Yeah, he's like a person during a zombie apocalypse who has been infected and wants someone to kill him before it's too late because he's not able to do it. It's depressing when a person knows their only best outcome is to be killed.
And he still fights you anyway because he can't control his own powers, it's pretty sad... but also infuriating when you have to redo the whole Hell course...

The fact that three different, totally unique tracks play throughout the battle lends a LOT to the grandiose feeling of awe and success you get from fighting it. Not to mention, you just made it through hell, and you worked your butt off to save Curly and you just get saved by the FIRST boss in the game in a total heel turn? Amazing storytelling, compounded by impeccable game design. Cave Story is one of the greats, and let’s not forget it was originally COMPLETELY free (not to say it isn’t worth the $30 it costs today).

@@thedeadweight5726 Actually I think the whole reason he was trying to pull the island down was so he could kill himself. And obviously in this battle we kill him so he's not immortal
TLDR: Ballos was killed physically but not spiritually. The ghost dog says that his out of control magic made it so he couldn't die, after the boss fight, before the walls start closing in, Ballos mentions that he is in pain despite not being physically present anymore, and this isn't just flavor text, Curly reacts to it BEFORE noticing the walls, also, Balrog doesn't say "You killed Ballos, right?" He only says beat, not killed, implying that Balrog is aware that Ballos cannot die, and on a musical note, the song that plays when the walls close in is 'Zombie' the same song that plays when the red crystal infused spirit of the doctor appears to initiate the Undead Core fight.
I'm supposed to be rescuing my best friend, but this one evil wizard keeps kicking my ass. I'm other words, I can not beat him. At least, not in his fourth form.
Some people said that was the EASIEST, all u gotta do is use a rocket booster, get on his head, shoot some bats, get some hp, exp, maybe some missle ammo, get back down and keep shooting. get alot of hp for the next phase
Ballos is pretty easy. Getting to him is extremely hard. I used this strategy to beat him: Stage 1 - The Machinegun when he's on the ground. When he goes airborne and shoots lightning, I constantly sidestep to avoid them, while spamming Curly's Nemesis. If you do that, almost every bullet will hit him, and thanks to that you can focus on avoiding his lightning. Stage 2 - Using the Booster to fly under him. When he stops jumping, I boost myself on a little platform next to his eye with the Blade, spam the button for around a second and jump down. One attack session like that will take down around 15% of his health, even if the Blade is on Level 1. Stage 3 - Basically, the same strategy as with form 1 - focusing on dodging his projectiles and spamming Curly's Nemesis into the air. Stage 4 - Ignore all the damage, jump on the little platform right next to his eye, spam Super Missiles, and pray he dies quicker than you.
Actually, I found a better strategy for Phase 4 if you're using the Machine Gun. Lv3 Machine Gun is a must. The strategy is hovering above Ballos by shooting downwards in the air. That way, majority of the arrows should miss you, and you can still damage Ballos at the same time. If you use the Spur, he's a joke.
He is afraid of Pain for his experiences. He WANNA DIE but he is afraid of Pain. Thats why he have to be killed by a warrior. His instincts make him want to fight back.
Which is better Blade or Nemesis? I say blade, sure it has low range, but it's powerful and doesn't get weaker when leveled up it kills many bosses easily, like Puu Black, Monster X, Balrog, both Core fights, and is pretty good against Ballos's second and third phase
