Merry Christmas Rich. On this truck 5.7L/7.4L check the purple wire at the starter motor. These had a habit of rubbing through the (+) battery cable. This causes the starter to engage while the truck sits, and you swear someone is stealing it at 0300a. had this happen to two of my trucks. The cure is to repair the damaged wire or insulate it to prevent it from happening.

    • @om617yota8

@@om617yota8 Yep, my one ton 7.4 did this and so did my 1500. Purple wire on my 7.4 rotted with the main cable due to heat. Same with my 5.7. Very oddly it happens when cold. Your engine just starts to crank. The first time it happened, I called the police thinking someone was stealing my truck. It was a big laugh when.police showed up and saw the issue. Said my truck was haunted, Lol.

Where I live, a Silverado that nice would easily cost double what you paid for it, and everything you did to that truck combined. I want your "serious financial trouble" shirt, but I'm so dam deep in debt that I can't afford to buy one, and BTW, I wear a 3X. 😂🤣 A really great source of not only parts for your 55 Chevy, including a hood and glass, but also information about it, would be Rick from TH-cam channel "Classic Truck Rescue". Best part of contacting him, is that he's not far from where you're working on this truck, he lives in Oregon, and I know that he's always glad to ship parts to his customers. Great video!!! I can't wait to see this old beast back on the road!!!

Definitely put an om606 in something smaller than the k2500. The 606 would move it no problem but it would defeat the purpose taking that diesel that can make good power and watching it all get robbed by weight. Also, look into older merc diesels. Like the 3.5L om603, or the 3L om617 5 cylinder. Those are great engines, purely mechanical unlike the 606

What cool episode! Merry Christmas! Stay safe and warm. I agree though on the "trouble light". They should have marketed it as a maintenance light instead. And have the commercial showing the person using the light to check the oil at night and checking tire pressures at night. Call it a maintenance light instead and the perception changes.

When I was a little kid my father had a 1957; pretty much the same except for the grille. Back then (about 1971 or 1972) it had massive rust holes in the floorboards and the fenders were gone above the headlights. In the snowy/road-salted northeast 1955-1959 "Task Force/Blue Chip" GM trucks are all gone, except for a few museum pieces that were used somewhere else.
