Thanks a lot for this. So I tried turning the AI traffic off but was still very much in the red, turned off all traffic but still the same result. I reduced my graphics settings all the way down to low and was still in the red. The solution for me was to increase my virtual memory. For some reason my 16gb ram couldn't keep up. I have now bumped up my graphics settings and turned AI traffic back on and all is still running well. I wanted to post this here just in case it can help someone

Thank you very much! Since the latest MSFS patch the game was unplayable for me cause of random crashes within 5-15 minutes. Before I had not a single crash in more than 40 hours of flying. Turning off AI Traffic and activating Real Time Traffic solved the problem for me finally!

Sir,I apploud you! Last week I went from occasionaly crashing after a flight, to crashing in flight, every flight. Super frustrating!!! I did notice that the crashes occured often a few miles before landing, and I had my AI traffic all set on 100%. Turned it now off and today I had 4 hours of flight time, spread over three flights, no crashes! Thank you so much. I will be using the developers mode more often in the future. Good tip...
Thank you, thank you, thank you! Turning off AI traffic fix all my issues including CTD. I have been unable to use MSFS in either 2D or VR mode for a week. I have no idea how VR traffic was turned on. I was going crazy since I've spent $10K on a high end i9, 3090, Reverb G2, Honeycomb, etc system. Previously I had always flown in VR with all settings on Ultra without any issues. I'm a professional pilot CFI, CFII, MEI, aerobatics trainer, and type rated in many jets. All I wanted to do is fly and not dink with the computer. You have restored my fun! Thank you again so very very much!
Thank you!!! This is indeed the problem I am seeing. I am amazed this is still an issue TWO YEARS later! Turning off AI Traffic did the trick. Interesting that I didn't even have red in the FPS monitor (in fact green) but this still was causing CDTs. I am seeing reports of this problem from three years ago and Asobo has still not addressed this problem. I hate not having any AI traffic but as you say, at least I can fly for more than thirty minutes!
Thanks so much! I googled my error exception code and found this video...then I remembered that a week or so ago I set from real traffic to AI traffic and that's when my CTD's started happening. Never had them before using AI traffic.
I was getting the CTDs but not the mainthread issue. My FPS meter was complaining about the GPU Being the bottleneck. Having said that I disabled AI Traffic anyway and so far I have run two long distance routes, that had previously always crashed, without incident. So far so good. There certainly does seem to be something in your theory. Thank you for sharing.
This is excactly what I changed after the update, seeing that I had all this extra performance to play with. Turned it back to low settings and I can fly again! Cheers mate.
Good diagnostic technique and one that could be applied to several problems being discussed in the forums. I had already lowered most of these settings as I'm pushing my system hard, running Ultra with just these settings turned down. They were problematic in FSX, so I was using a precautionary approach. No CTDs here to date. AMD Ryzen 7 1700 3.7GHz, GTX 1080 8G, 4x8GB CMK16GX4M2B3000C15. 1080p on a 42" TV 60Hz. I get 35-40 in cruise (TBM RTW trip currently, so thanks for the great TBM videos!) and 20-30 in high scenery areas. Very smooth though so I'm happy at these frame rates.

TO THOSE STILL LOOKING FOR A FIX. SWITCH THE "TEXT TO SPEECH" OPTION FROM "AZURE" TO "WINDOWS OFFLINE". THIS IS UNDER GENERAL SETTINGS> SOUND> TEXT TO SPEECH SETTINGS. the game has a HUGE bug when it comes down to photogrammetry and Azure atc voices which are the section of the game in charge of downloading and streaming data for the gameplay. having said that you do not want to exceed your settings at any point in time. Let's just hope microsoft gets on with all the optimization fixes STILL NEEDED for every machine out there. If this helped at all thumbs up so more people can read this.
I started having the random CTD again so came back to see other suggestions. After I've tried everything on the forums, this fix appears to have worked for me. Till the next update when they break something else I guess. I've managed to complete 2 flights since I applied this fix
@@Sy-T007 hey another fix I got from a video. 1 Turn off GAME MODE in windows. 2. (Steam) go to library and broswe for local files of the game. Find the flight simulator.app and right click on it. Go to properties, on the COMPATIBILITY tab check the boxes: run this program in compatibility mode for 'windows vista'. Check box: Dissable fullscreen optimizations Check box: run this program as administrator. Click apply and ok. Next time you run the game go to options, general, on GRAPHICS, turn V-SYNC on and frame rate LIMIT to 60g fps. DONE. I have gone 9 hours with the game and no crash. For some reason those three key things make the HICCUPS on Windows stabilize the game. Hope this does the same for you.
@@shul5684 I've applied all those already apart from the v sync, I read on another post on the forum that it breaks the sim. Ill stick with the windows offline fix for now and probably try that next time I get the crash
I made a little discovery, FS2020 is constantly swiping data via your internet connection. With windows security it sometimes conflict and maybe this is causing CTD. I noticed when I disabled all windows security while in the sim, I GET NO CTD.
none of these tricks did fix 0xc0000005 , as of the current version of today (june 2021) i did try everything possible and msfs still keeps on crashing to desktop with this POS 0xc0000005 error code

MSFS 2020 Start up crashing with this exact error (The Game has crashed. Error code:(0xc0000005) was an irritation for a lot of months. Circumstances led me to have to reinstall Windows 11. After a clean install,and a clean install of MSFS 2020, The sim quit generating that start up error. I was happy to see that. Ran the sim for about a week. No errors or problems. Then i decided to to install my Logitech Flight Multi Panel.( the one that has the auto pilot controls etc). Go to start the Sim,, The error message poped up and it crashed.. I uninstall the pos driver for it and the Sim is perfectly fine since. Bout all i can tell ya's.

Update 7 version was bad, how I fixed my simulator was roll back my pc to Dec.4, 2021 by system image update 6 I regularly make, no crashes now. My question is how can we stop MSFS updating is that possible it’s obvious that Microsoft have no respect for customers who spend their hard earned money and time at the MS Store.
I have this bug also, don't know what happen. I just turn on the batteries and external power. And then I wait for about 20 mins, and it crashed to desktop. Any idea? The GPU temp is below 65°C. My specs: Ryzen 5 4600H GTX 1650Ti (mobile) 16gb RAM
obviously 2 years after the video things may have changed a lot, but for what it's worth: my sim does not show "limited by main thread" unless i crank up the ai amount from my usual setting of "real time online - all the sliders at 50%" to "ai offline - sliders 50% and up" - yet i'm here because of CTDs with the same error code from flying with my usual settings.. appears random as described, can take 3 hrs before it crashes, but also can crash 3 times per hour... Only with MSFS for a month now (needed a change of pace from DCS and liked FSX back then) but between these crashes and the totally intransparent and locked out folder structure of the sim (at least in MS Store version) i really start regretting the purchase...
Hey David, I literally just uninstalled my Nvidia Drivers with DDU and installed 452.22. I do not see a massive difference but I don't have a huge amount of time right now. For me I try and get as close to 60 FPS as I can because I am on a 42" 1080P LED TV. I have followed a few different tweaks and for my system have found the sweetspot. When I have a bit more time I will come back and share what I have done. Thanks for the video
thanks for your efforts but, unfortunately, disabling AI traffic didn't make a difference in my CTDs with the same error code. there seem to be more factors involved.
@@NOTAM1 I disabled v-sync since day one as that was suggested by alpha testers. Some other people fixed the crashes by downclocking factory-overclocked video cards.
Hello please help! I can’t even get in the sim because everytime I click it, it just crashes and I have a really good system so I can’t even get into the Xbox screen it just crashes I’ve tried everything.
I haven't changed any settings recently, just crashed to desktop while departing KOAK which is very rare for me with the Exception code: 0xc0000005 error. Depressing cause I was on vatsim and stuff.
I'm trying to load in a dang desert and its crashing so I know graphics has nothing to do with it. This all happened after the latest update. Same error code
My dad started to have the same issues after the patch (and like you, his game ran fine before). Same error code in the event log. We just tried with AI traffic off and also lowered other traffic settings. Looks fine for a short flight. We'll see tomorrow. Did that fix the crashes for you permanently? I'm running with IA traffic on and don't have issues but my system specs are a bit better so... I don't know. We both have Intel CPUs with Nvidia cards, with the latest Nvidia drivers (456.38). It's....... weird.
@@NOTAM1 Yeah but my monitor is 60 Hz anyways... Disabling V-Sync is just taxing my GPU for frames I will never see. Not saying it can't help in some cases, but 99% of the time my game is CPU limited (limited by main thread) and it doesn't crash. I have a Titan RTX and I play @ 1920X1200, so the GPU is almost never the bottleneck. I think the culprit here is AI traffic (or even real time), looks like there's a bug somewhere in there. My dad's game crashed all the time and it hasn't crashed since we turned off all traffic.
funny thing about this problem isthat I always thought this problem would only happen if you're actually flying. I was now still creating a flight plan and while doing it the game crashed and I got back to desktop. I had already turned the traffic down and I am so done with this game. It wasn't crashing since the beginning, it happens since the last patch was relased. It didn't fix any problems for me, it made the game unplayable.
David Traves - yeah, I don‘t get it anymore. It must has something to do with the latest patch. I don’t think that my hardware is the reason for the problems, because my computer is brand new, it runs with the ryzen 5 3600 and gpu is the geforce rtx 2080. I always came up with at least 30-35 fps at the beginning and a lot of the setting were running on ultra and traffic was also activated. It all began with frame drops to 5fps during the flight and now the game just crash and is getting me straight to the desktop. I just can‘t play it currently
i just bought mfs on xbox app and when i open it that 2gb installer opens it crashes before it can even start the download. It just crashes and closes the game with no error. If anyone know how to help pls
I've had many ctd even after watching and changing settings...I run an i59600k with 1660ti. what solved my issue was changing cache allocation to my nvme drive and gave it 100gb limit...now I have everything on ultra with average traffic settings...and haven't crashed yet
my game crashes on the loading into flight screen. Once it gets to the end of the bear, the game just completely closes. I've tried multiple things but none have worked. I bought this game yesterday and have been eager to play it ever since. If you have anything you could tell me that would help, please let me know.

Rally appreciate your videos. Just wanted to confirm that yeah AI Traffic is a crazy hit to FPS. I don’t know why but I can run the live traffic (the real world stuff from airlines etc) and get maybe 1-2fps hit. AI on just 15 would drop 7-8 consistently and real world gives way way more traffic activity than AI at 15. Maybe try that out. I’m on a 3700X with a 2080 Super and 32GB of RAM at 1440p.
My crashes come when trying to select general settings. Sim seems to run fine until I want to change something.. Anyone have any suggestions? Almost everything that I have seen shows poeple going into general settings to change something.

Worked for me for a Day but then went back to the usual. ?!@?!!! But have now fixed the issue by not using Full Screen mode and using it in Windows Mode no CTD fir a week now.
I can repreduce the CDT Problems and find out that the FS gona CTD when your RAM is full. You neet 32GB of Real RAM, ore you make ON A SSD, and only on one the Paging File bigger for use! Try test it. Set Paging File to 0 and Start FS. It will be Crash 100% to Desktop unter 28 GB of Ram, at 16 GB it Crashes after Go fly imendly to Desktop! @ BUT! SSD much more smaler and that ends up with struggling Frams per Sec. In the Developer Mode: Mainthread! Look at your Prozessor. The are not on 100%! But he needs long times to read the Data from the slow SSD! The latenz between real RAM and the Paging File on the SSD is Imens! Sorry fpr my Bad English, best regards from Germany

The instruction portion is slower, I sped through the context to not waste anyone's time. I'm not sure what you mean by "you can't hear worth a crap", do you mean that you can't hear it? There isn't anything but my voice so I'm guessing you need to turn up the volume a bit if that's what you mean.

It's already CTDing in the menus for me with 0xc0000005 so unfortunately, this didn't do very much. Good effort helping others though!

It's like "In your network settings, scroll to 'disable malicous traffic' and turn it on"

Only with MSFS for a month now (needed a change of pace from DCS and liked FSX back then) but between these crashes and the totally intransparent and locked out folder structure of the sim (at least in MS Store version) i really start regretting the purchase...

I literally just uninstalled my Nvidia Drivers with DDU and installed 452.22. I do not see a massive difference but I don't have a huge amount of time right now. For me I try and get as close to 60 FPS as I can because I am on a 42" 1080P LED TV. I have followed a few different tweaks and for my system have found the sweetspot. When I have a bit more time I will come back and share what I have done.

thanks for your efforts but, unfortunately, disabling AI traffic didn't make a difference in my CTDs with the same error code. there seem to be more factors involved.
@@NOTAM1 I disabled v-sync since day one as that was suggested by alpha testers.
Some other people fixed the crashes by downclocking factory-overclocked video cards.

Try windows mode only not full screen worked for me.

I found something new today , if you start with your AI off when loading up a flight then taking off then turning your AI back on it will work
I haven't changed any settings recently, just crashed to desktop while departing KOAK which is very rare for me with the Exception code: 0xc0000005 error. Depressing cause I was on vatsim and stuff.
I'm trying to load in a dang desert and its crashing so I know graphics has nothing to do with it. This all happened after the latest update. Same error code
mine will only load the logos of the companies that made the game and then it crashes to desktop, i cant even get to the hanger
Ok for me I solved my CTD problem : In the graphic settings I reduced my buildings setting to medium. On high it will crash to desktop in big cities.
My dad started to have the same issues after the patch (and like you, his game ran fine before). Same error code in the event log. We just tried with AI traffic off and also lowered other traffic settings. Looks fine for a short flight. We'll see tomorrow. Did that fix the crashes for you permanently? I'm running with IA traffic on and don't have issues but my system specs are a bit better so... I don't know. We both have Intel CPUs with Nvidia cards, with the latest Nvidia drivers (456.38). It's....... weird.
@@NOTAM1 Yeah but my monitor is 60 Hz anyways... Disabling V-Sync is just taxing my GPU for frames I will never see. Not saying it can't help in some cases, but 99% of the time my game is CPU limited (limited by main thread) and it doesn't crash. I have a Titan RTX and I play @ 1920X1200, so the GPU is almost never the bottleneck. I think the culprit here is AI traffic (or even real time), looks like there's a bug somewhere in there. My dad's game crashed all the time and it hasn't crashed since we turned off all traffic.
funny thing about this problem isthat I always thought this problem would only happen if you're actually flying. I was now still creating a flight plan and while doing it the game crashed and I got back to desktop. I had already turned the traffic down and I am so done with this game. It wasn't crashing since the beginning, it happens since the last patch was relased. It didn't fix any problems for me, it made the game unplayable.
David Traves - yeah, I don‘t get it anymore. It must has something to do with the latest patch. I don’t think that my hardware is the reason for the problems, because my computer is brand new, it runs with the ryzen 5 3600 and gpu is the geforce rtx 2080. I always came up with at least 30-35 fps at the beginning and a lot of the setting were running on ultra and traffic was also activated. It all began with frame drops to 5fps during the flight and now the game just crash and is getting me straight to the desktop. I just can‘t play it currently

I've had many ctd even after watching and changing settings...I run an i59600k with 1660ti. what solved my issue was changing cache allocation to my nvme drive and gave it 100gb limit...now I have everything on ultra with average traffic settings...and haven't crashed yet
my game crashes on the loading into flight screen. Once it gets to the end of the bear, the game just completely closes. I've tried multiple things but none have worked. Rally appreciate your videos. Just wanted to confirm that yeah AI Traffic is a crazy hit to FPS. I don’t know why but I can run the live traffic (the real world stuff from airlines etc) and get maybe 1-2fps hit. AI on just 15 would drop 7-8 consistently and real world gives way way more traffic activity than AI at 15. Maybe try that out. I’m on a 3700X with a 2080 Super and 32GB of RAM at 1440p.

My crashes come when trying to select general settings. Sim seems to run fine until I want to change something.. Anyone have any suggestions? Almost everything that I have seen shows poeple going into general settings to change something.

None of these helped. The SIM loads and flies fine in some parts of the world, and crashes immediately on other parts.

with more VRAM. This is how much RAM your gpu has.

Worked for me for a Day but then went back to the usual. ?!@?!!!
But have now fixed the issue by not using Full Screen mode and using it in Windows Mode no CTD fir a week now.

I can repreduce the CDT Problems and find out that the FS gona CTD when your RAM is full. You neet 32GB of Real RAM, ore you make ON A SSD, and only on one the Paging File bigger for use! Try test it. Set Paging File to 0 and Start FS. It will be Crash 100% to Desktop unter 28 GB of Ram, at 16 GB it Crashes after Go fly imendly to Desktop! @ BUT! SSD much more smaler and that ends up with struggling Frams per Sec. In the Developer Mode: Mainthread! Look at your Prozessor. The are not on 100%! But he needs long times to read the Data from the slow SSD! The latenz between real RAM and the Paging File on the SSD is Imens! Sorry fpr my Bad English, best regards from Germany

The instruction portion is slower, I sped through the context to not waste anyone's time. I'm not sure what you mean by "you can't hear worth a crap", do you mean that you can't hear it? There isn't anything but my voice so I'm guessing you need to turn up the volume a bit if that's what you mean.
MSFS 2020 Start up crashing with this exact error (The Game has crashed.
Error code:(0xc0000005) was an irritation for a lot of months.
Circumstances led me to have to reinstall Windows 11. After a clean install,and a clean install of MSFS 2020, The sim quit generating that start up error.
I was happy to see that. Ran the sim for about a week. No errors or problems.
Then i decided to to install my Logitech Flight Multi Panel.( the one that has the auto pilot controls etc).
Go to start the Sim,, The error message poped up and it crashed..
I uninstall the pos driver for it and the Sim is perfectly fine since. Bout all i can tell ya's.
