  • We've talked about lows, now we're going to talk about how to unlock your high screams! David talks about changing the starting point, working on your melodic range, and how to visualize your sound to "trick" your body into producing the sound you want!

I’m 12:51 seconds in, and honestly this has revolutionised and changed my view on high screams. Literally everything you’ve said so far has resonated so heavily particularly with feeling that “wall” or barrier between lows and highs. For years I’ve only been able to achieve mediocre low screams with the belief I’ll never be able to achieve a high scream without damaging my vocal chords. This video has given me so much confidence and the drive to learn and experiment with my voice within safe boundaries. Even just watching you hit the clean note and add the grit/distortion encouraged me to somewhat imitate and I can already both hear and feel the difference! Thank you so much \m/

Hey this is pretty awesome! I totally get that sound at 10:55 but it was an intentional choice for doing black metal, since that genre can be intentionally very thin and sharp. Kind of like a ghost, all essence, no body. I love the idea of choosing pitches to base your screams off of. When I was in the process of tracking guttural vocals, I'd do lots of warm-ups that involve sweeping from low to high in pitch without breaking (smoothing out that break), etc. Of course it's always great to grab onto these new extra techniques and thought patterns for approaching music (in every sense- theory to technique to production). Cheers mate, this has a lot of great information.

My lows and mid scream was fine but I'm struggling with my high scream so i thought that in order to get the high scream i did exactly same as the 7:28 part cause i thought by increasing the pitch from low to high pitch, i could figure out how does my vocal chords achieve the pitch by pushing more air to make my vocal chords more powerful to achieve the high pitch scream sound. Thankfully that i found this video in my searching to prove me that my technique was wrong and now i found a better and safer way than pushing and hurting my vocal chords.🤘🔥

the tip on hitting a target instead of going up or reaching helped me finally get out what feels like a real scream! I think i can only get a high silverstein sounding scream tho. and i don’t know if it’s absent of a note. But low screams seem hard to figure out tho still.

My favorite thing about ally genres of metal is the fact that the harder the band is it seems the more kind hearted the people are and it to this day makes me smile! People constantly thin “oh metal band those guys are probably dicks” but in all reality 99% of them are nicer than anyone you’re ever met in your life and I mean it makes perfect sense to me 🤷🏼 they’re not only doing what they love but anytime they’re angry for any reason they just sing into a Mike or scream or just chug away on their guitars or basses and boom all anger gone music is really just amazing and this video is amazing!! Because I’ve always thought my highs were all I had! They’re the ones I knew most about and they’ve always sounded decent to me but my lows took me a long time to get down but I could get them down to a science once I learned that what I was doing was fry screams I didn’t even know that fry’s could be low I always thought fry’s could only be high and I thought that’s just what people called super crazy high screams but once I learned that their were all these different names for all the ways I could scream it really opened a whole new adventure for me! My goal is to learn as much as possible and learn how to do every type of scream I can even if I can’t do them good! But mids have always been my weekness 😂 i never knew why until recently haha anyway this video was awesome and you’re amazing!!! And I love you!!!

That was undoubtedly the most intimately familiar, continuously enlightening, thorough explanation of anything I've ever heard under an hour!
And yet I'm no more successful than previously.
Now I sound more like Bart or Marge Simpson occasionally...
But you best believe I'll continue squawking while I've got the place to myself!!
*Shutup Siri, Alexa, Google, it isn't that funny!*
My growls are mean enough though.
