Hi there, I had a Portuguese attorney tell me this month that even though I have been married to a Portuguese born citizen for over 30 years, I still need to take the Ciple A2 test. She said that is required by the Government. I know that in your video dated Jan. 2022, you said that is now recently NOT required. Can you please confirm if it is or isn't in Sept. 2024? Thank you so much!
@@LisaMFelix I’m not a lawyer, but from my experience with my students 99% sure you don’t need to take the test, especially since you have been married for so long. I suggest you join some Facebook groups like about the topic and reach out to a new lawyer.

I know this law changed quite recently since one of my students took the exam and was informed she no longer needed it. I found this that might be helpful. washingtondc.embaixadaportugal.mne.gov.pt/en/consular-services/consular-services/acquisition-of-portuguese-nationality-through-marriage while you can apply for Portuguese citizenship after 3 years of marriage (in that case it seems like you need to take the CIPLE) but after 5years it's no longer needed.

@@JimmyDecadent if you are studying Portuguese, I would highly recommend you take it anyway. It's always helpful to keep you motivated and you can use that as a qualification for your resume (and impress your Portuguese family members lol).
This so frustrating. I’ve been married to a Portuguese national for 14 years and spoke to 2 solicitors. Both said I need to take the exam although one was wrong (they had yet to bring in the requirement) and the other one now seems to be wrong (exempt after 5 years). I guess I’ll just book an appointment at the embassy and find out myself. I’ll let you know in this chat.

Yes! Any current A2 Portuguese workbook will cover all the grammar you need to know. For verbs you will need to know present tense, PPS, imperfect, imperative, estar a + infinitive and ir +infinitive. We do a lot of CIPLE prep if you need any help!
One last question Mam, since I am from India (Goa) we have exam centre at my place, If I gave exam and pass with good marks, can I apply for Portuguese citizenship?

Hi! I would always recommend you be advised by a lawyer or with the consulate. It is my understanding that if you have been married for over 5 years the exam is not a requirement any more.

Keep working on it and find strategies to cut words. We teach several in our classes. You do lose points if you go over.

Hi! If you live abroad you need to check the dates of the exams. But if a country only has the may and November , each falls in a different semester.

The CIPLE can be taken in many cities in Portugal and in about 35 countries. You can check the list on the CAPLE website.
