The amount of nostalgia with this song is off the charts, this song and "Down With The Sickness" were HUGE in the early 2000's and made Disturbed a cultural phenomenon at the time. I'm sure everyone here heard those songs everywhere at the time, I really miss the 2000's!

Disturbed was formed in Chicago in the 90's...signed in 1999 and debuting their 1st album 'The Sickness' in 2000... 'Stupify' was the first single and music video made... it debuted on MTV and was an instant hit and the album charted at #29 in the US... The album produced more singles - 'Down with the sickness'... 'Voices'... 🔥🔥🤘🤘 'The Game' was another fave track ... and 'The Sickness' sold 5x platinum.
The band returned in 2002 w/ their 2nd album 'Believe'... it went to #1 on the US charts, despite MTV banning the music video for the single 'Prayer' (It depicted buildings falling in downtown L.A. in an earthquake, but media suits said it resembled the 9/11 attacks too much).

Y'all would love the main single "The Night" off of my personal favorite album Indestructible, the guitar solo is Disturbed's best solo imo. I can listen to the whole Indestructible album on repeat and never get tired of it, the first album, 10,000 Fists, and Indestructible are Disturbed's prime years imo.

For other Nu Metal-ish bands, check out American Head Charge 'Just So You Know' (Slipknot's Clown briefly appears in the music video) and downthesun 'Medicated' (Clown managed the band briefly, one of the vocalists was Clown's drum tech, and they were the first and only band to appear on Slipknot's old short-lived 'Maggot Corps' record label).

2 songs I recommend from Disturbed.. Well Everyone .. EVERYONE loved their rendition of Land of Confusion . Originally a Phill Collins song ( with the band Genesis ) and one of my personal favorites .. Since we just passed Halloween .. The Animal. Very much a hype song and gets you in touch with your inner beast .

On the album this song actually feeds into “Down with the Sickness” if I recall correctly. They’re definitely back to back. And they are definitely nu-metal. It’s even more apparent in the other songs on this album. And it did come out in 2000. This was the first album I ever bought when I was younger lol. They have a lot of bangers. If you haven’t already you should listen to “Inside the Fire”, “Indestructible “, “Ten Thousand Fists”, “Land of Confusion” (Genesis cover), “Prayer”, and “The Animal”… just a few 😂

    • @OnyxANZ

It's so weird to me that Ten Thousand Fists has been all but forgotten. It doesn't get mentioned enough these days. Land of Confusion was a fantastic cover. All of the songs mentioned here are classics, and The Animal just doesn't get enough credit either.

My friends, I found you quite recently, during another attack of madness for the Tool, and in 4 days I went with you all the way from a live performance of Sober to your vlog from their concert. It's been a wonderful journey to watch, keep absorbing music with the same passion and who knows, you might live forever. And now a message to Patreon subscribers: I beg you to please offer a response to Morphine, one of the most underrated bands with a completely unique sound and a premordial ability to feel music, I bet it will be unforgettable! You can start with the song "Souvenir", it will definitely blow your mind. This could be a new journey (but don't dare expect anything based on the fact that I'm a Toolhead lol). Keep having fun!

I swear, I am going to die on this hill trying to explain this to you fools. Numetal is NOT exclusively a fusion of rock and rap. There are PLENTY of groups in the subgenre that don't rap ever: Sevendust, Staind, Papa Roach, Flaw, Adema, Earshot, Cold, Soil, Spineshank, the originators Helmet, need I go on? The primary characteristic of the subgenre is down-tuned guitars.
And yes, I think I remember hearing this on KROQ before Down with the Sickness.
Also gotta get to The Game, their cover of Land of Confusion by Genesis, and my favorite, Guarded

Hey Smokey and Hollywood! First time commenter but been a Trash Talker for a few months now after stumbling across your videos, which I love by the way!
If you want an insane Disturbed track to react too, not just song wise as it's an absolute banger, but video wise because... well... I'd recommend picking the unedited one because despite the lead singer, David Draiman giving a warning at the very beginning of the video? The song and video is on the topic of suicide and it's pretty graphic so a trigger warning is advised.
    Keep up the awesome work!

If you want something completly left field, I'd recommend Stomu Yamashta's album The Man From The East. Specifically the song Memories Of Hiroshima. No lyrics, just an instrumental. Pink Floyd-esque with a Japanese flavour. Meant to make you feel like you're walking through the aftermath of the Little Boy explosion. It, along with other songs on that album, were used to score David Bowies film The Man That Fell To Earth.

The reason I mention it, is an old hippie, Geoff, heard what I was listening to on my (not a) Sony Walk Man - Disturbed, SOAD, Slipknot etc. in the early 00's. He got me into Stomu, Pink Floyd, Led Zep, X-Ray Spex etc. as well as dozens of other bands from the late 50's to the mid 80's.

Disturbed was sort of a Nu Metal adjacent band IMO. They had a little bit of the feel but not entirely Nu Metal.
I really hope you guys do "SP LIT" by Chimaira. They are such a criminally underrated band that should have been huge and the riff in that song might be the most filthy guitar tone ever.

That was Disturbed's first single. I definitely would not classify this as Nu-Metal..

The elitists don't even classify Disturbed as metal, period.

@@FlyboyHelosim Really? I would call this just straight up Metal... of course, I wouldn't call myself an Elitist either... lol

@@WolfFX13 Yeah I've seen them arguing with fans, and they call them rock. They're also not on the Metal Encyclopedia website, not that that's the be-all and end-all. I'd personally call them alternative metal, which is what bands who didn't fit a certain sound tended to be labelled before nu metal came along.

Stupify made them famous, later songs were even bigger though. But anyone’s breakout is tied as most important alongside the biggest. Imo

We need black sabbath heaven and hell. Its dio singing. After ozzy got kicked out from sbbbath, dio replaced him and made two of the best albums of all time, heaven and heĺl and mob rules

David Draiman, said that this song he wrote because of an ugly experience he had with his family's reaction to him dating a latina girl when he was younger. He was stupefied by their racism. And it bothered him his whole life.

Fear is another good one from this album. It's also a "rap" style vocal performance from disturbed. Early disturbed was way harder than later in my opinion

Dropping Plates and Meaning of Life are ludacris fun. Worth a listen. Those two are definitely more Nu Metal. They move away from this style after the first album. They become more pop influenced, less rap influenced.
