- From 1991: Gabrielle Medina (Fiona Hutchison) in her final scene on One Life to Live for her first run on the show from 1987 to 1991. She returned to Llanview years later after her character served a prison sentence of contempt for failure to testify against Carlo Hesser. It was during this time away from OLTL that Hutchison portrayed Jenna Bradshaw on Guiding Light.
I began watching OLTL in the summer of 1989 because my family moved to Tennessee from the UK and I was out in the country where I only had 2 channels (ABC and PBS). I fell in love with Gabrielle as she was absolutely gorgeous and the British accent was so sexy. When she came back in 2001 I was so happy.
Gabrielle will always be my favorite!!! daytime complex character ever!!!!!!

She was the mother F’n bomb!!! One of Daytimes best characters created. OLTL lost that something only she could bring to the show when she left. Her and Tina were bomb together, but once Gabrielle left so did an era ☹️ love love loved this character ❤️❤️❤️
@CarlD2 So true about Gabrielle. After Fiona left in 1991, there was a gigantic void in the show that took a very long time to fill. But her 2001 return turned out to be a total train wreck. Pairing Gabrielle with Bo in 2002 made no sense since they had no history together. They were probably one of OLTL's dullest duos. Of course, the worst mistake was killing her off in 2004 as part of that forgettable serial killer story. Like you said, what a waste of a brilliant character.

Gabrielle and Max should of rode off into the sunset together. I hate they they killed off Gabrielle and Al. Bo and Gabrielle were boring.
Gabrielle and Max defined what firery passion is!!! These 2 were a match and a striker!!! I learned what passion was watching these 2 when I was just a kid!! After getting into the show an learning all the characters!! These 2 were my favorites!! Thank u James Depavia and Fiona Hutchinson!! You two were the best!! Y'all made the Soaps Soap!!
OLTL lost its way with the departures of Andrea Evans, James DePaiva and Fiona Hutchinson. The writing on the show deteriorated by that point.
You ain't kidding! I've been currently viewing the time directly after her departure and it is rough! Everything from Lucky soaking sapphires in milk, to Brenda and Sheila partying it up in hawaii, what a void!
One last dramatic flourish before she left.
What a waste of a brilliant character who had basically carried OLTL at some points. Fiona was incomparable in this role and the shoddy treatment afforded to her and later Andrea Evans are the biggest signs of how far the show and ABC have fallen.
Fiona is one of my favorite actresses. Amazing. I never saw Gabrielle's final scenes, This is so wonderful. Thank you~

I loved Max and Gabrielle! Soaps just aren't what they used to be..I find myself looking more back to these old episodes more than anything else.The music is fantastic.

I never saw Fiona in this role. I was a CBS daytime watcher. I only got to know her as the Amazing Jenna Bradshaw on Guiding Light. A role she originated very soon after this. Funny enough, I see her as Jenna here too.
I had this episode on VHS for so long....I loved this couple.

nyc78 Yep. That was obviously when James left and they had the storyline that Max got seriously burnt and had to get a new face. This actor didn't portray Max even remotely close to DePaiva. At least he wound up coming back later on.

I missed Gabrielle when she left, but I don't blame her for leaving Llanview.
Several people, including most of the Buchanan clique, treated her horribly.

All of these years later I want to acknowledge Michel Camilo and Score productions for these beautiful background scores- OLTL had the best background music of all time (next to Y&R)... 1:40- its just stunning work and made every scene so much better-
Wonder did he ever release the score? That gabby theme is everything. I see he has music on apple music… I want to contact him I want that theme for my wedding

@amylh322 no she really was stalked. OLTL was not to blame for her departure. They are however to blame for both of Fiona's two firings and Andrea's 2008 exit.
Andrea's 2008 return was only to be a short term visit. The sad part was not having her have scenes with characters like Bo, Viki and Dorian who she knew well previously
This wasn't the final episode. Her final scene was with Erika Slezak. Hair up Blue Silk blouse giving a final salute to Llanfair.

This wasn't her final scene period because she returned in 2001 , but unfortunately, she was killed off by a serial killer in 2004 , but she did make one final return in 2012 , during the 2 week finale event , when several Lianveiw villlans escape from prison to breed one final act of terror and several Lianveiw favorites did not survive and Gabrielle return as an angel , to help Nora and Bo , when the villlianous Troy McGiver was after them and Gabrielle came to them after Bo was shot trying to save Nora , anyway that was Gabrielle's final scene

So sad. Fiona left WAY too soon, but at the same time, she went out on TOP, leaving us wanting more. Why did she leave (in 1991)? I don't know what she is doing currently, but what she accomplished at OLTL in the short time between 87-91 is worth more than what some daytime actresses have achieved in decades of acting in daytime. Was burnout (see above)

ABC froze budget on nearly all daytime contract re-negotiations during this time. Basically, they wouldn't be paying her any more money on her renewal vs. what she'd already been making. She felt (rightfully) that she offered more value to the show, and she decided to leave.
Soon after leaving here she joined my favorite soap Guiding Light as one of my favorite characters Jenna Bradshaw.

@romanseano847 wow I didn't know that. Do u know why they froze the budget at that time? I'd heard a rumor that sorta sounds like it goes w/ oltl being cheap. Basically they tried to take advantage that Fiona was going through a divorce & thought they could low ball her to capatalize on re signing her cheap. What a mistake. Also a missed opportunity b/c they then offered jdp a fortune to return as max. I recall hearing of his return which was heavily promoted & thinking ugh I waited to see max & gabs paired & we got them as a full blown couple for a week. Right b4 their wedding he was presumed dead w/ a really botched story to transition this recast which was also not a good recast for max. I think jdps charisma paired w/ the larger than life character & 80s decade were perfect. Max worked so well b/c he was paired w/ 3 great leading ladies really the best u could have in Andrea Fiona & Jessica tuck. Fiona really sold gabs obsession & longing for max & be a family w/ al that it just made max that much more a big draw. A leading male lead gets stronger when a really dynamic leading lady really sells how desirable that character is. I really wished the 2 could have gotten the chance as a couple & family for awhile. I know their were plans to bring Fiona back in 1997 she had several talks w/ oltl after she left GL but she doesn't even know why they fell through. Her return in 01 I think was too late & what they did w/ the max character was already horrible totally ruining him to the point of no return by 01. They did a really bad job w/ max & Gabrielle & then pairing her w/ bo was even worse. At least when they let jdp go in 03 they really should have had Gabrielle ride off w/ max back to Argentina where their story began. I really liked that's how max went out. He didn't get killed off or just vanish but it was at least a dignified goodbye. Gabrielle dying next to a toilet from some serial killer was such an insult & it seemed done so bo could grieve. Gabs was killed off the next year so why not have let them go together. Oltl really was horrible again when they hired jfp who demolished the show then in the 2000s it was a Sci fi campy insane back from the deads after decades & characters history ruined then rewrites to undo them just insulted the audience. Too bad the show had to get cancelled to finally bring back favorite legacy characters to close out the show. I was so much more interested in seeing Andrea & John back where tina & cord get their happy ending complete w/ calling their kids. Seeing Gabrielle megan & luna all looking amazing as angels in one episode was better than Years of watching some of the newer 2000s characters.
This was a horrible replacement of Max...no one can play this character like James Depaiva 😒

@CarlD2 - I agree, and i haven't found anything on the web about what i thought was the reason Andrea left. Wasn't there some (real-life) stalker situation and she felt she would not be safe if she were on TV? What a horrible thing, i hope i didn't remember it right.

She was sentenced already and this was in between her leaving court receiving her sentence and before going to prison.
God, that Max was awful.

I don't know. She was so megapopular. I don't know what they were trying to do but both times it happened, it caused some real major dips to the show in ratings which put the show on shaky ground(bad enough because of Andrea's departure, and Jensen and Jessica's dismissals. But I don't know if it was those two choices to leave. Agh, OLTL got itself into a fine mess in the 90's.
Jessica Tuck and Jensen Buchanan both chose to leave.
@@romanseano , Jensen Buchanan wanted to return to the show, but the new writers Malone/Gottilieb were not interested.
@@renealexander2703 Linda Gottlieb was a very detached EP when it came to talent. She didn't know who she was, and wasn't yet familiar enough with her own show to care who or what Jensen was talking about.

porro913 I think it was just called "Gabrielle's theme." It played often in her scenes throughout her first tenure on the show (1987-1991). It was also considered her love theme with Max, though. There were actually three versions of it.

This actor was on Capitol, the political soap opera he was better suited there...He was a awful Max on OLTL 😒

Melissa Turner he was a very good actor he just wasn't fit to play the boy toy type of character that suited James so well.
