I am not a fan of having to block attacks and wait through all the DLC bosses, but they hit for thousands and dont stop wheeling around broken-feeling hitboxes for seconds at time, it becomes a boring tightrope walk button timing exercise. if I wanted to play a rhythym game, I fucking well would play one.
I had to make my own strat that when the fight starts i take a left and run behind the wall so he charges into the wall and gets stuck. Then i summon mimic tear. Once he breaks the corner he wont hit you so run to the other side of the wall and drink estus. He will charge that wall whic gives time for your mimic to wake up and aggro him
After trying a few times dodging that charge, I thought "fuck it" and just used vow of indomitable on dueling shield. There are a few other easy solutions that I can think of as well. Raptor of the mists or bloodhound step should work. Even light roll probably will be manageable to roll through the charge. Discounting that, boss is not that bad overall, imo.
deflecting hardtear made this fight feel like Gyobu from Sekiro. you can deflect mostly everything in his arsenal minus the gravity AOE, then just look for the combo ender to guard boost. i hated this fight too until i tried that, now its one of my favorites. Currently fighting Messemer with the same strat and having a blast learning the movesets. Very rewarding. Also NG+2
@sizzlinjalapeno There is no reason not to enjoy fighting him because he was a tough mini boss that reminded me of the tree sentinel when i first fought him
i hate this boss. i was doing so well going through everything with 10 vit and 80 int and 60 faith on my caster but this boss is going to force me to larval because of its BS
Knight's lighting spear for normal windows, ancient dragons lighting strike for stance breaks or big openings absolutely melted this guy. Took me like 2 hours of attempts to figure out he was very weak to these lightning incants.

solid build, have you tried the Romina spear, I find it very underwhelming and I have 80 Arcane
I do a blood rapier instead and add the stamina plus 3 talisman and rotten sword talisman.

I fought him with bloodhound step and had a great time - up there with loretta for me, but I can see where other would hate that move.

I used a keen rusted iron mace with the new savage iron claw, big dex bleed bonk. Got him on my 3rd attempt today

Dude, I started the DLC on NG+5, and god, this boss seems doable now! Je takes over half of my health in 1 hit even WITH the HP rune

yea at this point i just use beast claws with what ever element needed ash of war blood hound step cause im never gonna have perfect rolls
