- The Detroit People Mover (DPM) is a 2.94-mile (4.73 km) elevated automated people mover system in Detroit, Michigan, United States. The system operates in a one-way loop on a single track encircling downtown Detroit, using Intermediate Capacity Transit System linear induction motor technology developed by the Urban Transportation Development Corporation. In 2022, the system had a ridership of 364,300, or about 1,800 per weekday as of the second quarter of 2023. ~Wikipedia

The Detroit People Mover is such a great train to get around Downtown Detroit, especially viewing Windsor, Ontario, Canada on the other side
such a beautiful, clean, and lovely downtown
Heard that iDestroIT wants to buy Toronto's old elevated trains (of the same system), 12 cars. It's good news for iD but they definitely need double tracks in suitable places to get pass by each other train and thus organize 2-ways motion
I wish it was double-tracked originally
With strategically located passing sidings this could be a two-way operation. It makes no sense to have to travel all the way around to go back one or two stops.
The Detroit People Mover has the bones to be a decent rapid-transit system! All it needs is a two-way operational configuration and an aggressive expansion plan that involves breaking out of the downtown core into adjacent mixed residential /commercial districts that would serve to benefit from a richer array of public transit options than is currently offered. While it likely will never be on par with Vancouver's SkyTrain, certainly there is political opportunity and ridership demand for something far more beneficial to the wider city!
So many buildings were torn down and replaced with parking lots and garages that what used to be a dense downtown urban core now feels like a suburban office park. Hopefully the city, metro area, and their citizens can reverse this and build an areawide skytrain.
Fun fact! There's an indoor skytrain inside Terminal 'A' of the Detroit Metropolitan Airport. I took to shave 10 minutes off walking from one end of the terminal to the other. Very nice experience!
Love this! Move videos like this please!
The haunting sounds and chime of the people mover alwasy gets me🤣
Yes!!!!! The TTC Scarborough RT is still here with us!!! I can hear that distinctive motor. 1:15 Even the TTC chime is still there? I’m going to Detroit
Interesting to see the new construction happening. Like that new highrise at 15:32 which seems to be fairly large. Perhaps the city is headed in the right direction again.
That's the Hudson site development.
Doubt it Detroit is dead bro
It’d be cool if they expanded the people mover instead of pouring money into QLine, transporting people around downtown is cool but having trains going out to where people actually live would be nice.
Hey Tim! I rode the People Mover in Detroit Michigan before in 2016 and 2017!
America made its own DLR
7:30 I used to live directly across the water from this station 5 years. Could hear it howlin' along when the wind blew the right way. I miss cruising woodward ave in my 57 chevy, wolfin' coneys chez Lafayette's & the gunfire on new year's eve. The Henry Ford. Detroit people "get it" when you're a car fanatic any other city folk they think you're a weirdo.
Fantastic video. Fond memories.
1:14 my god that bell wants to die
Cool people mover👌💚
This will be familiar technology to anyone who has ridden Vancouver's Skytrain. Wow, all those curves, and empty stations!
yeah the skytrain has way more usage
id say this is better than a metro
Doesn't seem like it has too many passengers. Nice peaceful ride
Considering it opened in the late 80s, the ridership is terrible. It should have been double tracked by now. If ut was, I'm sure it would be much more popular.
If there are no people to move, is a People Mover really a People Mover?
👏🏿👍🏿
✌🏾
Ok video
It is now a free ride service😅😅
Что-то людей не видно не на одной станции, даже как-то жутко если ехать одному.
pretty empty city..?
