    They are VERY rare here in the UK, (especially with the Atacama leather), you would maybe get an automatic for about £8k here, but a manual is harder to find and more money. That is £8k UK stirling, which right now is $10,161.99 so you got a real bargain there for just under $4k. Even if you spend the other $6k on restoring it, you at least know that those new bits you bought should be good for a while, whereas when you are buying any second hand car you are always a bit in the dark unless you have a mechanic friend you can take with you for advice. Great find for that money.

    Hi Gregson : ) You are kind, a great enthusiast, and I have 'liked' every one of your Volvo videos...and congrats on your FCP Euro sponsorship! But, could you work on having more content and less talk-repetition? For instance, you could do a video just on the wheels for this car (factory and then most enthusiast upgrades), same for brakes, tires, headlights,...engine history, types, upgrades,...etc. There are so many different, wonderful, niche topics you could cover. I LOVED the video where the 4C suspension was cut open! You could even do a video on FCP Euro - go visit the great folks at FCP Euro and interview them/tour their warehouse. But, of course, if most people like your videos just as they are, then I totally understand and appreciate your additions to the Volvo community as is : ) Thanks much!

      There's also IPD. Those guys make some great upgrades for these cars. why would he do just a video about the headlights on this car? they're glass and cost around 900 to replace. that's about all there is unless you know some secret that no one else does. if so, tell me this secret cause i have a s60r and 2 of every tool needed for this car.

      Agree 100%. How about some specifics?! Lot's of quirks... I guess they never made it to the note cards.
      Weak point in the P2 was generally the auto transmission, which had no filter, seemed to require a flush about every 40-50K miles, and seemed to have some bearing on the proneness of the ECU to start behaving erratically in hot weather. I'd love to know if that was also true for the -R, which I've never owned.

    FCP Euro sucks when it comes to customer service. I've ordered a full set of brakes - pads, rotors - for my 2004 XC70. I book the mechanic to replace them just to discover that the rear brakes were for a 740. So I had to get a rear set locally (I live in Canada). I've contacted them to return. They said sure, no problem. So I go back to the States to ship. When I receive my refund, it was for the brakes alone, minus the lube they have included. No return shipping label, no reply to emails, nothing like that. I was happy to get some change back. My mechanic told me about two other customers of his with the same problem. That's a shame. But I gladly use IPD for my Volvo needs. No complaints, whatsoever.

    • @89StarKiller
      @89StarKiller 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      FCP is literally the best customer service and I'm also from Canada. They forgot a gasket in my order and they said to buy it locally from the dealer and they not only refunded me the price I paid at the dealer but the price I paid. Top notch service.

  • @ShadowSTGarage

    I've looked on the forums about the engine in this car (B5254T4). It looks like the only limiting factor is the turbo. Being the turbo maxes out at 1.1bar or 16psi

    • @Honeypot-x9s
      @Honeypot-x9s 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cameron Murphy the limiting factor is probably the timing and the intake manifold and tubing on the turbo not being aggressive enough or strong enough and not holding boost very long.
      16 psi is actually pretty good if you can hold boost...
      More isn’t always better, more boost = more problems. More heat, and more wear and tear. And usually that’s the most common way to destroy an engine is with too much boost, it may run great back to back passes one day but then it just lets go when you least expect it not even running it hard.
      I rather personally run 14-16 psi and just replace the intake parts and set a very aggressive curve or even replace the turbo for a slightly smaller one that can still reach 16 psi, just to have it spool faster.

    • @ShadowSTGarage
      @ShadowSTGarage 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      meehhhe Of You I see what you mean. If your engine can't pull in air, the boost doesn't matter. I want to build a V70R one day so I'm trying to do as much research before I get the car. Knowing me I'll try to jump into it and end up way over my head

    • @Honeypot-x9s
      @Honeypot-x9s 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yea pretty much, that's where issues get created.. basically if making boost say 20 pounds of boost but engine isnt demanding 20 pounds, all you are doing is compressing that air into heat and shoving it into the engine which will do more harm than good. volvos are very unique in how they tuned up from the factory, and realistically, not much i personally would change from that. like i would probably lift the torque ceiling programmed into it from 6500rpm to 7500rpm, i would probably better intake manifold, and tubing, and reprogram the turbos curve and timings.. to be hones, not even sure i would want less turbo lag, that's sorta fun..coming out of nowhere on strong boost blasting past everyone just over took you thinking they got this in the bag..
      biggest issue i got is the lazy use of turbo that volvo has.. it really does not like to hold boost very long.. it builds up you can feel it spooling up as you floor it then it suddenly comes on boost and feels awesome, turbo lag can be real fun to play with. but after the boost comes in strong its then back to engine and not pulling as strong.. like where did all that just go..? 6500 rpm torque limit can be little annoying but not the worst. turbo lag is fun as hell...just needs to hold onto boost more once it sinks in strong

    Hey I’m thinking of buying a 6 speed manual (S60R) that looks in good condition all around and has about 130k miles for about $4000. How expensive are they to maintain? I don’t have that much more to spend so I’m wondering if it’s a good idea to go for. I really do hope it is because I love them so much. 😂

    • @ShiftingLanes
      @ShiftingLanes  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      100% not a smart idea. Expensive to maintain if you don’t do the work yourself. But, if you’re willing to live with the headaches, so so rewarding. If you don’t have much more to spend, but something reliable.

    • @martinl1427
      @martinl1427 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you buy a good piece, that has been well maintained and drive it with respect, there is not much to worry. But 4C suspension is expensive, also turbo, AWD system can cost a lot if something breaks.
      You never know how the previous owner treated the car and how good or bad state it's in even though he might have service history data. In case of 4000$ car, i would keep another 4k saved just in case (at least here in europe it would be enough to get everything in a good shape, no idea about US prices)
      But, when everything is fixed, only regular stuff like fluids, filters...
      No high revs and no strain on the engine while cold, after driving harder let it cool down a bit before turning off and you're good.
      Though, to have it cheaper, I'd rather get a S60 2.5T (T5) AWD, or just 2,5T FWD. no AWD and no 4C - much cheaper to maintain, but still drives nice and has more than enough power for sporty driving, better consumption than R. R is nice but 99% of people don't need it.
      Personally I have a 2,4 diesel XC90 and I'm a volvo fan. Getting in a volvo is just like home. No other car fits me better. If I had to choose another besides mine, it would be a P2 S60 or V70 with a petrol engine.
