  • Estrogen: The Good, the Bad and How It Relates to the Thyroid
My guest in this special episode is Dr. Felice Gersh. She received her medical degree from the USC School of Medicine, and studied Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Kaiser Hospital in Los Angeles. Dr. Gersh is a globally-recognized expert on women’s hormones, gut microbiome, and circadian rhythm. She frequently collaborates with numerous research organizations and lectures internationally on women’s health topics.
As Medical Director of the Integrative Medical Group of Irvine, she focuses on understanding women’s innate physical and emotional make-up. Through her research and practical experience, she has come to understand that women have internal, natural rhythms that are absolutely essential to female health. These rhythms are controlled by hormones, particularly estrogen, and may be kept in balance through both conventional and holistic treatments.
We deep dive into ESTROGEN: the good, the bad and the ugly side!

I love this conversation - I am learning so much. Had no idea low estrogen can create problems with the thyroid receptors. I will watch that now that I am in peri menopause. I started taking T3, (Oct 2022) by a dr who was reluctant and only based this rx on my low T3 value. I have since moved and this new dr was reluctant to continue it and stated the risks of T3 being bone loss and heart problems. She even listened to my heart and said it sounded good. So, there are these two risk factors for T3 supplementation. I said, I have felt so much better while on it that the benefits outweigh the risks. I have better hair now, my nails grow, my digestion is so much better (which is my best result), my mental health is greatly improved, my brain fog is gone and I have so much less fatigue. Is there anything else I can add to my argument so that another dr does not threaten to stop this hormone? I eat well, I get enough sleep, I'm happy. Thank you!

If you have low T3 free and higher reverse T3 is it best to be put on T3 alone if your T4 is okay

36:49 inflammation increases risk of breast cancer and that's from loss of estrogen. Estrogen is an immunomodulatory.
