Eventually I got a turbo fire controller and discovered that you could keep a bubble shield for the duration of the level and then using turbo fire hold the jump button and you would bounce down so fast you could actually bounce the barrel down and below barrier and get out. Obviously could never beat it as tails. I thought it was strange they’d let you play as tails only to this level. Anyway, it was 1995ish, I was 6ish, and there was no internet and if anything I knew more about how to beat it than anyone at school. Eventually around 2001 or so I was able to look up how to beat it.

Sonic 3 my BELOVED. I played this game over and over as a kid. I grew up with all 3 of the classic Sonic games (and a few others), but this one was my favorite.
This whole game and soundtrack are in a class of their own. Every tune is beautiful and extremely well written, but some I'd almost forgotten, such as 1:14:33. So beautiful and uplifting! It doesn't get any better than that. And what about 1:06:16? That's gotta be one of the most chill and relaxing tunes ever, gorgeous! Thx for uploading. 🤩👍
I don't love every single piece, but as far as I'm concerned this was an electronic hip-hop epic with global resonance (starting with the Caribbean sound of Angel Island to the Arabism of Sandopolis Act 1). Musical worldbuilding on this scale is rare.
Thank you so much for uploading this. As someone who is very familiar with the original hardware, most of these songs found on other youtube channels were recorded through emulators and the music doesn't have correct channel balancing and sounds off. This blows away emulator music. Can't beat actual hardware!
There are other Mega Drive games that have individual tracks I like more than these, but taken as a whole, this may be the greatest of all Mega Drive OSTs.

As much as I LOVE Genesis music, would you consider recording SNES music at some point? I can't seem to find a channel that records SNES audio directly from the console. All I'm hearing is emulated BS. Or at least, I THINK it's emulated. The channels that DO upload SNES soundtracks never say that they were recorded from authentic hardware so I think it's about time someone stepped up to the plate and uploaded some clean SNES music.

MJ's team only composed for Sonic 3 they had nothing to do with Sonic and Knuckles that was scored by Howard Drossin and others at SEGA. We are not sure 100% which tracks MJ's team did for Sonic 3 anyway they did 41 tracks for the game but SEGA cut most of it out and plus MJ left because of the scandal and was not happy with the sound coming out of the SEGA genesis console. I done a bit of my own research these are the tracks MJ's team did for Sonic 3 as we know. +Zatta keo I did as many tracks as I could via the locked-on game's sound test, and I did the Sonic 3-only tracks by doing the cartridge swapping trick. You do the level select code with Sonic 2, and then you swap the cartridge with Sonic 3 and reset the Genesis. You can also get it by doing the "up up down down up up up up" code but that is a pain in the butt. Quicker just to do the cartridge swap...

(And if you do the cartridge swapping trick constantly it could damage your game or console. So I wouldn't make a habit of doing that. :P )

How did you record sonic 3? is there a hidden menu option like in sonic 2?
+Zatta keo I did as many tracks as I could via the locked-on game's sound test, and I did the Sonic 3-only tracks by doing the cartridge swapping trick. You do the level select code with Sonic 2, and then you swap the cartridge with Sonic 3 and reset the Genesis. You can also get it by doing the "up up down down up up up up" code but that is a pain in the butt. Quicker just to do the cartridge swap...

Zatta keo Oh you don't need Sonic & Knuckles to get the Sonic 3 sound test. You do need Sonic 2 however! Or if you can do the code, that is probably better to do.
+Zatta keo Yeah the sound test code wasn't programmed that well in Sonic 3 alone. If you have a game genie somewhere that's the easiest method if you don't want to do the cartridge swapping trick. (And if you do the cartridge swapping trick constantly it could damage your game or console. So I wouldn't make a habit of doing that. :P )
