Toyota Corolla GR Sport - Is It Better? Handling Test on Genting Highlands | YS Khong Driving

- The Toyota Corolla GR Sport shares the same 2ZR-FE 1.8L naturally-aspirated inline-four engine found in other variants. This engine delivers 139 PS (138 hp or 103 kW) at 6,400 rpm and 172 Nm of torque, paired with a CVT that drives the front wheels.
In addition to aesthetic upgrades to both the exterior and interior, the GR Sport package enhances handling with features such as sports suspension with retuned dampers, springs, and stabilizers. It also includes larger 18-inch wheels with an exclusive Dark Gray Metallic finish, wider 225/40 profile tires, and GR emblems.
So, does the GR Sport package really enhance the handling of the car? To find out, we tested the car at our favorite Genting Highlands to see how it handles.

I got a 2020 corolla which almost looks like a GR sport and love the handling and the characteristics of the car. The looks also is so aggressive.
Good review Uncle. I've tested the GR corolla sedan, noticed while external observation there is no front parking sensors which was omitted vs the standard corolla sedan. Toyota Thailand may have not noticed this.

Unfortunately here in Australia, it is not available as I think TOYOTA do specifically target their worldwide markets; but it is good to know what cars are available elsewhere. On my daily drive to work, I too have the same "commuting companions" and I secretly call them "the usual suspects". Uncle ys,is this corolla grs slower than c.cross, because I rewatch ur genting test video of c.cross, but i saw that it performs very effortless on uphill....
Perhaps therr is a differrnce in the final drive ratios because this car is tuned to be more fuel efficient.

This one handles very well, but is not as powerful as the Civic.

Sadly we don't get GR sport trim in my country (Indonesia), and maybe this power loss comes from 18 inch wheel compared to regular 17 inch wheels.
They should put M20A-FKS engine here

Ignore the about the power part......for the handling & conering between Civic FE & this Corolla GRS.....which better?
The difference is the ride. The Corolla has a nice and soft ride and can still corner better than the FE and the FE has a stiffer suspension.
Actually Honda came out with this arrangement with the FD, but Toyota perfected it.

Why should one buy a GR over the regular Altis?
It handles a little better and has a bit of difference in the trim and 1 inch larger wheels. Mechanically they are both the same

Yes I believe this Corolla Atlis is a bit underpowered. Even an Alza can chase uncle.
Alza is lightweight. If straight road yeah.
Underpowered csn always be tune once warranty dome but driving dynamics and how it handles cant be changed
Its pretty dangerous to chase a car thats going fast up the hill, that Alza just need to floored it to catch up with Uncle.....

@@nashk935 cause westerner mentality? if yours truly asian should know that everything is tunable and when racing on mountain road - speed is one factor but you will need other components like brakes, aerodynamics, tires, suspension settings, chassis body roll, handling tuning, ECU mapping and vicey versa.
Buy a Corolla, sure regret, but after 5 years, you be glad making the choice because the car still can run very well without major problem.

You can say it is, if compared to a high poweted sports car, but it can be fun to drive because it handles well. A GR Corolla would be faster, but will cost more than double.
