    You know I cannot understand why these cars did not get the recognition they deserved they were actually a pretty good looking car I special like the white and blue and the black and gold versions but with the 302 in them they become a real nice little car

      SIMPLE! Because they tried to advertise them as the "trans am killer" lol. THIS car is so SLOWWW. 0-60 in 9.8 seconds LOL.
      The 1973 trans am (5 years older than this car in the video) did 0-60 in 5.0 seconds. CLEARLY this car wasn't killing any trans am and ford knew this thats why they only made 4,000 of these cars. Ford should've stopped making mustangs all together in 1978 though. I mean you look on youtube and 99% of the time mustangs lose races. haha. Just buy a #blackwing and call it a day. 🤪😎

      Well I mean they were made in the middle of the oil crisis and made to compete with foreign cars that had better gas mileage 😅. This car single handedly saved the mustang name. And the 1973 mustang spanked the 73 trans am. Just saying

      I like the graphics on the King Cobra, but 140 hp out of 302 V8 is pathetic. Possibly the slowest and most underpowered V8 Mustang ever.

      @@EliteOnTheBeat Uh, no...your numbers are way off. And, in 1978 an automatic Trans Am could barely beat 10 seconds 0-60. The W72 TA was a bit faster. The MII had 13" tires and 300ft/lbs of torque...educate yourself.

    Wow. A real car. Beautiful lines, beautiful sounding carbureted engine, manual transmission, clean uncluttered dash with no damned "infotainment" center, manual windows, and by far the best of all, it has standard size wheels with actual tires on them. RWL tires at that. It doesn't get much better than that. No computer in this baby.

    I'm glad you chose this car. perhaps the millennial generation will appreciate this car as much as it needs to be appreciated. I have some notes, however.
    If you look at the engine you should instantly know that somebody has pulled the original EPA restricted 2 barrel intake off the car and put a 4 barrel intake and carburetor on it.
    Just that simple change alone to a Mustang II back in 1978 would have given it 40 more horsepower and had that 5.0 engine up to at least a 180 horsepower.
    Chances are this motor has been bored out a little bit and rebuilt to modern specs and the heads have been replaced. If the heads weren't replaced, I guarantee they were ported and polished.
    I'd be willing to bet that this car has more horsepower in it then the Mustang GTs that followed it.
    Probably an example of a 250 horsepower engine with tons of torque. Ford easily could have built those motors that way back in the day, but the problem was the fuel crisis made them restrict their engines.
    That said, with an original V8 Mustang 2, you could get a delightful amount of torque out of them and zoom down the road pretty quickly, once you got rolling past 45.
    I've driven plenty of these cars with a stock 140hp 302 in them and though they don't explode out of the hole from from zero to 60, from 45 to 100 they pull really nice.
    They're built far better then the 64 1/2 through 73 Mustangs as far as fit and finish as well as insulation and body tightness.
    The design seems stiffer and the chassis is much more quiet.
    As far as how they look, that's up to your taste. I'm a huge fan of the Mustang II though not a big fan of the Ghia design. The plain coupes are beautiful and reminiscent of the original cars and the hatchback with a tail is a good looking car, especially with the T-tops.
    A hatchback Mustang II without the whale tail looks incomplete.
    Overall, these are amazing 70's cars that never got their due, but seem to be much more appreciated today.

      That 2.8L was well built It featured a solid Cam and lifter and gear drive Instead of the standard timing chain. For its day very high Tech. 139 horsepower V8 in a 2400 pound car wasn't that badd . Combined with 13 and wheels and A355 gear ratio in the ford 8" rear end was a very sporty car. A forgotten Mustangii is the limited run of the mach1 it had adjustable front suspension. Blacked out tail light panel and mach1 badges on the left and right the last one until 2003.

It ran very hot under the hood and it had a problem with overheating the transmission to the point I had to install a supplemental transmission cooler. The smog requirements also did not allow for a 4 speed transmission.

    I love simple cars of the 70s and 80s. To this day I'd rather have a car like this than any modern car, for multiple reasons.
    The Mustang-II was a little before my time so I never saw them much when I was old enough to care, and never knew anybody who owned one. I only knew them as the red headed stepchild of Mustangs everybody liked to make fun of.
    Well, I've started driving a simulation of this car in Assetto Corsa and I'm having a lot of fun with it. I spent hours working on lap times in this thing - I like it. I just wish it sounded as good in the game as it does here.

      The early Fox Body stangs shared many interior componets with the Mustang 2 as well. They were closer to the MK2 than most want to admit. If it were not for this unloved little pony, the mustang would be religated to the history books. It may not be the fastest or the best looking, but it is a Mustang none the less. It's sad that these cars have almost been forgotten about.

    I have a black & orange '78 KC 4 speed with 37,110 miles and im the original owner. The center console and map light were optional and my speedo only goes to 88mph. Some models did come with a 120mph speedo, I believe those were leftovers from '77.The GVW of mine is 2654 lbs. according to the tag inside the door. In the early 80's I built a 66' 289 hipo that was bored .040 and cammed and a little head work and now has more than 420hp and this little F'r screams. The car still looks completely factory right down to the 13" tires and the 3.08 rear gear. Ive cooked 440 Six Pack Supper Bee Roadrunners, 944S and 928 Poreche, Corvettes, Trans Am's, Camaro's. I want to put a 9" ford rear end with 4.11 gears and see how it reacts with that but I will have to tie the frame for sure then cause now I'm twisting the body at the seams. My sister use to drive a 70' Hemi Cuda with a stick and when I let her take my KC for a ride she sez it's like driving a high powered go kart on rails. It was fun to drive and very responsive with the stock 302 2bbl that came in it but now its a freaken blast and a head turner. One of these days I will take to the drag strip and see what it will do and I would also like to road course it as well cause it handles so well.

    Its a great looking car. To me, more so than the next 2 generations of the Mustang. Just needed to get rid of the King Cobra crap that junked it up. The 302 as pitiful as it was gave you the basics that you could work with. Many people dump on the performance cars of the late 70's and early 80's but Detroit gave you the basics to work with. You don't have to go nuts. Just throw on some bolt ons and away you go. I know of one Mustang 11 that it very quick just because it was the right blend of bolt ons.

    I had a 1974 Mustang II Mach 1 with the V6, 4 speed. They waited until 1975 to put a V8 in them. I had a great time in it. You just have to consider what was going on in the 70's to appreciate it.
    The fuel crisis hit just barely before the Mustang II was introduced and it sold fabulously. The fastback, coupe and Ghia were available and they slaughtered GM in sales compared to the Camaro and Firebird. That was a major reason that GM didn't stop making their pony cars, too much pride to let Ford win. The fox bodies were the Mustang that signaled the return to performance in around 82 as I recall. I'd like to have another one.

      Couple hundred dollars plus some elbow grease can bump it to 250 HP... a little more to 350 HP... This one looks like it could have dual quads...

      don't let that turn you off. I have basically the same version of the 302 in my 73 torino and it actually runs pretty good in that. I did swap out the 2.79 rear gears in favor of some 3.55's, with dual exhaust the car can get out and move relatively well and light the tires up easily. I am swappin it out for a 351cj cleveland but until then, the little 302 would surprise you.

      This is the mid to late 70s when these cars were built aka the "malaise era." Safety and fuel economy regulations, along with the 1973 Arab oil embargo nearly killed off performance cars in general. The recovery didn't begin until the early 80s. Ford was nearly run into the ground by poor sales, bad car designs, and losing near one billion dollars in one year.

      I read somewhere that they changed how they "rated" a car's horsepower around the time this thing came out. It's a little less than the generation before, but not as much as the numbers would indicate.

    Funny to see how much the American Muscle Car took a step back during the mid to late 70's with a few exceptions while at that time, Australia was producing what are now considered quite classical cars, especially comparing Ford's, in 1978 Ford Australia gave us the Ford Falcon XC Cobra Coupe and it was only produced in the 300-500 range with a 5.8 Liter engine. I know which one I would prefer of the two. www.whichcar.com.au/features/ford-falcon-xc-cobra

      Also consider that the Aussies didn't give up on the Cleveland engine design and the longitudinal rear wheel drive vehicle drivetrain architecture. I myself am not sold on the transverse drivetrain configuration, had too many transmission failures to believe in this type of drivetrain layout.

    • @dand3975
      @dand3975 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's just a Hurst t handle. The stock transmission in the mustang II was internal linkage. Hurst made a internal linkage device called the Hurst swifter. It was not possible to add a Hurst Competition Plus or Super shifter to that transmission.

      The stock axles and wheel hubs on the Mustang II were 4 bolt. Other than the factory aluminum honeycomb wheels their were very few aftermarket wheels would work. The Factory tires were 13" so the car was very limited to change tire sizes.

    I had a '77 Cobra II and I loved it, but anyone who has owned one and says it was a good car is lying. It had the formula and potential to be a good car, but I could list 100 major engineering and quality flaws that made it one of the worst vehicles ever produced. Even so, nostalgia caused me to buy another one and when I sit in it, it makes me smile.

      The 4 speed transmission was to weak for the 2 bbl 302 it needed a Borg Warner Super T10 or Ford Top loader from factory. It was a light car, driving it just felt cheep compared to a same year base model Camaro or Firebird. Suspension was Pinto, steering was vauge. Very quick 0 To 45mph with 4 speed. The 13" wheels and tires were way to small and narrow for this car to ever have great cornering. Al in all for 1978 it was a cool car.

      UB3R_M4X1MU5 They were good cars. First aside from Pinto to get rack and pinion steering. The low horsepower and their arrival in 74 at the end of the muscle car era with no V8 option gave them a bad reputation.

    • @andrewbartleman9169
      @andrewbartleman9169 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      UB3R_M4X1MU5 look at the Era they came out in, low compression, fuel crisis and emissions came on strong. Back then they couldn't make a performance yet emissions friendly car. The fox body in 87 was the first 5.0 ho that had some bite and also was emission friendly with 220 crank net hp and 300 ft lbs torque

  • @DL30Creations
    @DL30Creations 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Well if you put all year model mustangs side by side the 74-78 Mustang 2 resembles the original 60s mustangs better than the crap they make now. Also compare all late 70s cars and the Mustangs still looked their part while most other pony cars went bye-bye in 1974 because of the oil crisis. So yes I will agree the 75-78 Mustang did save the namesake as well as saving Ford but for lacking balls under the hood then they were the only one trying to show a pair as well.
