFCon. As well as the travel bits and toy review. What a fun video!!
The funny thing about the velocitron line is that entire line minus Galaxy Shuttle showed up at Ross in the US for a third of the price. A bunch of other figures showed up at Ross too.
I don't think this would solve the burnout, but something that would at least help a little would be to get some shelves. being able to create interesting displays and posing your figures together , finding the perfect spot for those brand new guys, adds another level of fun to getting new figures. plus it would make them easier to view so instead of them blending into one giant mass on the floor you could make guys pop out. just something I've found helps me out when I'm feeling a little tired is taking some time to change up the displays and poses.
let's not forget the other collector rabbit hole that is the ancestor of the Transformers toy line that is Takara Tomy's Diaclone, more specifically the modern remake nicknamed by the fandom as "Diaclone reboot".
Really want to thank my parents for getting me the Armada Prime yesterday, it’s definitely in the top 3 commander figures released! And give me that ‘Gamer Edition’ Bruticus and more importantly, the concept Transit. Give me the bus, I need him!
The first Transformers media I consumed and enjoyed was Transformers Prime, since last year I've gone insane trying to find all the old and new pieces of that series and have found myself with a smiling face and an empty wallet.

Living in Nz, i feel makes these problems just as bad as aussie as we don't have that many stores that even stock the toylines. I work retail and we have not seen a drop in evolution, so my hopes for getting united are slim. But I am so glad my rules are set, cause hobbies are getting way too crazy now. I'm just glad my boi Magnus, has been getting so much love
One of my restrictions is to only buy what I can get physically. NZ definitely helps in that aspect at least. I mean I still want to buy half of the stuff I see but at least it’s manageable right?
I love listening to people just talk about action figures. I don't collect transformers but I've been eyeing a few. This is a great recap of what was offered in 2023
Trust me when Scourge was showing up in the US. I was going into stores every day. Never showed up, I bought him online, but the next day, he showed up.
Don't forget the Velocitron wave 2 figures that barely showed up ANYWHERE like the g1 toy colors hot rod! I saw him ONCE in a walmart when I had no money for it and never again, not even online! Apperently scalpers didn't even get ahold of them in a decent enough quantity like they did theother velocitron figures, they're just somewhere in the void of "figures that never got shipped out" and were considered "cancelled without announcement".
Adam wasn’t kidding in the last video when he said that they made 500 figures. I’ve only seen one Cosmos anywhere science he released, and I have found ONE wave 2 figure, and it was at a clothing store
The 3 wave 2 figures that actually showed up anywhere in significant quantities were scalped immediately and never showed up here for the most part in actual physical retail, kind of a similar case to the infamous "Cobra island" waves of Gi joe classified. Only it's worse because several figures in the wave just somehow dissipated into smoke where not even the scalpers had them. I'm not really sure which is worse of an outcome because both of them just result in thousands of figures just rotting in some nebulous storage place.
0:15 I don’t think I have ever seen a meme that so perfectly encapsulates my experiences on the internet. It’s simultaneously horny, funny, references Transformers, a movie and FNAF. Impressive.
as someone getting into Gunpla, I totally relate to the thing about getting into a hobby with a ton of pre-existing stuff and overspending. My experience was basically "wow, that hg Char's Zaku is really pretty cheap, oh but now I should get Norris' Gouf Custom because I love that show and they're both Zeon aces, but if I'm being honest that Char's Zaku doesn't match with my Gouf as much as this other version of the Zaku, so I should get that. Well now that I have two Zeon aces I should probably get a classic RX-78 so I have a good guy for them to fight against. Oh, and I should probably get some stuff from outside the UC timeline lik-" and it just keeps going forever
me when my collection is a bit of everything and now I'm like: "who can I pair with who" and my wishlist just explodes. add to that mecha musume kits, which is basically figurarts, but model kits, and I am drowning in boxes
Legacy and Studio Series Figures are so cool. But you know what would've been better? ACTUALLY FINDING THEM IN STORES. (Literally no stores near me ever restock them and online shops make them overpriced as hell)
Bolt I feel your pain when it comes to stock issues. To be fair I do live in the US so it is still easier for me than you but where I live it is next to impossible to find anything in stores because i live in a town in the middle of bumfuck nowhere with people that don't care enough to feed into my unhealthy spending addiction so half the time I either pre order the figures when their announced, or buy them on mercari for slightly more than I should. And every time I travel I IMMEDIATELY look for the nearest toy store just to look for more studio series figures because where I live has NOTHING. Moral of the story is if you want to find things in stores on time you'll have to live in a major city in the US or UK.
20:08 if you don’t want to stress about breaking a hand when doing this get a blow dryer and heat up the spot. Boiling the figures has also worked either directly in the water or in a bag
12:51 at a Transformers convention, you have to have a conversation piece on the table. i go to TFcon Toronto every year, and you will not catch me eating lunch without 1 cool thing i bought. Its TF fan code of conduct you just have too. It lets you make friends, the number of friends ive made at cons that were started by "YOOOO SICK PICKUP DUDE!" at lunch/dinner are uncountable. Also you should totally go to a TFcon in the US or Canada, its awesome.
Great video as always, summarizing the collecting experience. Honestly I'm in a pretty good place managing my collecting habits, a lot of recent releases haven't interested me all that much so I was able to skip out on a lot of them this year. I'm now just collecting solely characters I just have some attachment to aside from some other cherry picked ones. I've currently got all my grails so they're no longer constantly hanging over my head and from leaked listings I can tell I'm only going to get a handful of stuff next year. But I've awakened something far worse and I've now gone into third party. Thankfully the only thing stopping me from going any further is the fact I don't collect Masterpiece or Legends and 3p Deluxe/Voyager/Leader scale has been dead for years and finding characters I want from there is even harder but the few purchases I've done from it were real heavy. It's nice knowing everyone stuck here experiences pretty much the same things universally in this hobby. 😭 I don't know what demonic hold these plastic kid figures have over us.
I went to my first TFN as a foreign student in 2018 and loved, beyond the excellent toy selection and events, how warm and friendly the atmosphere was. Happy you got to experience it yourself!
I miss the days when the Transformers aisle was so full with many figures that were worth collecting instead of the hollow toys that are now the Mainline figures and of how empty they are now
The toys this year have been amazing again, each year is getting better and better. United will be really sick, as well as the Concept SS line that they’re coming out with.
Finally yes I was one of those people lucky enough to find cosmos in Australia in the Store but I went to 10 different Kmarts and had to ask to see if they had it in the back but it was a thrill to get him
i believe this is my first encounter with your videos and i have to say, your vibes are incredibly good also don’t explode your brain trying to collect the space robots. ok bye love you
2:16 they better do that constrocon with the big ass saw blade chest I remember studying that thing as a kid and thinking it was cool as hell and wanting a toy of it so badly
Also, I feel your troubles with getting tf figures mainly because no one around me fucking sells the newer ones and I have to wait if i want to get them in stores
I'm glad to have found Cosmos by pure happenstance in my local Kmart, back in 2022. Out of that entire Velocitron line, he and Override were the only two I made a point of grabbing once I saw them.
Being a transformers fan has reminded me that addiction can come in many forms because like why else would I be spending the down payment on a car on a chunk of plastic based off a character who said a single line in a TV show from like 30 years ago😭😭
Your story of you going to k-mart is exactly how I was hunting down bombshell and he just wasn’t in any of the store I went to and I would check every week just for my favorite insecticon
Fighting the urge not to buy a Transformers figure every time you see one is the most painful thing any Transformers fan can do
So true!!!😅
True. And then half the time, you regret it (for me, it was SS Jetfire)
For me it was legacy armada Optimus prime

I'm just glad my boi Magnus, has been getting so much love
I've ended up getting everything off trademe since stores never seem to restock at all
One of my restrictions is to only buy what I can get physically. NZ definitely helps in that aspect at least.
I mean I still want to buy half of the stuff I see but at least it’s manageable right?
I love listening to people just talk about action figures. I don't collect transformers but I've been eyeing a few. This is a great recap of what was offered in 2023
i love how this became a trojan horse on S.H figuarts, TFnation and how based Singapore and the TF team are.
As a fellow Aussie 6:38 was so true that and also poor quality of stocked like literally sometimes they are completely open on the floor
"why do you have two bulkheads"
"shut the fuck up"
average transformers fan interaction
"I found out not a single person in London knows how to cook real food"
Mate that's just the UK, we don't know how food even works here.
I'm sorry
Also you should totally go to a TFcon in the US or Canada, its awesome.
for me the purpose of colelcting, is literally to put them in a closet and to sometimes take some for 3-4 minutes and to fiddle around with them.
As a UK citizen, I can confirm that the average Birmingham experience is basically the equivalent of being cannon fodder in a John Wick movie
Diamondbolt, Jobby and Criminal?? Ive had a good winter :D
I don't know what demonic hold these plastic kid figures have over us.
18:44 Funny this is how i got into Transformers last year.
I went to my first TFN as a foreign student in 2018 and loved, beyond the excellent toy selection and events, how warm and friendly the atmosphere was. Happy you got to experience it yourself!
ive never consumed a single bit of transformers media in my whole life but good video bro
I miss the days when the Transformers aisle was so full with many figures that were worth collecting instead of the hollow toys that are now the Mainline figures and of how empty they are now
Been a fan since day 1 keep it up!!
The toys this year have been amazing again, each year is getting better and better. United will be really sick, as well as the Concept SS line that they’re coming out with.
12:03 well that’s was so uncalled man just because he has 2 animated bulkheads for no reason
Finally yes I was one of those people lucky enough to find cosmos in Australia in the Store but I went to 10 different Kmarts and had to ask to see if they had it in the back but it was a thrill to get him
I also wondering how much the earthrise trail br eaker was 17:44
14:06
Okay, but… what’s the plan if she’s ALSO down for collecting them?
i believe this is my first encounter with your videos and i have to say, your vibes are incredibly good
also don’t explode your brain trying to collect the space robots. ok bye love you
2:16 they better do that constrocon with the big ass saw blade chest I remember studying that thing as a kid and thinking it was cool as hell and wanting a toy of it so badly
This past couple of years are the best for the transformers series since DOTM
17:58 transformers is lucky for Godzilla and Jurassic Park stuff in Singapore we have to wait like 45555667788k years for one figure.
I always bring a little dude when I go eat with friends that's why I love core class so much
Also, I feel your troubles with getting tf figures mainly because no one around me fucking sells the newer ones and I have to wait if i want to get them in stores
17:01 gimme that Tarn figure rn!
I'm glad to have found Cosmos by pure happenstance in my local Kmart, back in 2022. Out of that entire Velocitron line, he and Override were the only two I made a point of grabbing once I saw them.
18:23 I would not mind if one day you make a S.H Figuarts dragon ball video
As a transformer fan, these are my favourite ones of your videos
If posing figuarts takes 15 years off your life posing a yamaguchi would kill you💀
Being a transformers fan has reminded me that addiction can come in many forms because like why else would I be spending the down payment on a car on a chunk of plastic based off a character who said a single line in a TV show from like 30 years ago😭😭
I have bad news for you, galaxy shuttle is getting a reissue
And Cosmos….all that struggle for nothing, but hey fine for me I don’t have either!
Your story of you going to k-mart is exactly how I was hunting down bombshell and he just wasn’t in any of the store I went to and I would check every week just for my favorite insecticon
