I'd say beamNG is my pick as soon the pace notes get implemented. It is less frustrating to make a mistake in beam because the crashes are so good.. but I think some of the RBR tracks will forever be king, especially on the pavement side of things
I have been playing a good mix of RBR and BeamNG for a few months now and to this day I’m unsure which I enjoy more. I don’t really mind RBR’s graphics and I can live with the slightly unoptimised performance of BeamNg. I too look forward to proper implementation of pacenotes and might start playing it more.
I don't suck half as much in other sims as i do on Beamng, but i will always come back to it just because the game makes mistakes seem completely harmless despite the wreck you leave behind being a ball of flaming steel compacted against a rock at 700mph 😂
@turbo_marc yeah but you need a lot of concentration to drive already and if you use FPV to play with a wheel it's esentially useless, at least that was my experience on a 32" monitor. I bet they're MAD weird with VR
as someone who played dirt rally 2 and ea WRC religiously, beamng rally is a great breath of fresh air. Having your front halfshaft break and make you understeer into a tree all because you hit a bump or curb wrong is almost satisfying even though you just ruined your possibly fast run. I cant wait for rally in beamng to evolve.
Very true. Trying to make it in one piece and making it a fast run are two things which are incredibly hard to pull off. The thrill is simply unmatched.
+1 for this! I know some people complain that some BeamNG cars (vanilla) are too fragile. Speaking from a lifetime of moderate daily driving to local autocross and rallycross, I feel like between the sim/rally choices, BeamNG makes me fear for my car much more like IRL. When an IRL spinout on a wet but otherwise normal pavement road curve at 25 mph (45 kph?) can cause $3000 damage and visibly camber a wheel from sideswiping a curb (as one of several personal examples), cars aren't that durable at some angles, at bicycle/faster speeds. I played the heck out of DR and DR2.0 (it helped indirectly prepare me for auto/rallycross later), Assetto Corsa, etc. I've never tried the more arcadey eye candy driving games. These games are all understandably intended to sell players a fantasy of being able to drive a car somewhat unsafely at high speeds. I have accidentally or deliberately yeeted my cars through corners and cuts that pinballed me hard, yet was still able to blithely carry on with my race with barely any steering damage. Not so in BeamNG. :D I can swap paint with other cars and guardrails. Ding some body panels, scrape off a bumper. I can even take a calculated gamble on driving straight over some smaller street curbs, gutters, or offroad corner shortcuts. But just like IRL, the game always forces me to seriously consider the calculus of reckless driving if my goal is to actually continue driving in a race.
@@dakaodo Fascinating. Perhaps rally cars aren't as fragile as beamNG's unofficial cars tend to be. Cherrier FCV for example. Even though it has a gravel and tarmac variant for rally, both tend to be overly fragile at times. But I do get the point, it is just using some base components and "rally" parts to make a version of said car, as opposed to having a proper purpose built rally car. I'm sure BeamNG devs can make this game into a proper rally sim.
I have about 840 hours in this game. Maybe about 600 of them are purely rallying. It's my favourite motorsport and I will never get tired of it. The point is, I have 350 hours in EA WRC, 220 hours in DiRT Rally, and about 348 hours in DiRT Rally 2.0. And yes, those games are brilliant and I really like them but Beam just feels different and in some ways, better. In fact, me and my friend are currently developing a full on rally event in BeamMP. It's not ready yet, but it will include thirteen rallies with 8-15 custom stages made by me per rally, one rally per week, with full on stage maps, custom race files and lots of other preparations. Basically we want to make a rally event in BeamNG as functional as possible. Will be fun to see if it works out how we want it to.
I don't have a lot of hours in this game as I heavily invested in Dirt rally 2.0 prior to my introduction to RBR and this beautiful thing. And I am in the same boat, I do like those games too, but BeamNG's deformation and random mechanical failures adds an extra layer of immersion which the masses aren't ready for yet. But I really wish to see a properly evolved beamNG rally system. I'm excited to see what you and your friend come up with. It's going to be legendary!
Jimmer had already said it before. Beam is currently the recipie for a rally masterpiece with it's great behaviour on low grip surfaces and extremely remarkable suspension behaviour. If the number of nodes on a tyre increases eventually it would also be a crazy improvement as it's the only area where i see slight flaws in handling and they're minor.
4:57 man I just missed the cutoff: I recently released "Custom Rally Pacenotes" and I bet you'd like it: I'm interested in what you think of the system and my pre recorded calls. Definitely open to feedback
I noticed that on the repository and thought you were collaborating with the devs 😂 guess it might be a good idea to ask for a job, they've hired modders before
BeamNG feels the most intuitive to drive out of all the sims, it's amazing. It has it's fair share of shortcomings though, the most unfortunate one being that multiplayer is only supported by mods (BeamMP). As an overall package I'd say that RBR (RSF) is still ahead, but Beam is definitely worth your time.
Dude!! Just found your channel. Your videos are so well paced and your content is incredibly engaging - I love your mentality behind sim racing as a whole. Can't wait to see what you make next!
Just beginning this adventure and have no point of reference at this time. This is second time I have heard about BeamNG in as many days. The first was through SleepyPants SimRacing yesterday and now on this channel. Personally I am looking for sims at this point as opposed to games. I love BeamNG. The recent career gameplay component pulled me back into it, and now the rally component may help convince me to stick around for a while. I got the game in 2016, and it's come a long way. BeamNG is starting to really come together as a driving game built from first principles, ground up. But its seat at the rally sim table is still a jumble of finely engineered wooden sticks assembled with precision and meticulous care. There are still a number of sim racing elements that BeamNG has only begun to dig into more, recently. The chair is still half-finished, but man, it's already amazing. Just think what it might achieve in another decade (at which point BeamNG in 2034 will be as old as RBR is today).
P.S. Does the RBR+mod set simulate mechanical components to some degree like BeamNG does? You made a good point about mechanical damage. Running a car with too much boost or otherwise putting too much demand too fast on the engine, breaking half shafts, cracking a radiator, oil leaks, fuel leaks, botching gear shifts, etc aree all things I've never had to worry about to this degree in other sim racing games.
@@dakaodo Yes, RSF RBR does take mechanical components into consideration. The steering rack forces are accounted in for ffb. Even though you can't see the damage visually, there's a lot of ways you can end your race in RBR. You can damage the suspension components just as easily in there, it's just a tad bit, let's say less fragile, as those components are tuned for rally. But ultimately, yes, damage scale is insanely brutal. You can over rev the engine, damage the clutch, lose a tyre, get a puncture, have your actuators damaged, or even your pump.
i have sunk a few hours now into beamng's dirt rally (the pessima in jungle track) and it is so unforgiving which is so nice. if you get a lot of airtime, good luck landing without damaging your vehicle. if you even slightly tap a tree, your car may snap in half. i like beamng more :)
That’s exactly the reason why I find it so appealing. The amount of patience and determination required to master or even be remotely decent at it is incredible. It kind of forces you to grow and develop skills which would be otherwise seen as unattainable.
