Carp and Buffalo suckers are some of my favorites to catch! They put up the best fight!

I'll have to try and get some bigmouth buffalo this summer when I'm traveling through that range.

Love the new format of these adventure videos! Also the underwater camera and especially the rig stuff. Nobody ever shows you how how rig these in other videos they're just like "I'm gonna use Drag Ned Zing Bang rig and just pop and drop it around the shoreline" I'm always thinking "WHAT does all that mean?!" Thanka for showing the rig!

Thanks Ian! I appreciate the feedback. I'll work on squeezing in more rig specifics on the upcoming videos.

Roll up a piece of bread, put on a hair rig...Leave it plain if you want Buffalos, dip it in jello mix to make it sweet if you want carp.
Bigmouth Buffalo will eat just off the bottom, Black and Smallmouth will eat directly on the bottom. So for Bigs, I recommend a bagel instead of bread since bagels float.
No need for method leads either. Chum the area if you want.

Alright, sounds like some solid advice!

My go to carp bait for a first chum in a new spot is 2 cans of sweet corn, a container of bread crumbs, cheap dog food for filler to make it last longer, one can of condensed milk and a bottle of Baileys Irish Cream. The alcohol really draws them in like crazy.

Irish cream liqueur in carp bait...very interesting. Thanks for sharing that recipe with us Robert!

Cool video! Carp is a nemesis species for me, we don't have the rivers here to support quantities of them, its a 2 to 3 hour drive west for me to get where their plentiful. When I do go west it's for the white bass run in the spring and I forget about carp. My buddy has had luck sight casting them in a lake near me that has a few, but im never lucky enough to see them

Ah yes, the good ol' nemesis species! Right on, thanks again for sharing Matthew.

Definitely on my list to try and catch some day. But then do I want to risk what happened to your set up? It’s a dilemma.

Yeah, understandable. I've already got some PVC pipe that I'll make into some portable rod holders.

Wowser! Those were some large fish! Two questions: Why garlic? That’s not part of their natural environment. When you’re returning the fish to the water, why do you rock it back and forth?

    • @KNFishingSmarts
      @KNFishingSmarts  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Heya Sarah. Garlic has just been one of those proven baits for many carp species passed on by generations of fishers. I haven't dug into the science behind it works...but it works to attract 'em.
Secondly, the rocking of the fish back and forth is a way to force oxygen through the gills and give the fish a bit of a 'breather' before the release. It's just a way to make sure the fish is 'with it' before letting it go.

Sweet corn does seem to be a solid bait. Thanks for sharing your bait preference Carl.

Love the video. But don't you eat carp. They're great fried.

Appreciate that! Yeah, I do harvest carp every now and again. It's good meat, but it's just not among my favorites so I save the fridge/freezer space for others. Cheers!
