    I also bought this camera and was able to attend the opening party for it! Love the camera so far, bought it for investment reasons and I needed a compact street camera so I don’t have to carry around my huge canon set up. Super low key camera that can fit in any small bag. I’ve been shooting in the 16:9 ratio to get the most amount of pixels in my photos. Would love to see a video on what settings you’re utilizing in this camera.

    Thanks for this useful and practical overview. Can you please help? When I press the shutter of my D-Lux 7 more than one photo is taken. Bracketing and stacking are turned off. The longer I press the shutter the greater number of photos are taken. I can find no solution and the problem is tempting me to sell the camera. I'm probably missing something. Gratefully Gerry

    • @mathphotographer
      @mathphotographer  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes - Panasonic and Olympus make very good pocket cameras too. And not to forget the Fuji X100V - which is another fabulous camera for street. The D-Lux 7 is actually pretty similar and co-developed with the Panasonic LX100 II. But the calibration of the D-Lux 7, in particular in color science etc., is Leica-specific.

    I’d check out the current roll out of the Sony sensors.
    Eg Hasselblad or Z8. We have had a pandemic delayed Olympics, jamming the global HDMI 2.1 roadmap (with its attendant Digital Signal Processing) and now we have, for all intense and practical purposes, World Cup at Xmas time!

    A very capable small camera with an interesting design : ) sadly there seems to be not enough surface to hold it in the back due the screen and the buttons, which makes it a bit like using a smartphone. The Xiaomi 12S Ultra with a smaller one inch sensor and a fixed Leica prime lens with Leica camera science maybe is not that far away. Of course cameras last many years and they are proper cameras, but nevertheless I imagine that for street photography a generic shaped smartphone will be more effective in no drawing attention than a camera with a modern vintage look..

      I would call it "co-developed" with Panasonic and the Lumix LX100 II. In the same way as the new 24-70 f/2.8 lens for the SL-system which is co-developed with Sigma. There is nothing wrong with co-developments because Leica always calibrates and fine-tunes then their camera or lens w.r.t. Leica-specific parameters which then make the gear Leica-original.

      I find it to be fairly simple to use. Like every other unfamiliar new camera, it takes a while to find your way around and to customise it ideally for they way an individual wishes to use it. However it is more intuitive than, say, an Olympus menu system, but the seasoned Olympus user may well have a different opinion. I find that it takes me a couple of weeks and a good read of the manual, front to back, to get comfortable with a new camera. If I wanted a point and shoot I would have bought a point and shoot or a high end smartphone.

      You totally miss the point. These are luxury items not aimed at people like you who do not appreciate their qualities. They are certainly not as technical cameras as others and are certainly far more expensive, which means that they do not compete with your mass market brands. Nobody forces anyone to buy a Leica and until a couple of limited edition models tickled my fancy recently I would not have dreamt of buying one myself. However the first one I bought, a couple of years ago, is now selling for three times the £6500 I paid for it, which I was not expecting and is a nice surprise. But I’m not selling because I simply do not need the money and that is not why I bought it.

      With Leica, you don't get luxury, with Leica you PAY for luxury but get horseshit. With Leica you don't get what you paid for, with Leica, you get LESS than what you paid for. With Leica, you get SCAMMED.

      It’s entirely up to you whether you think it is ‘worth it’ or not. For those on a tight budget or who have different outlooks, then it is patently not worth it, to them. It is of course quite true that there are far technically ‘better’ cameras available for less money but you completely miss the point in thinking that this is a consideration for Leica buyers who, like me, may have several of those ‘better’ cameras as well as a Leica or three. My daily use cameras are mainly the Sony A7III, the Olympus E-M1 MkII, which was superb value as a run out camera, new for £640 not two years ago. Also have a Panasonic GX80 which is itself hardly bigger than the D-Lux 7 but which has a tilt screen and flash. It does need at least two rather expensive lenses to match the LX100 or Leica though.
