My mother was a similar type of narcissistic mother...looked great from the outside, but in fact was clingy, without a trace of empathy for her children, controlling, suffocating, triangulating with her gifts, cooking and other things she did for other. You payed her gift and so called care heavily.
i had that kind of mother, too. When "look at everything I did for you" becomes part of the conversation, you're in the presence of narcissism. My Mom was a covert narc, always the victim, always helpless, ready to blubber and scold you for depending on her. And my job was to be her therapist, when I was a child.
I love in one of her videos how she's like "Children might be better educated about abuse, but that doesn't make them certified to diagnose abuse." And it's like, lady, your daughter didn't need a certified diagnoses to get the fuck away from you. Everyone on the Internet knows why her daughter left within a minute of hearing her talk. And is equally gleeful that this woman is actively demonstrating narcissism in real time while being completely unaware. This was very in depth, thank you!
I am a rejected mom. I follow stories on both perspectives (i was abused growing up, but I did not estrange my parents and family). I just sat through half of door mat mom’s interview on Tomi Lahren. I read some of the comments. If I could speak to the people commenting, I’d tell them that as a rejected mom, I can empathize far more with their rejecting kids than with them. Door mat mom is dreadful and does not speak for all rejected parents. Calling her estranged adult child a brat and an ungrateful b**tard is weird and gross. She comes across as judgmental, harsh, controlling, manipulative, lacking accountability, angry, self-righteous, selfish, authoritarian, and unloving. Hee take on estrangement is lacking in empathy a d wildly self-focused and self-absorbed. I think her voice is harming rejected parents and estranging adult children alike, and risks making things worse. In short, she is the ick, and I see why her kid cut her off. Speaking as a rejected mom (and as someone who should have had stronger boundaries with her own abusers).
