Be very careful and do some research if looking into swapping front seats and suspension parts. Many vehicles have a pyrotechnic or tamperproof electric charge in the seat belt buckle. It pulls the belt /seat down tight in an accident, and can trigger if you attempt to remove or disconnect wires etc when the vehicle battery is connected. You could trigger the whole SRS/Airbag system and they're very expensive to replace, and an MOT fail if any parts have been deployed or the SRS lamp is on. Always check your insurers are OK with any safety related mods or extras, such as seating, suspension etc. It could void your policy in the event of any claim or theft.
I’ll admit, I was freaking out in the beginning of the video when you said “modifications”, my brain went to a very dark place as I like my cars to be stock looking. I’m very relieved that the changes were just cosmetic. It looks good!
The red grille edge would be more lasting masked off and aerosol can painted, cheaper than a new one. Motor factors that supply the trade can mix you a small aerosol can of paint for the plastic parcel shelf. Just take the car, or a trim piece for them to match. Then it needs a bit of surface prep to remove any grease or silicone polish before painting.
@@AutoSocialUK A light surface scuff of the lacquer after masking up, with an Ultrafine Scotchbrite pad or cutting compound would be enough to key a topcoat. You could easily remove the red at a later date if required, with a quick wipe of cellulose thinners, T Cut and polish. Just a thought if the tape fails. 😁
You know that was one of my favourite cars when I was younger in Berlin. Near where I lived there were two VW dealerships one of them had a gorgeous one in the showroom
Looking fantastic tish well done such a rare car but I've always liked them it will be better than new when you are finished when or if you have her resprayed have a glass out respray!
Hi there, great vid! Really silly question - where / what red tape did you use to apply to the rear GTI badge? I've just bought a Lupo and it is de-badged - want to return it to as it should be but can only find GTI badges without the red I!
Thanks so much for this post! It's definitely a change from your car reviews, which I appreciate and love. I admire that you are taking a few risks and learning to do some mechanical/electrical tasks. I was surprised the LUPO GTI has no OEM red strip; I thought it was a GTI trademark. It makes a nice little trim piece. Did not know one could still get a "tape deck!" Or a combo with a CD player. All my tapes are "history," and I stream music off my iPhone. Cute car. A bitty about the stone chips. (By the way, you look really cute in your "working on the car" outfit.)
Well, I think you did an amazing job, honestly, I wouldn't modify your car, suspension and brakes, they left a bit to be desired so possibly upgrade them, body wise, I would just get a good spray painter to touch it in, a full respray would run into thousands and the car is so original and quirky it would be a shame to spoil it, have a look around the scrap yards for the towing eye cover, I'm sure you'd find one for around a fiver, there's a few VW breakers from what I've been told, or look in VolksWorld magazine. The parcel shelf is meant to lift when you open the tailgate to allow you to load up the boot without it being in the way. If you haven't got the radio code, you may need the car registration from the car it originally came out of, VW can normally get the code from the details. The video was great, nice to see something a bit different, you did a good job, and the car is looking great too, definitely do more videos on the Lupo. Got to be honest, I'd sooner drive the Lupo than the Arbarth, it's a more individual, quirky little car
Thank you so much Andrew, I will start looking at a good suspension upgrades although I also wonder whether to bother as I don't ever plan on driving it hard? OK I will keep an eye out. I actually don't think £50 is the worst but I can keep an eye out for something second hand. Although I am not totally sure the towing eye cover on the non GTi was the same? I'll check. Good to know about the shelf, although it does get stuck upright even when I close the boot.... Ahhh that is a point, hopefully I can find it. I have seen there is them for sale on eBay. Thank you so much for watching and sharing your comments and I agree.... The Lupo is actually much nicer to drive!
I did have a peer in there and I think it looks like it has come loose. It's probably something very simple that someone that knows what they're doing could spot. I'll get a mechanic friend to take a look!
like the red trim on the grill and the detail on the GTI, I would say I’d keep the rest stock and work on the engine performance and slowly create a sleeper , lupo means wolf in German.
Absolutely loving this video. Very refreshing to see a more relaxed you. The red trim reminds me of the MK2 golf/Jetta GTi 16v red trim, really suits the Lupo. Great decision to go original on radio/tape/CD, top satisfaction reaction btw! The code isn't too much of an issue for the mobile radio fitters out there, maybe one of those are worth trying? I'll have to keep an eye out for you on the roads, you're not too far from me, so if you see a mini JCW driver waving it might be me.. lol! Good job and keep this new style coming. Stay safe!!
In answer to more vids of you and your cars doing more than reviewing, yes please. Your reaction when fitting radio was magic. I do wonder about the out-takes though, a bit blue were they?
The box with wires you cast aside. Was it part of the JVC, or the VW setup ? I'm not that familiar with that particular model, but I'm thinking it looks like it could be a BCM- Bluetooth Connectivity Module, fitted to some cars. You may need it if you want a phone to work properly hands-free, and mute the stereo on calls. You'll probably find a local radio decode specialist will unlock it for anything between £10-£20. It's a lot easier than going through all the security to get the code from a dealer.
Tasteful. Not 100% sure on the i on the front but they have to match obvs. Great to see more of the real Tish in this video ..... Remind me never to stand still in front of you .... don't need that, don't need that, don't need that 😂😂
Absolutely fantastic video Tish! I will admit at the beginning, I was sceptical and unsure, but as you put the pieces together, the Lupo looks very classy and stunning (especially the red trim by the grille)! With time, you will get used to doing these 'Modifications'! I would absolutely love to see more of type of VLOG style videos in the future! My favourite parts was the personalised number plate and the radio being installed! The red trim by the top grille adds that glossy touch to it! Keep up the great hard work! Buzzing for the next episode dropping soon! 👌🏻👍🏻👏🏻
Great video, Tish! I’m not sure if I’d say you got your hands “dirty,” but regardless, I’m proud of you. 😂😂 The trim actually looks pretty good! 👍🏼 Much better than I was expecting. Definitely hope to see more project videos down the road!
Done a great job Tish 👏🏻. Mechanic Content would be good, see how you get on with it and you learning along the way. I like what you did with the grille, looks smart. Great video Tish, look forward to more Lopo updates 👍🏻

Looks fine as is Save the money for, new alternator regulator, new rad, new rad fan switch, new coil pack, new rear callipers You will defo likely need some if not all of them at some point 😂 Mines been totally reliable in the main and it’s quick enough for what it is, capable of upsetting plenty of other cars on the road still 😂 Closest thing to a mk1 golf Gti you can buy for not a lot of money at the moment, but as they only made 850 of them for UK market and not many left! Im sure the prices will go up in the future, they are already selling for near double what i paid for mine all those years ago Great cars 👍🏻

Super super super cool. But it’s not going on my cool board.
Stick a k and n filter in the airbox for more performance and better exhaust note..
Nice job tho xx

VW LUPO GTI IN SUCH GREAT CONDITION IS SUPERB

I didn't really want to do anything too lasting like paint :) Thanks for the tips!

Good job Tish you did alright there, The Lupo was so shiny it looked like it had been in the Dishwasher!
Great video Natisha! Thanks for the shoutout. The Lupo looks gorgeous. Very nice mods - love the red trim around the grille and red i - awesome
You're very welcome!
Nice work, Tish!
I remember an episode of Wheeler Dealers where they spray painted a parcel shelf to be the correct colour. You could try that?
Very good idea! I'm thinking of getting some mats too, so maybe I'll do that at the same time!
Bright red mats look good 👍
A fun episode.
Not normally a fan of changing manufactures finishes but liked your red changes - most effective
They will always been little things that can be reversed!
We all have to start somewhere Tish, would VW have the centre caps at sensible money as old stock?
No i think they're a premium now!
Just found your channel and love it,you are doing a good job, will follow your channel from now on,keep up the good work much love from australia
Thank you so much John, I appreciate the support!
Well done Tish, the red trim looks great!

Thank you!

You did well...I think the red looks subtle, what's next an oil and filter change ?
I would love to learn how to do an Oil and filter change! That is a great idea.... although it was only done in June!
The Lupo looks ace. Great video :-)

I used a red craft vinyl from Amazon, it’s already sticky and I just cut it to size ☺️

Have you checked the fuse for the headlight washers? They blow in the winter if they operate when they are frozen to protect them.

hahaha thank you, it was out of my comfort zone so i was shocked at how easy it was! Ok i will keep an eye out!
I’ve seen some Turkish dudes on Insta change the radio setup on their cars, eg replacing the cheap plastic part from the Focus with a big touchscreen.
Excellent job , keep it going , for the centre pieces on the wheels try a scrap yard
I think they'll likely all be corroded unfortunately

We need more of these type videos, Maybe something on the Golf 😳🤭🤭
anyone else notice that the plate was back to the old one for the parcel shelf fitting? :)
