The lyrics are TIMELESS. When Paul Simon wrote those words he meant them as a warning for a future that scared him. David and Disturbed is telling you that you didn't heed that warning and here we are.....
Yeah, that sounds all good and well for a VH1 behind the music, but in reality, the very first line is from when Paul lived on his own for the first time and had a bunch of roommates, he used to go in the downstairs bathroom to practice guitar, since it had tiles and better acoustics, he said he would turn out the lights and turn on the bath tub faucet and practice. One particular day in 1963 he did that and the first words out his mouth as he strummed the guitar were "Hello darkness my old friend". He wrote the rest over the next several days, and took it to the streets and coffee houses to polish it up. The lyrics were simply poetic angst of a 20 something kid, that he took from things he'd heard in college Lit. class that he hoped would impress young ladies and make them think he was dark and mysterious. It wasn't until 1964 that he played it for Garfunkel and they included it on their debut album Wednesday Morning 3am as the song "Sounds of Silence". At least that's what some guy named Paul Simon said in a 1994 interview in Rolling Stone....lol. He said in an more recent interview that he loved that the people debate over the meaning to this day, and that it just shows that music can be interpreted in so many ways, that if you do your job as a writer, a song can be a gift that keeps giving long after you're gone, and can be applied to many different things, important to so many different people, some might even believe the author had the ability to see into the future!
Simon and Garfunkel did this years ago, very folk feeling. Then..Disturded came along and did the best cover EVER. The instrument graveyard at the beginning, then bringing them back to life while music was being written but kept silent. Then the ark crossing the river at the end to bring it together. Greatness. Paul Simon wrote this song but when he heard Disturbed's version he texted or called David, the lead singer and told him this song is now yours, you brought the meaning to the soul of today. LOVED this ❤ it reaches into your soul. What a voice!
Far from the best cover ever but I guess everyone's entitled to their opinion. Go listen to Chris Cornell covering Nothing Compares 2 U or Kasey Chambers covering Losing It. There's so many to list.
No he did not, nor did he text or phone him, he sent him an email the next morning, after Conan performance, that simply said, "Hadn't heard the full performance yet and was interested to see you do it live, well done." I remember because when David Draiman told an interviewer that a few days later, the interviewer said....That's it??!! Hadn't seen it yet, well done!!??.....Draiman was like dude, do you know how private Paul Simon is, and protective of his music, and particular about artists he even associates with much less does a song with or comments on their music. With that email I accomplished two things, total respect from my parents and the ability to die a happy man (totally paraphrasing what David said, but he was literally giddy that Paul even sent him an email) You're thinking of Rick Rubin and Johnny Cash, Rubin asked Trent Reznor of 9inch Nails for copyright permission so Johnny could do Hurt, Trent agreed to it but told Rubin he thought it wasn't gonna work, an old country legend doing an Emo type song. Rubin sent Trent a copy of the video day after they finished editing it, and Trent called Rubin and said it brought him and his wife to tears, literally, and then said, it's no longer my song, from this day forward it belongs to Johnny Cash. The two stories get mixed up all the time though, no biggy.
Kathy here - Disturbed is a metal band. But David Draiman can sing anything. His range is unbelievable. He was trained as a Cantor growing up, as most of his family. But then he pivoted, and when he wanted to do metal, he hired a vocal coach to teach him how to do the growl in his voice. This was a Simon and Garfunkel original. But after Disturbed put out their cover, Paul Simon reached out and congratulated them on their version and said the song is now yours, as your brought forward to today's world. And no, the words have not been rewritten, it is the original song.
Do you have any evidence of this --because I find this basically impossible to believe. I know that Simon was complimentary, but the notion that Simon would say "it's now yours" seems patently ridiculous. I'm a huge fan of Disturbed, but they're just not... Simon and Garfunkle, and Draiman isn't Simon--the best popular music songwriter probably ever and the most important songwriter of the 20th century. Why would he relinquish what is one of his best and best-known songs? This sounds apocryphal to me.
As mentioned before, this is a cover of a folk song by Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel from the 1960s. The lyrics weren’t touched, they just apply even more now than before. The “neon god” is usually interpreted as television or commercialism but it applies just as well to phones, tablets, money, or anything that we are now obsessed with and “worship”. Tenement halls are an older version of the projects, where in the late 1800s to mid 1900s New Yorkers, primarily immigrants, lived in horrendous conditions. The sound of silence is the heavy pointed lack of reaction and hopelessness to inequities in the world, where everyone watches and awaits for someone else to say something.
@@daning9415 yes, Paul Simon wanted it to be more dark and mysterious, to send a message/warning, while Art Garfunkel insisted on it bein an upbeat, more pop version, that obviously didn't get the thought across properly, and why it was technically a flop, back when it first came out. And, when Simon heard this version for the first time, he was amazed with it, and let David know that this is actually what he wanted, but couldn't, due to the issue with Art, insisting on it bein more upbeat, and poppy, instead of starting off dark and mysterious, then opening up, to a kind of hope...
this is possibly the best cover of any song ive ever heard personally, my father was a big fan of the original which is the only reason why i even know it was a cover, as i ended up really enjoying the song too. Disturbs cover of this song is one of my all time favorite songs ever and it never fails to give me goose bumbs, his voice is otherworldly
@brilyman, Johnny Cash did a cover of Hurt, which is as good, if not, better than Disturbed's, The Sound Of Silence. Eva Cassidy sang a cover of Fileds Of Gold which also is as good as Disturbed's version of The Sound Of Silence. Nonetheless, Disturbed did an amazing job of covering this song.
@@MathewBall johnny cash is not for me my friend hahaha, and eva cassidy's fields of gold i'll give you, i think thats also a really good song, and funnily enough also one of my dads favourites lmao
I heard someone say that the Simon and Garfunkel version makes you think and this version makes you feel - I agree. I prefer this version. They also performed it live on Conon and it's incredible (especially since David Draiman was sick when he performed.) The lyrics are the same as the original.
This is my favorite version of this song. Disturbed just really knocked it out of the park. The lyrics are all the same and very powerful. This one is just incredible!
These are Simon and Garfunkel’s lyrics. When he recorded this, he’d been off an entire year due to surgery on his throat. Paul Simon actually praised the band for how amazing they did. David is classically trained! Some people just think he’s a yeller! But his voice can do so many different styles of singing! Thanks for reacting to this!
This song was originally released in 1964 by Simon & Garfunkel. Disturbed did a cover of this and put their spin on it. The words are more true today than in 64. People listening without talking I think refers to all the texting and posting on social media today. People have lost the art of communication and personal interaction. Paul Simon heard their cover, he loved it saying the song now belongs to Disturbed. Great reaction! Hope you look into more from Disturbed. 🎶🎶
This song was written by Paul Simon and Art Garfunkle of Simon and Garfunkle. It was written in 1964. There was no changes to the lyrics. This is just a beautiful cover that was respectfully done by Disturbed!
IT’s original lyrics just sung differently. It’s absolutely beautiful. I get chills everytime I hear this version. It’s actually even more relevant today than it was originally.
I get the chills as well! This version and any live version! I haven't heard all of Disturbeds music, but only some of the bigger one's and this one and the live version's I've seen of this really gives me the chills!!
I remember walking along an empty beach in wales on a cold day off season with my Walkman and Simon and Garfunkel my only tape. I did not think I could love any cover more than the original. Then This. Blew my mind. Get don in here!!!
I loved the live version as well, I hated that David was ill during this performance. He was very upset that they played SOME backup from his studio version. All in all, I loved the video, the thought Disturbed put into it. AMAZING!
They didn't use backup frome his studio version - they used autotune in a couple places where the sound guys were afraid he couldn't hit the notes because of his illness - and David was really PISSED that they had done so.
This video was the one that started me down the reaction channel rabbit hole. I am so excited you did it. They are from the Chicago area. They have some great songs/videos. I would love to see you do more reactions of their work.
Lyrics are exact as original & yes, this is like 50 or 60 yrs old. You need to see the live version, even if its offline. Hard to believe he could do it better live, but he does. 👍
1960s had subways and tenement halls as well. You should listen to Simon and Garfunkel’s original. The words are the same, but the intensity has changed. ❤️🎶
The live version is fantastic too and recorded whilst he was sick. I live the original when im feeling pensive but this version when I need to process some rage playing it loud lol.
When i first heard Disturbed cover of this song I was blown away! It brought me to tears..just as when Simon & Garfunkel released it in 1964.. love this rendition ..the reinvention of a classic .. Paul Simon is a genius songwriter and performer.. Disturbed released this version in 2015.. Sounds of Silence is a classic..💕
This song blew peoples minds when it came out in 1964 and it was a warning for the future that Paul Simon could foresee. Disturbed's cover says you didn't listen so this is where we're at now. Thanks for the great reaction !
Love Disturbed's version. Song is still so relevant. Thanks for reacting! Did you see the video short of Ren and team hearing on the radio they won #1 for Sick Boi albumn? Thank you so much for all you did to help him! ❤
This song is definitely a classic. Our youth choir sang it in a church service in the 70's and this cover moves me even more now than our version did then.
Paul Simon wrote these iconic lyrics in the early 1960’s. Disturbed did not change the lyrics, although they slowed the tempo from the original, and dropped it into a minor key, giving weight, sadness and anger to the meaning. This song has been covered hundreds of times by a host of artists. This one is my favorite, and I remember when the original was performed by Simon and Garfunkel. They also performed this in Central Park in 1981, which caused a huge resurgence in the song’s popularity.
I'm not taking anything away from Simon and Garfunkel, but I prefer this cover from Disturbed. I believe the lyrics are exactly as Simon had written when he was only 21, but the hauntingly, passionate delivery by David Draiman really makes you hear every word, not to mention the music in this cover shows more reverence to the lyrics as well. Who would of thought all these decades later, it's still just as prevalent!✌❤
@@Mancjorot I had to rewatch it myself. Hehe. Idk if you watched it yet but apparently he was sick that day and you can kinda hear it. But still absolutely murdered it.
@@Danny_R_ I have watched it now and I absolutely concur with your preference, if that's how David performs whilst sick, imagine how good he would of been on top form...mind blowing. I'm so glad you put me onto that, as I'd read about this their performance on Conan, as Simon apparently emailed David after watching it to congratulate them. Imagine being in the audience for that, such lucky people. Thanks again Danny.✌❤
@@Mancjorot No worries ;) Would be dope watching him live. I haven't really deep dived into Disturbed which i probably should. His voice is something else. Also love that Simon reached out after. Thats how it should be instead of all this competition and always trying to be better. Give people their roses when they deserve it.
They only changed one word, "disturbed" the sound of silence. The reason they have so many views is if you know the original which is already brilliant but then this version which is giving you the shivers because we are right there of what Simon and Garfunkel was warning us decades ago, it hits even more. That combined with his absolutely perfect and powerful voice........ comoooooonnnn!!!
disturbed is a prolific band with many albums, 'down with the sickness' was their biggest hit on their first album, it probably sticks out to u the most bc it was on the radio forever and was used in everything from commercials to movies, i definitely recommend diving into thier discography, its great stuff.
I was 16 when I first this, in 1968 or so, and I remember thinking to myself I would be listening to it when I was old. I was right. I’m 70 and still here. Paul Simon wrote this, word for word. He was and is a songwriting genius. Disturbed killed this.
The words are the same, but this version is sung without the two part harmony of Simon and Garfunkel. If you want to check out Disturbed performing this song live, with harmony (like the original) check out “Disturbed- The Sound of Silence feat. Myles Kennedy Live in Houston”. I love live versions, and the similarity to the original with the two part harmony will blow you away! 🤘🏼🤘🏼❤️
My mom (who can not stand my music) called me raving…”Did you ever hear of this band disturbed, oh my god his voice, you have to hear how amazing this is…” and I told her mom I’ve been listening to them since I was a teenager, you even drove me to go see them, saying the whole time “I don’t know how you listen to that music,”and now here we are, and you hear what I’ve heard the whole time lol…you and Don mentioned in your Metallica video recently that music has the ability to unite people, and this is an example of music uniting generations… keep up the reactions, always entertaining
I listened to their first album again like two days ago and was surprised to notice how much the vocals seemed like they had a weird kind of Afro-Caribbean rhythmic influence.
Lol you said super old and I literally had chest pains. The original came out in 1964 the year before I was born. This is a reimagining of the original. They literally updated it and brought out the rage that so many young people feel about the state of everything. I think they nailed it.
There is always an underlining message that, in what ever way, each person can connect with in music. But, when the message is clear, it strikes a cord with everyone.
This is one of my favorite covers. What I love best about Disturbed is that they won't release a cover for a song unless they can perfect it. The original version of this song is quiet and eeriely beautiful. Disturbed's version is a violent whisper in the night. You can find a vocal only version of this and it might be even more powerful without the instrumental. When he first performed this live he was sick and the performance was near perfect.
saw them do this live back in June on an outdoor stage at a festival and they were phenomenal. tens of thousands of people with eyes and ears glued to the stage… it was mesmerizing for sure 😍 David Draiman has one of the most powerful voices in rock and metal. definitely in my top 5.
The back story to why he sang this song is amazing. He had surgery on his throat. He couldn’t talk for over a year and this is the first song he recorded after his recovery.
Your facial reactions say it all !!! This is an amazing cover of a brilliant song, 1st done by Simon & Garfunkel warning us, if we don't change our ways we are headed for destruction, and Disturbs version is angry, because we didn’t listen to the warnings... 😌 I always feel this song is like an emotional rollercoaster ride, slowly bringing us to the top, then quickly crashing to the bottom.....Great reaction!!!
David Draiman has a certain rhythmic quality to his vocals that may feel somewhat familiar to you as a rap guy. He doesn't really rap, but he's definitely a chopper. Hard to explain, but you should check out some of Disturbed's other stuff, like Stupify, Voices, The Game, Stricken, Land of Confusion, Are You Ready...
So glad your checking this out, I have listened to this so many times& watched reactions. This man is just great, Disturbed are brilliant, this is not his normal stuff. He has concerts where you bring the whole family including kids, he’s amazing ❤
I grew up listening to the original thanks to my mom loving it but when Disturbed did their cover, it hit me hard. I still get chills every time I hear it and the one time I've seen them perform it in concert I was actually in tears. There are so many other amazing Disturbed songs I could suggest that range from this to Down With the Sickness. LOL Some of my favorites are "The Light", "Ten Thousand Fists", "Land of Confusion" (also a cover), "Fear", "Hold on to Memories", "A Reason to Fight"....heck, I could go on and on.....
Prayer is still my fav Disturbed song but this is a close second, also helps that Disturbed is my fav metal band. Davids vocals are just unreal. on another note congrats to Ren on hitting no1 so happy for him and his team❤
Simon and Garfunkel did this in 1964, I went and had a listen to the original and the lyrics are the same. I absolutely love this version, it's so iconic. Disturbed is one of my partners favorite bands of all time, it's a tie between them and Metallica. ❤
The original 'The Sound of Silence' is iconic in the same way 'Imagine' is. A song of THAT generation hoping for peace and change. It captured the zeitgeist (the spirit) of the nation / times in the same way 'North of Richmond' recently did.
Thanks for your reaction. If you get a chance, watch the live performance of this iconic song covered by Disturbed on Conan O'Brien's show--I think it's even better.
@@genny5309 exactly that one. That's the first live version you see when searching for the song. But couldn't remember on what Chanel ore where it was recorded, Thanks!!
I was born and raised in Baltimore. I am 44. We lived on the radio. Thankfully i had oldies, Rap, R&B, pop, rock, heavy metal. I know them all. I Appreciate watching people when they are just starting to go into different genres. Music is awesome.
Always fun to see what seeps into you. Excellent cover, Disturbed seriously owns this. Just like Johnny Cash's "Hurt" may be the same lyrics of Nine Inch Nails' original, he totally owns the cover. This one sounds so different than Simon and Garfunkel even if it's the same lyrics. Down a similar path, I still look forward to you checking out the official video of "Deutschland" by Rammstein. (Pull up English captions, please). Not my usual genre 9f music, but the video is like a short film.
The original song was released in 1964 by Simon and Garfunkel. Though it was solely written by Paul Simon. Disturbed did not change any of the lyrics. I loved the original when I was a kid but Disturbed's version is just so epic. Even Paul Simon himself likes their version which says a lot, as he is normally very critical of any covers of his songs.
Beautiful song. Amazing version. Check out more Simon and Garfunkle, their music is quite special....much love BP, started following you through a Ren reaction, and I'm staying, 🎉 By the way the lyrics are original, brilliant, and amazingly executed in this version. Very apt now, as was then when Paul Simon wrote it
BP, glad that you are checking out this song, Sound of Silence (SoS) . (Love you and noticed that you seemed tired or busy and not able to comprehend or research music more fully, lately). Like others, I started my journey down the rabbit hole with music reactors with SoS. Here is a comment that I would post on people doing reactions to OA's RMNoR: When I first heard of Disturb's "Sound of Silence", I had thought that would be an anthem or rallying cry. But, OA's RMNoR seems to be a more timely one. I would Love to see Disturb's David Draimon do a cover or interpretation of Rich Men North of Richmond. Use stuff from Sound of Silence and Down with the Sickness. Can you arrange that? Note. I will always love the original. I just think we can use more versions. 🙂❤
This version gives me chills every time I hear it. What really is the biggest approval to this version is that after Paul Simon heard it, he said that the song now belongs to Disturbed. They did such an amazing rendition of the song.
Originally written by Paul Simon circa 1963 ... released in 1964 ... Simon and Garfunkel ... one of their best works ... Cheers from an 72 year old rocker
The lyrics are timeless. People have said the original by Simon and Garfunkel was sung as a cautionary warning, the cover by Pentatonix is hopeful that the message has been received, but that the cover by Disturbed is angry because the warning has been ignored.
It has NOT been rewritten. As far as I can tell the lyrics are word for word with the original. The difference between the two is that Simon and Garfunkel's version is softer and more of a folk song. David Draiman and Disturbed made it harder and a bit more aggressive. This is one of their more mellow tunes. They performed this live on the Conan O'Brien show and Paul Simon contacted them after complimenting them on the performance. Talk about a gift!
People are so speechless when they hear this song, it’s very spiritual. Silence to me here means so many things. The silence of tranquility and authenticity in the beginning, and the silence caused by materialism, urbanisation, disconnection…silence that “cancer grows” in the middle of the song, and the silence we need for us the hear the warnings and signs bringing us back to ourselves, the silence that is ourselves. This song is a prophet.
Those are the original lyrics from the Simon & Garfunkel version. The way I feel with both versions is that Simon & Garfunkel's version was a warning. Disturbed's version is sheer anger & frustration that the warning wasn't heeded. As much as I love the original version of Sound of Silence. Disturbed's cover just blew it all out of the water & it makes me cry and gives me chills every single time I listen to it. If I remember correctly, in an interview, David (lead singer, Disturbed) said that Paul Simon told him that he was so moved by their cover that the song is basically theirs now. Disturbed's cover of this song is actually what got me into the group. :-)
The original song was in 1964. The lead singer sang it due to someone he knew committed suicide and he also has very bad depression. He talks openly about his depression. He encourages their fans at shows to seek help if they have thoughts of suicide or depression.
This song was originally written and sung by Simon and Garfunkel in the 60's..their version was a little more, for lack of a better way of putting it, upbeat, but was sort of a warning of what technology was going to do to people's face to face interactions with each other. Never connecting face to face..only reading and texting..i.e. sound of silence. Disturbed's version is the anger of what it has done..the I told you so,but you didn't listen..i.e. but my words, like silent raindrops fell. This version cuts right to your soul, and I grew up with Simon and Garfunkel..loved their music. But this is DEEP, and truly gets the point across. Thank you, B.P. for this reaction.
BEST COVER EVER! Disturbed is a FANTASTIC band! That dudes range is insane…saw them in concert years ago. Such an amazing show. But yea this gives me goose bumps every time I hear it! Thanks for reacting.
The song was written in the 60s around the time of the war in Vietnam. There were subways then, lmao. This song was a warning for the world, and it was not heeded. Now this version is more powerful and admonishing us all for not heeding the warning. Humanity needs us to be present and do better. Not stand by and let terrible things happen.
"I like that. That was tight!" Great reaction. Don't need to know the song/history to give a reaction. This was on another level for sure. Simon/Garfunkle's original version was more of a warning. This is like a battle cry.
Just a quick history note on Subways and Tenements. The first Tenements in New York were built between 1820 and 1830 while the first subway in the US was built in Boston between 1895 and 1897. As others mentioned the song was is from 1965. The Simon and Garfunkel version is a different vibe but worth the listen. The tone of the original is more of a warning while Disturbed's version feels like the anger that no one listened.
The original words are the exact words in this version. Those words were prophetic but the tone at the time of the original was more of an early whisper of the breakdown in inter personal communication and the growing distancing of relationships. Today this song hits home as it is an extremely accurate view of the divide in society today. By the way the original artists for this song were Simon & Garfunkel, and was written written by Paul Simon. It was released in 1964 and soared to the top of the charts with its smooth harmonies. BTW Yes, their were tenements and subway walls, and yes they had graffiti on the walls. I know because I was there. Disturbed's version is more of a call to action plus an affirmation that music will break through the miasma that has people in thrall. You may like their video Disturbed - "The Light" It is worth a listen.
Simon and Garfunkel first recorded this March 10 1964..... the warning. Disturbed revamped this and made it a cutting accusation that the warning has not been and is not being heeded! 03/28/16 - same song, live on Conan - and David Draiman was sick!!!
This is a cover of the song by Simon and Garfunkel - I grew up knowing the original - thought of it as a anti Viêt Nam war song - very gentle and moving then Disturbed to it up to a battle cry . Awesome .
As an oldie who grew up on the original Simon and Garfunkel, to @blackpegasus, you really need to listen to the original to truly appreciate what Disturbed did with their version. The Disturbed is (IMHO) the gold standard for Sound of Silence. They did a phenomenal upgrade to this timeless and relevant classic.
I've seen Disturbed in concert here in Colorado and in Germany. One of the only metal concerts I've been to where the music lives up to the hype of seeing it live. He is amazing, go get lost in the other songs!
as someone who lived thru both eras i can tell you that these original lyrics are even more true today than they were in 1965 .

Paul Simon has actually said in interviews that this version is what he would’ve wanted to make and in his true version
Well said!
Those are the original lyrics....timeless and finite.
this is possibly the best cover of any song ive ever heard personally, my father was a big fan of the original which is the only reason why i even know it was a cover, as i ended up really enjoying the song too. Disturbs cover of this song is one of my all time favorite songs ever and it never fails to give me goose bumbs, his voice is otherworldly
You should check out Heart's cover of Stairway to Heaven live at the Kennedy Center Honors in 2012. If you haven't seen it already?
@brilyman, Johnny Cash did a cover of Hurt, which is as good, if not, better than Disturbed's, The Sound Of Silence.
Eva Cassidy sang a cover of Fileds Of Gold which also is as good as Disturbed's version of The Sound Of Silence.
Nonetheless, Disturbed did an amazing job of covering this song.
@@MathewBall johnny cash is not for me my friend hahaha, and eva cassidy's fields of gold i'll give you, i think thats also a really good song, and funnily enough also one of my dads favourites lmao
I'm partial to Sinaed O Connor's cover of "Nothing Compares to You" originally by Prince.
Pretty woman by Van Halen was pretty epic.
I heard someone say that the Simon and Garfunkel version makes you think and this version makes you feel - I agree. I prefer this version. They also performed it live on Conon and it's incredible (especially since David Draiman was sick when he performed.) The lyrics are the same as the original.
The way I heard it was: "Simon and Garfunkel's version is a warning. Disturbed's version is the rage that the warning went ignored."
@@TheSyncos Yes! Exactly this.
This is my favorite version of this song. Disturbed just really knocked it out of the park. The lyrics are all the same and very powerful. This one is just incredible!
Distributed 😂
@@Chris-rh9ej auto correct sometimes sucks
@@alexiaspaedt-mcintosh5311 I know it was just funny when I read it. Have a good one
His rendition of this on the Conan show was unbelievable!!!
This song was written by Paul Simon and Art Garfunkle of Simon and Garfunkle. It was written in 1964. There was no changes to the lyrics. This is just a beautiful cover that was respectfully done by Disturbed!
Agreed 👍 👍
David's voice on this song is just so damn magical!
Best version of this song ever. Haunting. And the orchestra, man it builds and hits. Thanks for reacting to this awesome rendition of a folk classic
Same lyrics - same tune - sung with such power - a GREAT cover!!!
I remember walking along an empty beach in wales on a cold day off season with my Walkman and Simon and Garfunkel my only tape. I did not think I could love any cover more than the original. Then This. Blew my mind. Get don in here!!!
You have to check the live version of this song by Disturbed. You really feel the grit.
@@Amy_just_loves_music i think him being ill added something to the sound, the stuffy sound just added to the soul
And the Pentatonix cover/arrangement (despite being exactly the same words) expresses hope that the warning will still be heeded.
I LOVE this song!!! ❤ I’m so glad you reacted to it!!! His voice is insane!!
Simon and Garfunkel's version is also in a minor key. Simon and Garfunkel in D# minor and Disturbed in F# minor.
I predict you're gonna love this BP. David Draiman has got a set of pipes!
You got to hear the LIVE version of this song...Live on Conan--it's even more awesome!
Yea ngl i prefer this version too.
The live version he did is crazy good too. And i might even like that one even better then this one.
@@Danny_R_ After all these years, I've never heard a live version. Guess I'm going to have to with that recommendation 😉. Thanks Danny 👍.
I remember the first time I heard I heard this, it had such an effect on me I cried my eyes out, it just hit me right there ❤
They only changed one word, "disturbed" the sound of silence. The reason they have so many views is if you know the original which is already brilliant but then this version which is giving you the shivers because we are right there of what Simon and Garfunkel was warning us decades ago, it hits even more. That combined with his absolutely perfect and powerful voice........ comoooooonnnn!!!
You need to do the live version from Conan O'brien's late night show. David had the flu but sang it so amazingly well, you will get chills.
The original is from Simon & Garfunkel and these are Paul Simon’s lyrics. This song was released in the mid 60’s (1964-1965)
disturbed is a prolific band with many albums, 'down with the sickness' was their biggest hit on their first album, it probably sticks out to u the most bc it was on the radio forever and was used in everything from commercials to movies, i definitely recommend diving into thier discography, its great stuff.
I was 16 when I first this, in 1968 or so, and I remember
thinking to myself I would be listening to it when I was
old. I was right. I’m 70 and still here. Paul Simon wrote
this, word for word.
David Dramen has an incredible voice. A deep dive into Disturbed is a great experience. Try “Stupify” next.
Ren hit No1 in the UK BP!! 😁😁
🥳🥳🥳
I didn't know that.
Now, I do 😊
Your facial reactions say it all !!!
Absolutely brilliant cover. Love Davids voice
I do love the original Simon and Garfunkel version. But I feel Disturbed's vision brings the meaning to light more it hits so differently.
Agreed. This was the first song I learned on guitar when I was young. I loved the original. This does it justice and yet brings something new to it.
One of my favorite covers of all time 🖤
Now you need to listen to the Simon & Garfunkel version it’s amazing 👍🏽✌🏼🐷
Simon and Garfunkel did this in 1964, I went and had a listen to the original and the lyrics are the same. I absolutely love this version, it's so iconic. Disturbed is one of my partners favorite bands of all time, it's a tie between them and Metallica. ❤
Thank you for that. 👍❤ I was wondering myself since he asked😂
Three more of my favorites from Disturbed are
'Ten Thousand Fists'
'Indestructible'
'Land of Confusion'
All of them are fire! Please react to them
The original 'The Sound of Silence' is iconic in the same way 'Imagine' is. A song of THAT generation hoping for peace and change. It captured the zeitgeist (the spirit) of the nation / times in the same way 'North of Richmond' recently did.
Original is The SoundS of Silence
NOT RE-WRITTEN. The original must be listened to as well - the words are both poetic & prophetic. I didn't think I'd like this but I do.
Thanks for your reaction. If you get a chance, watch the live performance of this iconic song covered by Disturbed on Conan O'Brien's show--I think it's even better.
I listened to this version of this song almost every day. Until Ren happened. Disturbed are from my hometown of Chicago. Peace, brother!
I personally think in the live version his voice is even more powerful
The most common one people watch is from a performance on Conan.
Hitting another serious classic, cover of a classic. 💕👍🦇
I grew up hearing the original and I have to say that this is even better. His voice is absolute perfection!
Today 20th. Oct. 2023, Ren is No1 in the UK Album Charts with Sick Boi" 👏😊
WELL DESERVED TOO!🎉🎉
The original song was released in 1964 by Simon and Garfunkel.
Check out more Simon and Garfunkle, their music is quite special....much love BP, started following you through a Ren reaction, and I'm staying, 🎉
By the way the lyrics are original, brilliant, and amazingly executed in this version.
Here is a comment that I would post on people doing reactions to OA's RMNoR:
When I first heard of Disturb's "Sound of Silence", I had thought that would be an anthem or rallying cry. 🙂❤
Simon and Garfunkle did the original! Disturbs live version is even better than this!
First came out, in 1964. They've not rewritten anything. S&G were well before their time!
This version gives me chills every time I hear it. What really is the biggest approval to this version is that after Paul Simon heard it, he said that the song now belongs to Disturbed. They did such an amazing rendition of the song.
Such an amazing cover! You should check out Disturbed's Reason to Fight (live official) - very powerful song talking about mental health ❤❤
this version gives me the chills every time i hear it
Originally written by Paul Simon circa 1963 ... released in 1964 ... Simon and Garfunkel ... one of their best works ... Cheers from an 72 year old rocker
This is one rendition of the song that gives me wave after wave of chills and goosebumps every time. No matter how many times I hear it.
Love this song Love this guy He's the best sometimes the songs more better by the covers than the originals.
The lyrics are timeless. People have said the original by Simon and Garfunkel was sung as a cautionary warning, the cover by Pentatonix is hopeful that the message has been received, but that the cover by Disturbed is angry because the warning has been ignored.
I loved this cover. It gives me chills, & is so different from their other stuff. His voice is perfect for the lyrics.
These are the original lyrics. My Mom is a Simon and Garfunkel huge fan, and she was impressed by this.
8:25 the London Subway dates back to the 1860s; neither tenements nor subways are new.
GIVES YOU CHILLS. This band are super talented. The rest of Disturbed songs are much heavier but so dope!!!
BP. There were subways in the 60 and 70’s in NYc. Good job.
