I find 1964 a rather underwhelming year for Eurvovision. Most songs leave me cold. Not the winner however, this is an absolute masterpiece. Delicate and innocent. Beautiful and moving. Set in its times and timeless. Just pure art. ❤ PS. Thanks for San Marino's jumpscare. That was funny
64 is a great example of "who else but her?" None of the others had that impact and that spellbinding affect that Non Ho L'eta had. It was sweet, simple, and beautiful. As you say, set in its times and timeless.
Absolutely love this winning song and Gigliola's song in 1974 is my all time favourite Eurovision song and I can safely say I was a teary person when I saw her perform this in Turin. I too go along with your latter interpretation as there have been too many creepy older men around over the years. So chuffed when the video of her reprise of the song was rediscovered recently. Another favourite winning song of mine.
It is worth listening to some of Gigliola's other recordings . She matured into a really fine singer. I remember being very moved when the audience sang along with her in 2022. She didn't need any fancy staging , but stood at the microphone , sang and drew the audience to her. In her later career she became a popular TV presenter and news anchor. Non ho l'eta is iconic , one of the truly great Italian songs as well as a Eurovision winner.
Hey! An Icelander here :) I actually thought that the winning song that year was Icelandic originally, because of the Icelandic version!! It’s called ‘Heyr mína bæn’ and translates to ‘Hear My Prayer’ 🩷

The first snippet of Oração I once heard reminded me so much of Delilah from Tom Jones that I can't get rid of this comparison even if the rest of the song sounds actually completely different.
Delilah is such a good song too. I love the 60s (and even more the 70s) too. Everything seemed more.simple but still great music. Barely anyone sang off key in those days

Lasse Mårtenson, who represented Finland, had also composed his own song. He also composed the song which represented Finland in 1967. But I think his greatest song was "Myrskyluodon Maija" (Stormskärs Maja), which was composed for a Finnish tv-series with the same name.

An interesting fact is that in later years (1977-80) the Sopot Festival changed its name to the Festival of Intervision and tried to be a socialist answer to the capitalist Eurovision. However, it did not gain much popularity and after 4 editions (all of them took place in Sopot, Poland) it was ended and the "ordinary" Sopot Festival returned.
I think Non ho l'étà could also be something a young girl could write for example in her diary about a teacher she is in love with. Like dreaming up a life with him but in an innocent way. It doesn't have to be problematic, they did a good job keeping that a little bit vague whether she is directly answering a man's question or if she is just professing this love of her own. I can listen to it without feeling uneasy, you can choose to hear it in a creepy way obviously but I think giving her the power and confidence to say no is actually quite telling of the intentions of the songwriter. To me personally the lyrics of 'our' song Jij bent mijn leven are way more problematic. With Anneke Grönloh saying outright she knows her man is cheating and lying and whatnot but she has no choice to stand by him because he is her life. That is very sad and unfortunately for a lot of married women in that time period (and in some parts of the world still today) very much a reality. I have always found the song deeply troubling because I think she would love nothing more than to leave the sorry bastard but she can't. I think Gigliola had a lot more autonomy than Anneke in the lyrics of their respective songs. I find both songs fascinating in that way. Also Non ho l'étà is sung beautifully. Simple but effective. In that field of songs absolutely the best by miles.
Or, she may be from a conservative family and is not allowed to date before she turns e.g. 18. She may like a boy (or girl) of a matching age, but is too young to be allowed dating.

Her interpretation and presentation are very sweet and pure, it counter balances any possible dark undertones. But I do think the intention behind the lyrics is a wholesome one so I agree with you there.
yes well when Gigliola sang it the first time she was very young so the lyrics were perfect for her age of course hearing her sing it now that she is over 70 is a bit funny saying she's too young to go out with the guy 🤣🤣🤣 anyway It remains one of the classical Italian songs for sure.
