- Have you ever had a problem with the line guide on your baitcaster getting stuck? There are a few common problems that can cause this such as a dirty/dry baitcaster, a worn out worm gear, or a damaged pawl. The pawl was the culprit on my reel and I wanted to share with you how I diagnosed the problem and changed it out. If you love taking things apart to find out how they work, you'll enjoy this

Your the man you just saved me from throwing a 45 dollar reel in the water 45 may not be alot to some but I've got a 6 month old at home so money doesn't come easy and it was only 2 months old so that would have hurt for sure

Now thats a handy danndy tip. I reckon a reel strip-n-clean video is a stella idea.What with the long winter evenings I might even buy me an old reel, give her some TLC then take it out in the spring for some feeeesh! Very helpful man this was literally my problem I bought I used baitcaster and it was doing this too me thank you very much now I know got to fix it up and not trash the whole reel

Great video. My Paul (didnt know what it was called) had some dirt inside the column. After simple cleaning after knowing how, it works great again.

Reel maintenance is something every fishing person should know how to do, just like everyone who owns a car should at least know how to change the oil, even if they don't do it themselves, they should at least know how. Hey, how about a maintenance demonstration on a spinning reel also?

I used my brother's Chinese reel that haven't been used for a while and after a few cast the line guide stop working after a cast. So I reeled in the line, ofc it was not good. So I went home and open it do some checking and oiled it. Seems working well but who knows when it will occur again.😉

I had major back surgery so I will have lots of time to get my gear in good shape before I can get out there. Doc says I should be able to shore fish stable ground by pre-spawn! He is going to help me get a handicapped pier tag and a car tag.
No boat action, or rough shore for at least a year but Thank God I should still be able to feesh!

I’m hoping you see this with a 2 year old vid but where are you getting replacement Pawls? I have a Lew’s speed reel with some sentimental value and I just ran into this issue recently with it. The reel is almost 10 years old and is still great besides this line guide issue.
My original BBN will sometimes lock up when I'm casting. It's old but barely used. I have others now.
Really helpful to me I too face same pawl problem with my casting reel. And same way while retiring my week's handle gets stuck just as u demonstrated with ur first reel. And with my second casting reel's thumbar is some time not getting engaged while retriving is there any video tips u can make why such problem happens. Last week only I cleaned my first and second casting reel. Please respond sir and make video it would be helpful to people like me. I m from India
I recently broke my black max, it was t working well, took it apart a bit and tried to fix it, ended up destroying it. I’m not that upset because I recently bought a shimano casitas and hoping that it’ll perform well. DEBO, Ik you’re big into kastking, but can you possibly try the piscifun torrent bait casting rod?? I got this baitcaster at a yardsale. It's like brand new but it has some things that make me wonder if it's broken or if it works like it does because that's how it's made. One thing is if you turndown the drag all the way then the spool will not spin at all. And also it does this thing where when you reel in some line and stop, when you stop the reel crank will be allowed to rotate backwards a 16th of a turn before it stops. My new baitcaster reels dont do either of these things. The reel with questionable features is a little old now it's a Shimano Bantam Crestfire. Have you ever heard of these problems?
*I used this to replace my old reel that is getting harder and harder to crank after being used **allabout.wiki/01fs** in one of the harshest environments for reels I've ever fished in. The Battle II has held up far better and longer, and the sealed bearings make a big difference. I think I've caught close to 50 fish with it already, and the drag has always been smooth. Great for fluorocarbon line!*

any way you could do a video on repairing a spincasting reel (the button kind) i got a old one from a family friend whose grandfather owned it, i cleaned it all up and took it apart to lube it up but the gears wont turn and the handle wont crank. it seems like the thread isnt spinning or catching the gear ?

Thanks. Can you tell me what the part would be called or how to fix it. It is a BB1 new generation. The thumb bar is not working and when I took it apart there is plastic piece that has broken that makes the thumb bar pop back up so you can press it again. Any help would be appreciated
That's exactly the problem with this kastking reel I have I've oiled the hell out of it and it makes it to where it doesn't lock up atleast. Where you get a new pawl?

So on my lews my line guide it’s self is like super wobbly! If I tighetened it up where the pawl is would that help make it more sturdy?! Plz answer I really don’t wanna break it lol
I bought an Abu Garcia Pro Max yesterday but it back spins like there is no brake some time it sticks like it wants to stop but most of the time it just back spins. What could be the cause?
Sounds like too much dirt/ oil on the anti-reverse bearing. Are you sure the drag is tightened down too?
Where did you get a replacement pawl for this old reel. I'm having the same issue with the same reel. Update: Stole one out of my old basspro reel and got er working.
Someone please help I’m new and I’m trying to figure this out I don’t know if this is my problem only because when I reel it moves back and forth just fine BUT it’s when I release and let the line come off is when it just stays in one place! How do I fix this??? Please and Thank you!

Yep, certainly sounds like it. Make sure debris is not stuck in the worm gear. Look at the teeth on each end and see if they are worn. May need to take the pawl out and check it too. Good luck man.

No, the sizes differ. I'd refer to your manual or call cabelas to get the correct size.

I don't know if it would fit, but you could have probably turned that pawl 180 degrees and it would have worked.

Don't over lube it will attract and hold dirt. Not good
Yea, too much is not a good thing. But so is too little. I err on the side of just a bit more than needed and wipe the excess. Great point to bring up!
