Hello everyone and welcome to Music Theory with GUIM! In this installment we take a look at one of Debussy's earlier songs, Beau Soir. First off, I apologize if I totally botched the pronunciation of the title. I do not speak French at all.
Anyways, check out this short video and learn a little bit about the harmony that Debussy uses. We'll certainly be returning to this piece in the future as well as dig into many others!
    Thanks for watching!!

Some of the best parts of your analyses are when you simply play the harmony in blocks with a different instrument like at 2:24. It really makes me hear it in a new way.

Really nice analysis. Plus I love how you center much of it in how a composer may use it on their own pieces. Great video!

Minor bVII is such a great sound! I've been in love with it ever since I first heard Cenktrich from Gun Hazard.

That was a very insightful explanation! At first look seeing this chords it's difficult to wrap your head around the logic of the harmonic progression, but based on how you've explained it makes a lot of sense that this Dmin6 is borrowed from E phrygian and Gmin is a "color" chord to create an impactful effect.
Could you list some examples of Debussy pieces where you can hear harmonies like this? I'd like to hear it in the context of a piece.

Could you please do a comparison of Debussy's style elements with those of Ernest Fanelli? I'm especially interested in any similarity between Fanelli's work and things Debussy published BEFORE attending the World's Fair.
