Thanks to all of you watching. I hope you enjoyed the review and as ever if you like what you saw please do feel free to sub to the channel. I can also be found on twitter @maltbox and Instagram @maltboxwhisky. Looking back I probably should have cut the water drinking scenes so apologies for that!
Great comparison, Andy. I find myself agreeing with your conclusion: there'll be times when you want the 5 and other times when you'll prefer the 10. It depends on the day and what suits at the time. So the best idea is to have both on hand. I think the reason I like the 10 so much is that it's a pure ex-bourbon cask maturation which definitely helps with those citrus, honeyed and salty maritime notes. That's what makes it a classic. The 5yo on the other hand has a delicious nose but, like you, I find it's solid on the palate without being overly smoky, so it doesn't quite live up to the promise of that gorgeous nose. But it's good drinking for a 5 year old peated dram. Everyone in the UK must feel a bit cheesed off having to wait so long for its local release. Here in Germany it's been on the market for a couple of months now and the first batch has sold out. If Ardbeg genuinely want this to be part of the core range, they'll have to manage their supply chain a little better, in my opinion. I'll give them praise for the release and of course for the big number "5" on the label, that's great, but if we're supposed to be able to buy it all year round - like its big brother, the TEN - then they'll have to do some better planning. Cheers.
Thanks Russell, exactly. There's a dram for every mood and occasion so the Beastie definitely fits into the drinking calendar easily. Thanks for watching as always 👍
Great review as always. As I’ve mentioned I’m really enjoying the Wee Beastie , whereas I will never be without a bottle of the 10 ( my favourite core entry a Islay). Huge kudos for having the balls to put out a 5 year old 👍
Talk about self control to have that and managing to keep it closed for another 6 hours. Really good stuff Andy, and the review wasn’t half bad either 😉👌. Cheers
The only problem with the Wee Beastie, albeit somewhat timorous, is it's availability... One case made it to this island and it was sold according to some arcane electronic lottery... I was number 74 in line according to that lottery so I didn't stand a chance of even seeing a bottle of this juice...
Totally agree. Many (not all) countries in Europe have had the bottling for weeks as have some areas of the US. The fact that its only recently become available in the UK, in limited quantities as things stand, is bewildering, Covid aside.
Thanks, Andy for this fine review. Great that you've compared the two. Gives me a good idea whether or not (read: yes) I will try to lay my hand on the WB.
Just getting into whisky and I do prefer the smoke flavours like laphroaig , off to Tesco to buy a wee beastie today thought I should start with that one before moving onto the 10! Love the reviews 👍🏼🥃
Hi Brian and thanks for watching. The distribution of this whisky has been bizarre. It must be frustrating for you given your location.. so close yet so far!
Nice review and I completely agree about not letting others try to dictate how you should drink whiskey. I have a feeling I know who you're referring to 🤣👍
Just bought the Wee Beastie as my first Ardbeg, can’t wait to open the bottle! I don’t have an Ardbeg Ten to compare but I’ll be curious to compare it to a Ledaig 10 I have (my only other heavily peated scotch I have at the moment). Great review Andy, cheers!
You have sold the beastie to me (even if I did want it before hand) but I’ll be holding off until it hits my local specialist. Great comparison review.
Excellent review and I'm pleased to get a Brit doing it at long last. The availability is an absolute pile of shite in Britain. When it finally arrived in the country it is made, and after the entire world had reviewed it, a few places had some - '1 bottle per person' and was gone within hours. The allocation must have been pitiful. It truly sucks how appallingly Ardbeg treats the British market. I've almost given up on them and I don't really care if I get a bottle or not. It's not any big deal putting a 5 year age statement on a whisky because there are plenty of quality peated NAS whiskys out there and most experienced drinkers can make an accurate guess how old they are. There might be some older stuff in the WB but how much older? Nevertheless, I'm sure it's a good dram but, by heavens, the hype over a 5 year old whisky. I'll admit that I have a profound soft spot for Ardbeg 10. It's often my travel retail choice (1 litre) when I go on holiday. It's the best choice and great value and I have drunk it in the most sensational places in Italy and Spain. Sorry for going on. All the best. WT
Don't apologise my friend. I'd add there are fantastic young age statement releases from independent bottlers also. Carn Mor Caol Ilas being a prime example. The distribution was bizarre! Thanks for watching

Availability is completely crap in Britain as well. Ardbeg suck!

Thanks for watching!
Great video as ever. What about seeing how the wee beastie faces up to big brother Oog in a sherry stand off?
Hi andy , looking forward to trying the wb after waiting 3 months to get my hands on 1 , i live on the west coast of scotland !!!

I couldn't possibly comment Barry...
Thank you for the great comparison, it's very helpful. I'm adding the beastie to my watchlist. Cheers!

Great comparison Andy. Maybe the beast part is it’s a beast for something so young?!

Slightly miffed Andrex Puppy 🐶 🤣
Thank you very much my friend and thanks for watching. Glad you enjoyed
Great comparision👍🏻
Thanks for watching my friend much appreciated
Great comparison Andy I haven't had Ardbeg yet so maybe the beastie could be a good intro maybe?? Cheers
Definitely Leejay. Give it a whirl
Nice one Andy! Amazon sold out fast but I found an independent whisky shop with some stock - can't wait to crack it open when it arrives.
Hi Sean mate, great shout. Would much rather support an indie retailer than Bezos
Never tried the 10 but thought the 5 wasn't really peaty

@@MaltBoxWhisky Yes, I was sipping that Carn Mor Caol Ila 7 when I wrote my rant. Very good indeed.
