  • In this episode of Eurovision Histories, I review and summarize the 1967 Eurovision Song Contest with Sandie Shaw, Vicky Leandros, Minouche Barelli singing a song by Serge Gainsbourg and many more amazing artists and a host completely overwhelmed by the voting and scoreboard malfunctions.

    So sad to hear all those 'I'm soooo sorry's' throughout the voting from the host. Poor woman. My favourite Vicky Leandros. Glad she didn't win that year though, we may not have had the absolute gem that is Après toi. Entertaining & informative video as always! Looking forward to the last 2 reviews from the 60's 😊

    One moment of silence for Peter Horten, the austrian representative of 1967 who died just a few days before this video was released.
    But all in all a good video once again.

    I think I am one of those rare Eurovision fans who really likes the Monaco entry. Still love the Norwegian entry too. Another wonderful video and review of the contest. I agree with you that Ireland's entry was a real snoozefest. My heart goes out to the poor host having to deal with all that technical stuff going wrong - bet she needed a quiet dark room to lie in after that. Strangely the UK winner is one of those songs that goes up and down in my list of favourite winners, depending on how positive I'm feeling.

    Ladies singing about being dolls... puppets... wow. The 60s were a different time!
    I realize now why some of these songs are familiar to me, my Japanese mom was a huge fan of French cinema and music in her teens in 1960s Japan, she knows these names!
    Ty for this well-researched history.

    I'm always like "ah, I'm not too interested in the old contest, I'm gonna skip this video", but your videos are so entertaining that I really enjoyed this one! Good work, can't wait for the next one :)

    The real name of Vícky Léandros is Vasilikí Papathanasíou. The "Vicky" part is because a diminutive of Vasilikí in Greek could be Vícky. The "Léandros" part is after her father's FIRST name "Léandros". The real surname of both her father's and of hers is Papathanasíou. Being born on 23 of August 1949 makes her to be only 17 in the 1967 Contest. Because Eurovision 1967 took place on 8th of April.

    Musically it is one of the best editions and I adore the mirrors and the introduction, I don't like only the songs from Monaco and Luxembourg. And my favorites here are: Sweden, Germany, Ireland and Italy but the rest are fantastic too.
    Also, even as someone who does Previews of the older editions for new fans, I still learn a lot from this series, so Thank you.

    "And now I've seen everything." 🙃 Thanks for giving us '67 and for that bit of history regarding Salazar and Angola. Is there a clip available of Nascimento's performance?

    • @eurovisionhistories

      There is but the song is copyrighted (even a few seconds)

      @trevorcolas ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@eurovisionhistories Interesting that there are still copyright issues for that song. Is it hard to get clearances when you prepares these historic reviews?

      @trevorcolas TH-cam has a filter to find copyrigthed stuff. For short clips that I comment on this should fall under fair use but not in this case

    Ok ....re: Puppet's lyrics - in the 80s inspired by those Parent Advisory stickers making their appearance a popular music magazine called Smash Hits (which had the Pet Shop Boys Neil Tennant as a lead writer on it) did a survey to find what its readers thought were the most offensive songs produced and several Rolling Stones contemporary to it were called out for their sexism including Under My Thumb and Yesterday's Papers compared to them i dont think Puppet was actually that bad.

    If i remember correctly the reason why Östen Warnerbring didn't represent Sweden at Eurovision 1960 is because Siw Malmkvist was denied by SVT and the swedish radio channel in year before at the time, mainly because in 1959 Brita Borg was selected to represent Sweden in advance and the actual winner Siw Malmkvist didn't represent Sweden at Eurovision 1959 which i will never understand, and the same happened in 1960 Östen won but SVT and the swedish radio channel selected Siw Malmkvist, don't quote me on that though i only know this from wikipedia

    What a mess. I feel sorry for this poor host, honestly. All what went wrong wasn't her fault but she was clearly too nervous eventually which made things even worse.
    This добрый вечер, уважаемые телезрители reminds me something from my childhood...
    Edit: the voting system seems really strange to me. If every jury member gave just 1 point to their favourite entry, I'm surprised that only one song ended up with 0 points.

    • @eurovisionhistories
      @eurovisionhistories  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I don't understand how that voting system was supposed to ensure less countries got 0 points... more changes coming in the next editions ;)

    • @silencestation557
      @silencestation557 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@eurovisionhistories I was thinking the same. Imo, with this system, there's a possibility that maybe only about a half of the songs will get any points whatsoever. Luckily it didn't happen in this case. Looking forward to your next videos 😊.
