    As a semi burnout designer I personally have no desire to go back and forth with clients on a logo design. This seems like way more value than $100 - I would caution those who feel like going down this road that it may not be working smarter, just harder! I appreciate the other, less hands on suggestions here. Thanks for sharing this video!

    $75 to $100 is actually pretty cheap for a logo, though sites like Fiver and 99Designs can go for much cheaper. Coming from a former graphic designer, lowball prices like these are part of the reasons that caused me to get into something else.
    I used to work for a dollar a minute, with an hour minimum (which actually seems to be comparable to prices I am seeing charged today in some cases). But for logos, the cheapest ones I remember were around $120. I would then charge accordingly, depending on if they wanted custom letterheads, business cards, etc...

    • @KateHayes
      @KateHayes  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, pricing can vary widely across various platforms. Can be tricky to find a price point that you are comfortable with but is still competitive for that specific platform but it can be done! 😄

    • @pinkscampi
      @pinkscampi ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Globalisation is the problem. I want to make leather products but I am based in the UK. Looking at £100+ but you can order something similar from Poland or Ukraine for £40+. Exchange rate and differences in cost of living and cost of raw materials is huge and because they are so cheap you won't get charged import fees. So there's no point me even starting the design problem.

    • @brevs8387
      @brevs8387 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @Pink Scampi I think Graphic Design got bad years ago because of places like Canva (and it's predecessors). When I left the University in the early 2000's everyone and their Mom thought they were a Graphic Designer because they had access Microsoft Paint or something like Canva. So hardly anyone wanted to pay for decent graphics work. Even now, most don't/won't pay a lot.
      That's not to say money can't be made. You have to find you niche and figure out a way to make something you and customers will love. I am preaching to myself. I have been on Etsy off and on since 2012. My shop is a hodge podge of stuff (probably one of a few reasons I don't do as well as I would like and watch Kate's and other's videos).

      I agree. I’m a designer and because of these dirt cheap prices, I am looking to get into selling on multiple platforms. Nothing custom. Just products you either like or you don’t. To sit and create 3-5 ideas alone, eat’s up that $100. Then you have to spend your time going back and forth communicating, designing digitally, make multiple changes, etc. In the end you make minimum wage and your time couldn’t be used for making real money. Everyone lowballs out of desperation or they sit at home anyway with nothing to do, and it ends up killing the industry.

    Would you recommend starting a separate Etsy shop for digital products, if yes WHY? I have a physical store with some digital products thrown in, but not sure whether to expand my digital products on that store or create a totally separate shop for digital products only? Thank you! 😀

    • @KateHayes
      @KateHayes  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Great question! Do your physical and digital products relate in any way? Like same theme (sports, teachers, pets, etc) or topic/subject? If yes then they might be able to work together in the same shop. If no, I’d recommend having a separate shop for your digital products so everything appears cohesive and specialized.

Can you please explain?

    • @KateHayes
      @KateHayes  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey friend! So anything you’re creating in Canva as an editable template you would get the “template link” for inside of Canva. Canva will generate this template link for you which you then deliver to the customer (usually on a PDF file that you embed it on) once they purchase. You’ve uploaded that PDF file (with template link embedded) to the Etsy listing so as soon as they purchase, they get the PDF file and can click through to the editable template. Hope this helps!

    You have provided such great info and I used your link to start an Etsy shop a few days ago. However after my second listing my listings were disabled and my shop was suspended. There is no way to find out why and I was never given a reason. I feel defeated and frustrated. Any helpful hints on what to do next?

      Etsy does this sometimes with new sellers to vet the seller and make sure they are legit. Not usually something to worry about as they will reinstate your shop once they confirm you’re a real person. In the meantime, read thru their policies thoroughly and double check your shop to make sure everything is in compliance!

    Do you have a video on all digital items you’ve sold

      Unfortunately no, don’t have a video on that yet. Great idea though!

    Thank you - Great Video. Question - If I have Pro Canva and design templates in that - would the buyer need to have Pro also?

    • @KateHayes
      @KateHayes  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, they would. Otherwise they could pay per design to remove the watermark on the pro elements

    do I need to have Canva Pro to make assets for sale?

    • @KateHayes
      @KateHayes  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No you don’t! You can access the template link on the free plan. If you use any pro elements in an editable template, the person who purchases it will also have to have pro or pay per design to remove the watermark- it’s best to avoid this by only using the free elements if you’re going to be selling an editable template. If you’re selling a final design that the buyer will not edit, you’re fine to use pro elements as you’ll be providing the final file to them- not the template.

      @@KateHayes do you have any videos that show how to make an upload? The editable templates versus the ones that they cannot edit like you said using pro elements
