- This video highlights the Black Swallowtail and has clips of caterpillars that are just starting out in October. These young caterpillars are trying to survive for 3-4 weeks so they can turn into a chrysalis. Once a chrysalis they are able to overwinter and become a butterfly in the spring. See the host plant, Rue. Also the New England Aster is highlighted. This flower is a magnificent late season bloomer. Will these small Black Swallowtail Butterfly caterpillars make the transformations into beautiful, majestic butterflies?
Great vid uncle Dave!!!! 🤙
Thanks 👍
Fall color you show almost makes me miss Midwest. In FL, just got 1st black swallowtails on parsley. Stayed 8 days in chrysalis. Let them go.
Excited to hear you have swallowtails on your parsley! It is beautiful hear now with the trees changing, however, the frost is just around the corner. I am not looking forward to that.
Thank you so much for sharing! I love these guys
Glad you like them. I hope to see them grow and turn into a chrysalis!
Thanks Dave great presentation going to plant some rue next spring!
Carmen, So nice of you! Rue is a wonderful host plant for the Giant and Black Swallowtail butterflies.
I’ve got three black swallowtail chrysalis that are going to overwinter here in Nebraska. They formed a chrysalis about 3 weeks ago
That is fabulous, I hope they make it! I am not confident mine will make it through the hard freeze we are suppose to get over the next few days.
@@davethebutterflyguy9841 Mine survived the winter and I released them on May 6th!!
