Is there anything you Ladies can't do?! Your pottery is beautiful! Gail's brick would make Phil Johnson proud and that ink from Alex is just gorgeous! Another amazing video! Thank you 😃 x
Thanks for the clay demonstration ! Glad you were able to get out for a beautiful new day of Mudlarking . Anne from Massachusetts , USA . Carpe Diem Everybody !
What can you ladies NOT do. That clay work was amazing. Well done. My favourites were the ink pot and that gorgeous little brick. You should make a bunch of the bricks and give them to your supporters as gifts. :)
With all the skills you attempt (and master) I wonder if your next project will be gem cutting! If the equipment wasn't so expensive, I bet you would tackle that in a heartbeat. Well done, ladies.
Wow! That was fun! I love the clay figures, you both did such thoughtful projects. Perfect. And the tap was a find! People pay a fortune for the repro and you find one stream larking.👏👏 Gorgeous relaxing, beautiful video as always. Thx 👏👏❤️❤️

It makes you realise how hard our potters had to work to make one small bowl.and now most of it has been taken abroad so sad.Alex i think you need a potters wheel.the ink pot was wonderfull well done.
Fascinating process to watch you process the clay and make your lovely items. The little pork pie ink and the brick were my favorites. I look forward to your videos so much every Monday morning (in Australia) Nothing better than the Northern Mudlarks and coffee ☕️
Having clay like that right on your doorstep, you could make your own roman pots and clay pipes, very lucky. The things you both made are wonderful, hope you do make a larger kiln, but the agates..just wow! Thank you!
Wonderful day out, with some special finds, especially the red clay! Those are the sweetest, little miniatures you both made. When Gail was shaping the rectangular shape, I thought, “Oh, she’s making a perfume brick.”, which is something I saw for the first time on “Si-Finds” TH-cam channel the other day, when he was digging with a couple of friends in a bottle dump. It was a little brick, about the same size, marked with the words, “perfume brick”, and the man who found it said that it would be soaked with a bit of perfume to make a lady’s chest of drawers smell nice.
Awesome! You girls succeed in all you put your minds to, well done multi taskers. That worked well your pottery. Its nice you can find the clay and fire it yourselves too! Thanks for the video and have a great week.
Ground up pipe stems - interesting. I was incredibly surprised that "wild clay" survived the kiln. The clay looks like that used for common Roman pottery. Well done Gail and Alexis. Thank you.
Back in the day I would hunt for natural clay, straining and sifting it, I would sell big blocks of it to the schools for their art classes, what a great find! here we have yellow, grey, brown, red, and white and black natural clays. That clay is what Cobb homes are made of! So much you can do with it! Terrific job! love the little ink pot! Beautiful colors in the agate! sometimes chert, and jaspers and quartz become "agatized" over time. I wonder if the one piece you found isn't what we call common opal? I am surprised to see spring flowers all ready there! so beautiful! What great finds and a wonderful outing! thanks for sharing!
So glad the firing was a success after all your hard work! What super results, I think my favourite is the brick! When my nephew was about 15 he collected grey clay from the cliffs near the beach by us, he spent hours smashing it down then moulding it and made a fantastic Greek temple, he still has it somewhere and is rock solid even though it has never been in a kiln! Wouldn't know how to start building a kiln, so looking forward to watching your attempt at that! My best regards to you two amazing ladies!
What an amazing place you both have, so tranquil, and it would be so much fun to explore. The clay things you both made were so cute, look forward to seeing what other magic things you ladies make, with your very own river clay.
You live in a very remote and beautiful location. Was a lovely walk along the Byrne and great to find agates and carnelians. That clay was good and amazing what you both made with it. I love the brick and the pork pie pot. Just so clever for the first time. Thank you and enjoy your week.
I love working with Clay! You did it exactly how it would have been done. Slab or coil is , I feel, the best way to create what you did! Great job! And that was a beautiful spot you were at! It looks very ancient! Thank you for taking us with you! Bless you 💜
That was amazing. Can they now be glazed and put back in the kiln. You know what you need next, right? You need a rock tumbler and a wet saw to slice your agate. You never cease to amaze.....well done
Thank you very much! We are going to experiment with glaze and see how they turn out. We would absolutely love to cut and polish our agate to use in our jewellery, defiantly something for a future project! xx
@@NorthernMudlarks The Navajo have a traditional method they use to achieve a glossy surface. They make their pottery and allow to dry hard. They find a smooth, river rounded stone that's not gritty and rub the pots surface with it making it shiny. They then use metal tools to scratch/carve traditional designs. Stone rubbing the interior makes the item waterproof. Like you, they excavate their own clay from river beds. Where they live was once an ancient inner sea in the cretaceous, so mud and sand of differing qualities is abundant. A potter often keeps their smoothing stone for life.
May I suggest you always carry a bucket with a few tools in it, say a knife, an old screwdriver, some plastic bags (for clay etc) You will know what you could have used on other occasions. Like the Boy Scouts - Be Prepared. Lovely rocks. You live in a great area for it by the looks of it. Maybe where the river bank was revealed, you may reveal more under the new surface. I’m itching to get at it myself. A bit hard from Melbourne, Oz though. Let’s see what you make from all those bits and bobs one day.
When I saw your clay brick, I remembered something from one of your fellow mudlarker's videos. Nicola and Simon were digging at an old dump site. Simon found a tiny unglazed brick about lego size, and it was stamped perfume brick. They said that people would spray the brick with their favorite perfume or cologne and leave the brick in a drawer with the clothes. It seems like a clever idea, though I would wish for something prettier than a brick, maybe a perfume tablet with the impression of a decorated perfume bottle I have. It really is fun watching your videos and being inspired by the things you are doing. ♡
I really love seeing your creativity!! When I was in primary school we did some clay work for craft and we use to roll the clay out on pieces of hessian. The hessian gave an automatic cris cross kind of pattern on one side that we could use for the joining parts.. I'm not sure why else we had them other than maybe to make less mess? LOL I have some weird and wonderful pottery from back then. Great memories and watching this just brings it all back!! Thank you for sharing.
