Lana Del Rey, to me, is one of the last gems in the current music industry. No one treats their music like art anymore. Her lyrics touch your soul. They tap into your deepest and darkest fantasies. I'm probably one of the only men who has a deep passion for her music. It's just so... mesmerizing. Every song- whether it's "Kinda Out of Luck" or "Damn You" or something from Born To Die- is so fucking amazing. She can make murder sound glamorous. She, literally, has changed my view on life. What a sexy, inspirational woman she is. Can not wait 'til "Ultraviolence" ! I know that it'll be another masterpiece.

    • @ThePlectr
      @ThePlectr 10 ปีที่แล้ว +20

Just loud words.. What does "changed my view on life" means? You stopped drinking? You became more careful? The only argument I found in your words is - she is sexy, so what can she teach you only with her sexuality?

    • @christinakozikopoulou9195
      @christinakozikopoulou9195 10 ปีที่แล้ว +111

ThePlectr I found Pretty Little Liars ' opinion well-stated. Firstly, I'd say that you under-estimated the power of the argument ''she is sexy''. Being confident and aware of your body and sexuality (especially in the genuine way that Lana is) is extremely important in living a healthy life and boosts your self-esteem. But other than that, as stated, Lana treats music like art and her lyrics and music are deep. She helps you connect with your fantasies, love yourself and overcome taboos. She changed my view of life as well as many other people's because she inspired me and helped me accept myself and express freely. She is a beautiful and unique person (on the inside and outside) and the message her music transfers about life is profound and philosophical. I believe that it is clear to see, but, of course, my opinion is as objective as any other.

Almost 10 years later and this still gives me goosebumps. Absolutely phenomenal art. Depicting Adam and Eve, eating the forbidden fruit, reincarnating into sinners as a stripper and Adam as a criminal thief, repenting, and their after life in peace. Stunning. Hands down her best work.

YES!! I miss her making visuals like this. In recent years her best visual works were the videos of Chemtrails Over The Country Club and Fuck It, I Love You / The Greatest. But nothing compares to Tropico, Ride, Born To Die, Blue Jeans, National Anthem... the aesthetic and visuals of these works are out of this world.

"10 years later" - so this is circa 2013? There's no doubt she is an auteur in full command of her talents. She has a hot support squad of movie makers here too. I wonder how involved with the editing she is? My guess is very. 💃🚀😍🎇

    Plot:
    Chapter 1 - Body Electric.
The movie starts out with the original Adam (portrayed by Shaun Ross) and Eve (portrayed by Lana Del Rey) in the Garden of Eden. God (portrayed by a John Wayne character), Jesus, Marilyn Monroe, and Elvis Presley are all present with Adam and Eve- as "Body Electric" begins to play. The whole movie is intercut with scenes of Del Rey playing Jesus' mother Mary. At the end of the song, Eve - tempted by the snake - decides to eat an apple from Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. After she eats it, thunder strikes and she faints. Adam then decides to eat from the apple as well in order to join his lover. As a result of this, they are cast out of their "Paradise", the Garden of Eden.
    Chapter 2 - Gods & Monsters.
Del Rey then starts to recite Walt Whitman's "I Sing the Body Electric" as time flash forwards to a modern-day Adam and Eve living in Los Angeles; Del Rey works as a stripper while Ross is a gang member who also works as a clerk at a convenience store during the day. There is a reference to their "Paradise" in the convenience store, as there is a sign that says "El Paraiso" or "The Paradise". In this segment - "Gods & Monsters" begins to play. After the song ends, Del Rey recites Allen Ginsberg's "Howl" as a group of wealthy middle aged men are seen surprising their friend on his birthday by bringing him strippers. A couple of minutes after the strippers enter the room, Ross and his gang suddenly show up with guns in hand and steal all their money.
    Chapter 3 - Bel Air.
God appears and begins to narrate John Mitchum's poem "Why I Love America" ("You ask me why I love her? Well, give me time. I'll explain. Have you seen a Kansas sunset, or an Arizona rain?"). The Adam and Eve characters then get in their car and end up driving to a country-side wheat field. Clips show the pair being baptised as they begin to undress. "Bel Air" then plays in the sunset. The two characters then ascend back into heaven, having finally redeemed themselves, as flying saucers appear in the sky.

When Lana falls it's not just her fainting, but also touching on that part of the Bible which is known as 'The Fall'. Where God (or in this case John's) trust is broken with humans. This short movie is a masterpiece. I love how it also perfectly shows what lots of people believe the fruit from the tree symbolises which is sex. and how in Gods and Monsters it shows a corrupt world that has been driven on this sinful, unholy temptation. The impulses. The animal instincts. At the end it’s “Bel Air”. They remove their black garments in exchange for white, which symbolises purity, and there are cuts into what is a baptism, cleansing the sin and washing it away to start anew, re-appreciating the beauty of the earth that they took for granted before and then ascending to heaven.
    -
after watching it several times it's actually genius and is totally the classic Lana aesthetic.

    • @ariabramowitz8923

I don’t think that’s quite right. The proverbial Adam & Eve were sharing in sex before the Fall. Indeed, Elvis, Marilyn, and John Wayne all seemed to be cheering it on. That sex was pure and beautiful. It was explicitly only after biting the apple (getting “too close” to God, as Lana’s voiceover puts it) that takes them out of the Garden of Eden and into the Garden of Evil. It’s the biting of “knowledge”-knowledge of cynicism, corruption, degradation, greed, cruelty, rapaciousness, etc-that sends this Adam & Eve to bleak human reality. The Apple. Knowledge. Not sex.

When this was first released, I was 12 years old. I remember staying up late on the couch downstairs to watch it. My parents were in the middle of an awful divorce- my mom left us, I used to listen to Lana and looked to her as a sort of mother figure in the absence of my own mother. To this day, when I find myself overwhelmed or upset, I turn to Lana’s music (the music videos especially) to help me feel better. I don’t know why I felt the need to comment this, but here I am.

This is a work of art, a masterpiece, whatever you believe or believe in, however you feel, art is supposed to make you uncomfortable make you think....each person who looks at a Painting sees something different, feels different feels, sometimes it makes you angry or cry.....art is interpretive, and that's the beauty of it...
There is no right or wrong it's not black and white, and so the magic of a true artist can be timeless like the Mona Lisa. Centuries later people still speculate and wonder, it's an enigma. Lana has so many sides, so many genres, and continues to intrigue and inspire. It's poetry, it's emotional, an artist must create, they don't need to be understood it just is.......Beautiful, terrifying, strange, fantasy, vision dreams, she gives motion to the words, sight to the invisible thoughts that flutter and tear through our minds.... yet rarely pass our lips for fear of being judged. What is normal? Is a dream reality, or our reality merely dreams? Thank you Lana for just letting it out, and not holding back. It doesn't define who we are, it just allows us to flow those energies and feelings through ~We don't have to agree, we don't have to understand, "life imitates art" yet art imitates life.

We sat and waited in line for hours. Lana came around 6pm on a red carpet, I got so close to her I could touch her. My best friend gave her a note and Lana gave her a kiss on the cheek. When we finally got into the theater, Lana came out and made a cute little speech. She did this for every viewing. After the last show, she went outside and signed autographs. This woman knows every dream and hope I have ever had... She knows my deepest, darkest secrets and we've never even met.... I have never been so captured by a person like I am with Lana Del Rey... Her music isn't just amazing and it goes beyond therapy.... She speaks to something stuck so deep inside of me and I come alive... I feel so connected, wild and free, like I know myself.... every song... The way a human being was meant to feel.... I don't stop listening...

      *****
yeah, the way i perceive her stuffs is that she sees the beauty in every ugly things, every negativity, it's like she has come to an acceptance of the ugly truth, so then she appreciates things as they are, she's not trying to fix our ugly bits of the society/world, she accept and live it all instead, and that's probably why she claimed to not have any interest in feminism, but intergalactic stuff and perhaps other things that human do not actually have much knowledge of. she studied metaphysics afteral.

Elvis is my daddy, Marilyn’s my mother,
    Jesus is my bestest friend.
We don’t need nobody 'cause we got each other,
    Or at least I pretend
We get down every Friday night
Dancin’ and grindin’ in the pale moonlight
Grand Ole Opry, we're feelin’ alright
Mary prays the rosary for my broken mind
    (So don't worry about)
    I sing the body electric
I sing the body electric, baby
    I sing the body electric
    I sing the body electric
    Sing the body electric
    Sing the body electric
I’m on fire, sing that body electric
Whitman is my daddy, Monaco’s my mother
    Diamonds are my bestest friend
Heaven is my baby, suicide’s her father
    Opulence is the end
We get down every Friday night
Dancin’ and grindin’ in the pale moonlight
Grand Ole Opry, we're feelin’ alright
Mary prays the rosary for my broken mind
    (So don't worry about)

I sing the body electric, baby
    I sing the body electric
    I sing the body electric
    Sing the body electric
    Sing the body electric
I’m on fire, sing that body electric
My clothes still smell like you,
And all the photographs say, that we’re still young.
    I pretend I’m not hurt,
I go about the world like I’m havin’ fun.
We get crazy every Friday night,
I drop it like it’s hot in the pale moonlight.
Grand Ole Opry, feelin' all right
Mary's swayin’ softly, to her heart's delight
    I sing the body electric
I sing the body electric, baby
    I sing the body electric

    [Dialogue]
In the land of Gods and Monsters
    I was an Angel
Living in the garden of evil
Screwed up, scared, doing anything that I needed
    Shining like a fiery beacon
You got that medicine I need
Fame, Liquor, Love give it to me slowly
Put your hands on my waist, do it softly
Me and God, we don't get along so now I sing
No one's gonna take my soul away
    I'm living like Jim Morrison
Headed towards a fucked up holiday
Motel sprees sprees and I'm singing
'Fuck yeah give it to me this is heaven, what I truly
    Want'
    It's innocence lost
    Innocence lost
In the land of Gods and Monsters
    I was an Angel
    Looking to get fucked hard
Like a groupie incognito posing as a real singer
    Life imitates art
You got that medicine I need
Dope, shoot it up, straight to the heart please
I don't really wanna know what's good for me
God's dead, I said 'baby that's alright with me'
No one's gonna take my soul away
    I'm living like Jim Morrison
Headed towards a fucked up holiday
Motel sprees sprees and I'm singing
'Fuck yeah give it to me this is heaven, what I truly
    Want'
    It's innocence lost
    Innocence lost
When you talk it's like a movie and you're making me
    Crazy
    Cause life imitates art
If I get a little prettier can I be your baby?
You tell me, "life isn't that hard"
No one's gonna take my soul away
    I'm living like Jim Morrison
Headed towards a fucked up holiday
Motel sprees sprees and I'm singing
'Fuck yeah give it to me this is heaven, what I truly
    Want'
    It's innocence lost
    Innocence lost
    [Dialogue]
Gargoyles standing at the front of your gate.
Trying to tell me to wait,
But I can’t wait to see you.
So I run like I'm mad to heaven's door.
    I don't wanna be bad,
I won't cheat you no more.
Roses, Bel Air, take me there,
I've been waiting to meet you.
    Palm trees in the light,
I can sleep late at night
Darling, I'm waiting to greet you,
    Come to me, baby.
Spotlight, bad baby, you've got a flair
For the violentest kind of love anywhere out there
Mon amour, sweet child of mine,
    You're divine.
    Didn't anyone ever tell you
    It's OK to shine?
Roses, Bel Air, take me there,
I've been waiting to meet you.
    Palm trees in the light,
I can sleep late at night.
Darling, I'm waiting to greet you,
    Come to me, baby.
Don't be afraid of me, don't be ashamed.
Walk in the way of my soft resurrection.
Idol of roses, iconic soul. I know your name.
Lead me to war with your brilliant direction.
Roses, Bel Air, take me there,
I've been waiting to meet you.
    Palm trees in the light,
I can sleep late at night.
Darling, I'm waiting to greet you,
    Come to me, baby
Roses, Bel Air, take me there
I've been waiting to meet you

    [Intro: Storyteller]
    And the spirit of John moved upon the face of the waters;
    And John said "Let there be light" and there was light;
And John saw that it was good
    [Interlude 1: Lana Del Rey]
Dear John forgive us our sins, dear John forgive us our sins
Dear John forgive us our sins, dear John forgive us our sins
Dear John forgive us our sins, dear John forgive us our sins
Dear John forgive us our sins, dear John forgive us for our sins
Creator of all forgive us our sins, dear John forgive us our sins
Dear John forgive us our sins
    Thank you God
[Interlude 2: John Wayne, Elvis Presley, Marilyn Monroe & Jesus]
    I wanna tell you where you're at, you lose me in this campsite, and I'm gonna teach you how to be cowboys;
Now, if you wanna be tough cowboys I don't wanna hear ya' crying, I don't wanna hear ya' bellyaching, you gotta get on that horse and ride; (And I guess I'll never find you)
And don't be afraid, wear your boats up high, your pant low; (Sex is a part of nature, I go along with the nature)
with your head in a good way, (You're always on my mind, you're always on my mind)
And when you get on there don't be jerkin' on it, just ride nice and soft
You can do it; (Earth is missing, distant from us)
I believe in ya', ride with the wind, (Oh I must have you, or no one) (Forgive us, distant...)
don't complain and never say you're sorry, sorry is a sign of weakness, (Forgive us intense, please forgive those distant...)
I don't want you go back to your mama because I'll run you back out (And lead us not into temptation) (I want you to kiss me) (I love you)
You're a good kid, all you lil' cowboy will do a good job for me
make sure you do it children, 'cause I'll be watching you
(Life can change on a dime, sometimes you just have to gain) (Yeah baby, that's what it is, that is what is all about) (Amen)
Don't forget, I'll write to your mama (I don't lie)
    [Body Electric]
    (Noooo)
[Interlude 3: Lana Del Rey & Elvis Presley]
    I sing the Body electric;
    The armies of those I love engirt me, and I engirt them;
They will not let me off till I go with them, respond to them, (Man you've got to be crazy!)
And discorrupt them, and charge them full with the charge of the Soul
    [Interlude 4: Lana Del Rey]
Womanhood, and all that is woman - and the man that comes from woman
The womb, the tits, nipples, breast-milk, tears, laughter, weeping, love-looks, love-perturbations and rising
    The voice, articulation
    Language
    Whispering, shouting aloud
Food, drink, pulse, digestion, sweat, sleep
Walking, swimming, poise on the hips
Leaping, reclining, embracing, arm-curving and tightening
The continual changes of the flex of the mouth
    And around the eyes
The skin, the sun-burnt shade, freckles, hair
The curious sympathy one feels, when feeling with the hand the naked meat of the body
The circling rivers, the breath, and breathing it in and out
The beauty of the waist, and thence of the hips, and thence downward toward the knees
The thin red jellies within you or within me - the bones and the marrow in the bones
    The exquisite realization of health;
Oh I say, these are not the parts and poems of the Body only, but of the Soul
Oh I say now, these are the Soul!
    [Gods and Monsters]
(Oh I must have you, or no one)
[Spoken 1: Lana Del Rey & Shaun Ross]
    - "You know it's not always gonna be this way, right?"
    - "Yeah.."
    - "So just chill, alright?"
    - "Mhmm"
    - "Alright.."
    - "Yeah."
(Just remember, I'm always there for ya')
    [Dialog: Birthday Party w/ Strippers]
In honor of Jack's birthday tonight, I thought bring somebody here tonight that Jack can jack off to. (Laughs)
No, with seriousness, are you ready? Ladies...
(All the money, feel my temperature rising)
    [Interlude 5: Lana Del Rey]
I saw the best minds of my generation destroyed by madness, starving hysterical naked
Dragging themselves through the negro streets at dawn looking for an angry fix
Angel-headed hipsters burning for the ancient heavenly connection to the starry dynamo in the machinery of night
Who poverty and tatters and hollow-eyed and high sat up smoking in the supernatural darkness of cold-water flats floating across the tops of cities contemplating jazz
Who bared their brains to Heaven under the El and saw Mohammedan angels staggering on tenement roofs illuminated
Who passed through universities with radiant cool eyes hallucinating Arkansas and Blake-light tragedy among the scholars of war
Who were expelled from the academies for crazy & publishing obscene odes on the windows of the skull
Who cowered in unshaven rooms in underwear, burning their money in wastebaskets and listening to the Terror through the wall
Who got busted in their pubic beards returning through Laredo with a belt of marijuana for New York
Who ate fire in paint hotels or drank turpentine in Paradise Alley, death, or purgatoried their torsos night after night
With dreams, with drugs, with waking nightmares
    [Robbery]
And so, from being created in his likeness, to being banished for wanting to be too much like him, we were cast out, and the garden of Eden transformed in to the garden of Evil
Los Angeles, The city of Angels, A land of Gods and Monsters, The in-between realm where only the choices made from your free will, will decide your souls final fate
Some poets called it the entrance to the Underworld, but on some summer nights, it could feel like Paradise, Paradise Lost
[Interlude 1 - Variation: Lana Del Rey]
Dear John forgive us our sins, dear John forgive us our sins
Master of the Universe, creator of all forgive us our sins
Dear John forgive us our sins, dear John
    [Spoken 2: John Wayne]
You ask me why I love her? Well give me time, I'll explain
Have you ever seen a Kansas sunset or an Arizona rain?
Have you ever drifted on a bayou down Louisiana way?
Or watched a cold fog come drifting in over San Francisco Bay?
Have you heard a bobwhite calling in the Carolina pines
Or heard the bellow of a diesel at the Appalachia mines?
Does the call of Niagara thrill you when you hear her waters roar?
Or do you look with awe and wonder, Massachusetts shore
Brave new men who stepped on Plymounth's rock?
And do you think of them when you stroll along a New York City dock?
Have you seen a snowflake drifting in the Rockies, way up high?
Or seen the sun come blazing down from a bright Nevada sky?
Do you hail to the Columbia as she rushes to the sea
Or bow your head at Gettysburg at our struggle to be free?
You ask me why I love her? I've got a million reasons why:
It's my beautiful America, beneath God's wide, wide sky
    [Bel Air]
    [Instrumental Outro]

Clearly only someone who knows the darkest struggles of the soul could create something that so efficiently and creatively embodies the equally euphoric and yet excruciating moments of true reflection on ones hedonistic rebellion. Such a beautiful work of art to share with the ones who feel its grasp the most. Thank you for this.

    intro: Storyteller]
    And the spirit of John moved upon the face of the waters;
    And John said "Let there be light" and there was light;
    I wanna tell you where you're at, you lose me in this campsite, and I'm gonna teach you how to be cowboys;
    I sing the Body electric;
    The armies of those I love engirt me, and I engirt them;
They will not let me off till I go with them, respond to them, (Man you've got to be crazy!)
And discorrupt them, and charge them full with the charge of the Soul
    [Interlude 4: Lana Del Rey]
Womanhood, and all that is woman - and the man that comes from woman
The womb, the tits, nipples, breast-milk, tears, laughter, weeping, love-looks, love-perturbations and rising
    The voice, articulation
    Language
    Whispering, shouting aloud
Food, drink, pulse, digestion, sweat, sleep
Walking, swimming, poise on the hips
Leaping, reclining, embracing, arm-curving and tightening
The continual changes of the flex of the mouth
    And around the eyes
The skin, the sun-burnt shade, freckles, hair
The curious sympathy one feels, when feeling with the hand the naked meat of the body
The circling rivers, the breath, and breathing it in and out
The beauty of the waist, and thence of the hips, and thence downward toward the knees
The thin red jellies within you or within me - the bones and the marrow in the bones
    The exquisite realization of health;

Lana is a talented writer. She enjoys film and writing for the love of writing. Poetry. Why do people have to makes some huge debate about satanism or Christianity. Why can't we just say it's lana's poetic words in film. Poetry doesn't always have to mean this huge things sometimes they are just beautiful words and phrases, thoughts strung together. People are sensitive now a days just take it as it is and move on with your life
