    Ruptured my left patellar tendon playing basketball just like this four years ago. Then two years ago I partially tore my right one. The full rupture required surgery, but the partial tear did not. Oddly enough though, the partial tear took a lot longer to heal, ultimately that knee is better now than the one I suffered the full rupture on though. Praying a full recovery for Oladipo! 🙏

    fun fact, once oladipo burst on to the scene as an all star and led the pacers to the playoffs and they were knocked out in 2018, he texted his trainer in no less than 15 minutes after the elimination game demanding they get back in the lab. not basking in his new found glory, going on vacation, he had his eyes set on the bigger picture. i remember this story from 5 years ago because it resonated with me so much i think about it whenever i think ive done “just good enough”. he really has the mind of a champion but his body has simply deteriorated and turned against him. wish him all the best.

    @Brian Sutterer MD --- I am not sure if you were watching the game live, but I noticed live during the game that a Heat player was lying on the sideline at the end of the bench doing some stretching (with resistance loop/band) and rolling (with a ball) of his calves and thighs, definitely could see him working on his hamstring with the ball I could see that he was doing it for the left, not sure if he did it for the right), it was the yellow soles that caught my eye. After the injury and the replays were showing it immediately clicked that it was actually Victor Oladipo because of the shoes. Perhaps he was already feeling some tightness, soreness pre-injury. He was doing this about midway through in the 3rd quarter. I went back and watched the replay of this timeframe and noted that he sat back down on the bench after the rolling and stretching, but with his legs stretched out and then he checked in about 4 minutes later (by game-time) after the last of the stretching.

    Hi Doc, thanks for another brilliant video explaining another unfortunate injury. As someone who is very interested in sports and sports injuries, mainly injury prevention, in your opinion are there any methods to prevent injuries such as this, ACL’s, PCL’s etc.? I know a lot of nba fans especially hate the idea of load management, but does load management reduce the risk of long term injuries or are they “freak” things that are unavoidable?
    Thanks,
    Mo

    • @thelibrariansupermanny
      @thelibrariansupermanny ปีที่แล้ว

      I think the court is simply too small for the size and skill of the modern NBA player. This is resulting in high speed impacts to players who have greater vulnerabilities due to the increased size of ligaments, etc. On the other hand, back in the 80's and 90's there was Danny Manning. Danny blew out his right knee twice and his left knee once! And he returned every single time.

    • @moel-youssef8075
      @moel-youssef8075 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@thelibrariansupermanny Thank you for your reply and insight! I think you make an excellent point with athleticism being through the roof. I do often wonder if the nba will move towards shortening the season but making the court bigger that is a new idea I’ve not though of, would very interesting to trial it.
      One can only wonder whether Danny Manning could have been a name known by a lot more nba fans had injuries not been such a prominent part of his career.

    He couldn't straighten his leg from the look of it live. Dude's career could very well be over. Shit's a damned shame, have really been rooting for this kid ever since he joined the team. Bad shit always happens to good people 😟

    I'm still trying to figure out the Tyler Hero injury.. it's really unfortunate what's happening to Oladipo, his time in Miami has been really saddening. I want to hope for the best but man... I feel like this might be it.

    I’ve ruptured my patellar tendon twice. I’m grateful just to be able to walk. Haven’t been able to run again.

    Lowkey reminded me of Jeremy Lin when he was on the nets and he looked at his leg but Lin looked more in pain cause he was in tears

    I wonder how many of these guy’s injured took Cipro? I ruptured my patellar tendon about 10 years ago, and it was due to Cipro that I had taken 3 months prior.

    Andre Robertson immediately came to my mind when I saw Oladipo going down.
    As a Pacers fan, I feel terrible for him.
    If your suspect is correct, I think his career is over

    Are there any exercises that can help prevent an injury such as this?

      I get the discomfort in my left patellar tendon from time to time and I find the wall sits to be really helpful

      Spanish squats are also good with the wall sits.
