The wicker structures are made by local artist Trevor Leat who is amazing. Most of his art ends up being burned in ceremonies. A most evanescent art! There is usually a local Wickerman festival in the area, not this year of course.
His work is amazing - such a pity to burn it! xx
I seen the horror movie called the Wicker men, horrible as they trapped the people inside and lit the Wicker men alight
I've been to the wicker Man festival a few times. Some pretty famous bands have played there. I remember seeing the animals, the buzzcocks and the stranglers play there.
He is the uncle of the actor Sam Heughan who is Jamie in Outlander. They have had Trevor make several pieces for the show.
His work is absolutely incredible

I just love to watch you work, Gail, it's so relaxing. BTW I think you are correct about the metal plate, I believe it is a 'G' like you said, not a 'C' & that crosspiece has fallen off. Ungle is actually a very old surname in Britain. It makes perfect sense that the piece was a combined nameplate & no trespassing sign for someone's property.

Hello Ladies,
The "Private Uncle" plate was made using the M.I.G welding process, is most likely on "hot rolled" mild steel plate and so is probably less than 30 years old.
To me this makes it super interesting as this is exactly the sort of thing we used to knock together to tease each other back when I worked in a steelworks in the 80s-90s, unless there's some other explanation "Uncle" was probably a facetious nickname for a grumpy older worker...

My favorite show growing up.
We used to go to Kirkcudbright when I was a child and we holidays near there at Bridgehouse bay. I loved Kirkcudbright because I would spend my holiday money in the big toy shop there on Britain's animals.
Basically, I love everything about your videos, but if I had to pick just one thing, I love that you give us some history and stories.
Such beautiful leaves Gail. One of my favorite scriptures in the Bible is in Rev. 22:2 "The leaves of the trees are for the healing of the nations"!

My family were pragmatic souls. I was taught "Find a penny, pick it up and all day you'll have a penny..."
Find a penny pick it up give it to some one else the rest of the day they Will have good luck. That's how I used to say it.
The oak leaves are gorgeous. I can see them on a chain as a necklace. Having great tools are a must, no matter the profession.
My mother would have absolutely adored those leaf necklaces! She loved to dabble in bead jewelry and would have been mesmerized by them! They're gorgeous!

the leaves are exquisite, it is amazing how you can repurpose all kinds of bits and pieces.
My hometown, where I went to school and lived a few doors down from the castle! Used to muck around on the neck manacle at the Tolbooth (where suspected witches were tortured, sadly) and ghostwatch the castle (never saw any). Realise now that the weird clay things in the garden were actually clay pipes!
I absolutely love the Oak leaf! Several years ago, a derecho hit our little valley and knocked down our 200+ year old White Oak. I know 200 years isn't much compared to the history of the British Isles, but that tree meant a great deal to me. I love watching your hands work, and to those that give you both flak about your manicures just tell them...only the best have hands that can move the soil and make things grow. Gardener's manicures are the BEST manicures out there! 😉 Thank you for another lovely moment away from the current madness.

Good tools make the world of difference in most areas, I find. I work in retail arts and crafts, and I always recommend people buy the most expensive they can afford (paint brushes especially) That leaf is stunning.
