Thanks James. I found your video really interesting. I have just collected my X100VI after pre-ordering on the 28th Feb and already I love it. I agree with your recommendations and have already fitted a soft release button, SmallRig thumb grip, tempered glass screen protector and weather-sealing kit. I use Peak Design anchors and straps on all my cameras and I don't mind the anchors hanging on them. The only thing extra I have added is a SmallRig grip. Funnily enough I was looking for a small pouch for the camera and the Tenba you showed looks just right so I have now ordered one. Many thanks.
@@timgatz4219 I preordered 2/20 @0900 from B&H. Hope to receive my camera this year. Good luck with that. Glad I own other cameras to use until the VI arrives or I cancel the order. Mask On Nurse Marty (Ret)
It’s evident that you’ve had a lot of experience with this camera and its accessories. By far the best accessory video I’ve come across. you nailed it with the recommendations and explanations👏🏻 thank you, so helpful!!
Great list. Thank for this. Just a heads up - the lens hood will throw a shadow if you use the flash. Also JJC makes a thin thumb grip that works well with the X100VI.
This is why I got the round lens hood style. It doesn’t look sexy, but it doesn’t cast a shadow. 😅 The round lens hood works with the stock lens cap too!
The Thumb grip from smallrig is far better than the one you‘ve shown. Every button is easily accessible and the dial is located under the grip rather than next to it as with your grip. Also, I can highly recommend the Everyday filter by PolarPro in the 1/4 strength. It‘s a 2-in-1 filter combining a polarizer and a mist filter.
Love the video! Can’t wait to get my X100VI and try out some of these accessories. One alternative to the leather neck strap with PD anchors for those outside the UK is Clever Supply Co, it is a bit more expensive but very solid and popular strap here in the US.
Very useful. Two other great accessories are the Fuji case. Expensive but beautifully made and I keep the bottom half on as basic protection. The small rig L shaped handle (aluminium grip) is superbly comfortable and protects the base of the camera. As a Canon DSLR and M5 user, I find the thin grip of the VI a little too slippery, even with a thumb grip. Fear of a drop….. Finally, I agree on the peak design red attachments. I only keep one on the left hand side now for the PD cuff as on the right it just gets in the way of many control dial. However, it’s easy to add back on when I want a full PD strap. I do like the look of your alternative.
Love Woodgate straps. I have a couple, one leather, one rope, and both are of very good quality. Also, Nathan will make custom tweaks for you if asked and doable on his side. Lastly, I’m in Canada, so they do ship outside of the UK, but not sure which other countries.
On close up shots with the Nisi filter and hood combo does the lens make contact with the glass on the nisi filter mount? I've heard that might be an issue?
Hi James, what about issues raised on Amazon regarding Hood and UV filter, which seems to be just too close to the camera lens itself and because of this you will get a ‘focus error’ message that freezes your camera whenever an object being focused on is too close to you. This is quite a serious fault as it has the potential to damage your camera lens. Can you pls share your point of view?
Hey! I’ve heard of people having issues, there are different versions of the hood floating around, I can only vouch for the one I linked originally which doesn’t seem to be sold by NiSi any more. I’ve used my particular one for over a year with no focus issues.
Sorry for the question maybe i missed it but do you need the filter adapter from Fuji to attatch the filter and lenshood from Nisi? And is it possible to attatch the hood on, if you have for example a cinebloom filter on it? Thanks in advance =)
The esthetic of the camera is beautiful, and as you are saying it at11:34 min: the peak design red ankers destroy the esthetic of the camera. I dont know why a lot of youtubers dont mention it. Or simply they arent aware of this fact?
@@JamesReader I tried it but ended up returning because the hood was just too loose. There should be a locking mechanism on the adapter ring. As is, just sliding on the hood wasn’t secure enough for my use. It fell off with a flick. Maybe I got a bad one it wasn’t as secure as what you displayed in the video.
Hi. Thanks so much for the info. Great video and great ideas. I ordered a Long Weekend Pouch for my X1006. But alas it won't fit now that I have fitted a Nisi UHD UV Filter Hood on mine and ordered the Smallrig L-Shaped Grip. It just fits with the Nisi Hood but only just! Definitely won't squeeze in with the Smallrig Grip attached as well. I like the Tenba V2 4 pouch you look at here. It's hard for me to tell if there is any room in there! Can you tell me if there mine with those accessories would fit in your Tenba pouch please. It's hard to go by their dimension online as you can't tell if there is any stretch room as such. Cheers and thanks for the video!
Hey Brett! The Tenba pouch is quite a snug fit with the X100 6 and the NiSi hood attached, which is to be fair what I was looking for in a pouch dedicated to protecting the camera in a backpack. I haven't got the Smallrig L shaped grip to confirm for sure but I feel that it would probably fit (again quite snugly) Do you have a link to the exact L grip you have? I'll try and order it and find out for you if it fits.
Thank you for your suggestions! But unfortunately my NISI lens hood didn't work out like yours. I put them on, took a few shots. Then 'Focus error' warning appealed. I had to reboot the camera to fix it. Is anyone else here having this problem? I suspect when the lens touch the UV filter inside the hood causing the problem.
Oh really? I haven’t had this issue at all, there should be plenty of space between the lens and the UV filter. If you want to email me a photo of the camera with the hood on I’ll see if I can help.
I need help here! I saw a comment on Amazon that the square Nisi lense hood here, originally designed for x100v, had a tiny gap and doesn’t actually fit the x100vi? What was your experience? Thanks
Thank you! The overshirt is from Reiss called the "Liam Wool Blend Brushed Overshirt". Bought it a long time ago though so can't promise it will be easy to find!
Sorry for the random question but would the Tenba Skyline v2 Pouch 4 - Black have enough room for the camera and the genuine Fujifilm round lens hood on, or would it need to be disconnected?
@@JamesReader The hardshell case. I managed to tetris it in with some planning, but there is a good amount of pressure applied to the front of the lens cap when it was closed. Trying to figure out if this is safe or not. What gear was on your lens when you packed it away?

Hey have they stopped selling the lens hood? I clicked the link and it's not there :(
Great video! Quick Q: Does the X100VI fit in that Tenba pouch with the lens hood on?
Thank you! It does fit but is quite a tight fit.
Peak Design sells all black anchors also. I hate those red ones. They sell them on Amazon.
Any issue with the filter spacing on the adapter for the Nisi Hood? Does it screw in fine without a gap?
