    Man this is awesome. Really. I am european, and I mostlly like agile sporty 4-6 bangers, but this... It looks like hell lot of fun driving! Its like 50 years old TRUCK, that gives probly arround 350-400 hp! I mean, look at the pull of that thing! Thats insane :D Amazing, and driving it countryside like that really must be ironing your soul.. :) Really really cool.

    I had a 1966 F100 with 352 V8 and 4 speed manual transmission. I loved that truck and drove for 10 years. But decided to restore my dad 1968 F100 with 390 V8 & C6 Automatic,( that was in 1988) It also is a great truck. I still drive it, it has never been parked. It out lasted my 2 olds cars

    I saw you defending my oil filter video on my channel and so I checked out your channel and hey you love old Ford Trucks! I sold my 67' Ford I had for a few years that had a 352 in it when I bought it. Of course I pulled that out and put a 460 in it with a roller cam and higher compression pistons, but that was just for better ummm, fuel economy, yeah. Anyways your truck sounds great.

      Would you prefer a 390 or a 460? I can’t decide and I’m choosing over a 68 ranger with a 390 big block or a 75 Ranger XLT with a 460.

    • @Krankie_V
      @Krankie_V  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@haydenfoutz6858 both are pretty good engines! The 460 has a better oiling system and probably a bit easier to build up. The valve train is better on the 460 as well. The FE engine series holds a special place in my heart though and because of that I will stick with them even though there may be better options out there.

    Shit, that sound ! I own a 63 t-bird with the 390 but it has been in the shop for over 5 months. Parts are hard to get in europe and it's sad to see these cars vanish from the roads. Even with the global warming shit going on, these American cars should survive. They have their place in history.

    • @Krankie_V
      @Krankie_V  5 ปีที่แล้ว

    On those old Cruise-O-Matics drive was actually in the lower position (where your shifter says 2), it starts out in 1st gear and goes to 2nd then 3rd. The position that we consider drive today was 2-3 for driving in snowy conditions. The lowest of course was 1st. Nice truck.

    Back for the umpteenth time LOL.
    I gotta rebuild the MX transmission in my 59 Mercury, it might actually be the same trans as in your truck. In D1 it acts like 2nd gear is gone but in D2 2nd gear is perfectly fine. Something in there also sounds like a paint can full of gravel at times LOL.
    I'm finally swapping a 4 speed into my '76 f150, and I'm on the lookout for a 390 crank and rods. It has a 360 so I figure when I go to rebuild it I might as well add the cubes.
    Hope all is well with you!

    • @Krankie_V
      @Krankie_V  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good to see ya buddy and that sounds like a fun project. I'm sure you probably know that in one of the drive positions it starts off in 2nd gear while in the other drive position it takes off in 1st. It's weird to me that second gear would act differently in each position.

    • @SuperKONR
      @SuperKONR ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Krankie_V Yeah it's weird, when it starts off in 2nd, it's fine. But in the other position it starts in 1st, then it flares to the moon and then hits 3rd like 2nd is burned out. It could just be gunk in the valve body but considering that it's supposed to be a closed system, that's likely going to mean a rebuild anyways. It's supposed to have bronze friction discs instead of paper lined clutches, pretty interesting.

      They are the factory pistons 9.3:1 compression ratio

    sounds like it has a real tall gear in it like 2.76 or 3.08, if you put a 2500 stall and a 3.73 gear in it i think that it would wake it up for sure

    I just bought a 70' F-100 long bed with a 390 big block. Only 22 and dont much about cars but my mom knows quite a bit from her muscle car days. Any suggestions on if I should raise the truck, or ad spacers for when I wanna go mudding? I live out in the mountainous desert with lots of dirt and mud hills so theres no way I'd want to ride that low, even tho I love Lowrider mini trucks. I need to hall wood and landscaping equipment..

      My Damn Channel it handles about how you would expect a 50 year old pickup to handle. body rolls in turns, steering feels a little loose, suspension is soft. however, I've always been able to keep it on the road- even in a panic skid where I really thought I was gonna lose it.

    Is it hard to drive without power steering difficult? I am thinking about buying a 68 ranger but it doesn’t have power steering. Is it stupid that might be a deal breaker for me? I love the sound of the 390’s so it is probably worth it anyway.

    • @Krankie_V
      @Krankie_V  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hayden Foutz it's definitely more work to steer.
      Note that these old trucks are easily converted. The steering boxes are all pretty much the same and still available to buy remanufactured units. It's not hard to find a power steering pump either, and the mounting brackets and pulleys can be bought secondhand. The toughest part would be finding a set of hoses that fit but I bet that's not really hard either.

    Hey man, what's the valve train setup, and beside springs did you have to do anything to the stock heads to accommodate that much lift?

    • @Krankie_V
      @Krankie_V  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      At the moment it has stock rocker shafts and such but I feel like it's straining them too much. It needs a roller rocker setup.
      All that was done to the heads is hardened valve seats, new exhaust valves, and valve guides. The heads were machined around the valve guides to accept the double valve springs and new positive valve stem seals.
      You probably shouldn't ask for my advice or go by what I've done here though, because I don't really know what I'm doing as far as engine building goes, and my work is definitely not done the "right" way.

    352 360 and 390 were available for that year they all looked identical if its original you can tell by the VIN number or you have to run a bunch of other numbers off the block that sounds like the 352 I had in my 67 the 352 had a different sound it was higher compression I remember when I put enough timing in it for it to really be Snappy it was hard to start when it was hot

      Krankie V yeah they had them in the big cars that's what I meant by they were available it's so hard to tell if you get one used sometimes what somebody put together I remember putting industrial truck heads and closing the extra exhaust on a 390 then I found a 360 but it had dish top pistons then had the bright idea of putting those heads on it and it would barely run the compresion was so low I tried some crazy things with those before there was any internet to help and nobody knew anything other than just try it
