As others have already commented the word he's elongating at 15:45, which you came back to several times later, is: 'Tefached' which means be afraid, so not exactly about insanity but rather perhaps the consequence of it. Wow I haven’t listened to Believe in probably 15 years, but your comment took me immediately back to the awesome chorus of Remember. One of their very best for sure! I know what album I’m jamming today
The musicians in Disturbed are excellent and should not be overlooked. Perfect with David's voice, they work together and compliment each other. LOVE this band! And they're not afraid to try new things, they really love the music, won't settle for doing the same thing forever.
I think if you managed to get him to " join you for tea", Elisabeth, you would find that David has had a very interesting, and difficult vocal journey story. He essentially had to relearn and teach himself to sing within his limits after incurring some vocal damage on tour. But he put in the hard work, dedicated himself to his craft, and became a better and healthier singer/vocalist for it. Thank you for always doing YOUR " homework", Elisabeth, and keeping an open mind, and appreciating the endless myriad of vocal talents, in all there wonderful varieties out there! Brilliant lyrical imagery.
David is one of the best!! “The Night” and “Stricken” are great choices that show off David’s range and the bands playing. Moreover, “Darkness” is a beautiful ballad with his emotional vocals front and center
So glad you gave David Draiman a more in depth look. He really is an amazing vocalist. His ability to use a seemingly distorted vocal so cleanly is very unique. Very powerful.
As a huge fan of Disturbed for over 20 years, I am glad you found and appreciate them. I am sorry you missed out on the last 3 decades. It is awesome to see people who really understand and appreciate music to recognize how incredible he is as a vocalist.
Yup same here! I saw this video summer 2000, bought the CD that September then saw them live for the first time that October. I wandered to their website and on to their message board and met people that I’m still friends with today there. Two I consider my sisters. 😊
I can't say it enough. I love seeing people discover the greatness I have appreciated for so long. It's a feeling of connection that I've always wanted, but didn’t realize it at the time.
My favorite song by Disturbed is "Stricken", but a great example of David's versatility in being able to switch from clean to animalistic gutteral vocals can be demonstrated in the song "The Animal"... impressive to say the least
The fact that you want to delve deeper, follow the band further, is why we love you. And you do not just react, you take deep dives. Everything deserves a deep dive.
This song is such a perfect example of his signature staccato vocal style. Even to this day and their newest releases he still sings that way, it's awesome.
Prayer is one of my faves his presence in that video is just wow! He just has a very powerful presence idk how else to say it. But I love it and can't forget striken is really good too.
The whole “Believe (2002)” album is one of my favorites in terms of both lyricism and more “ballads” with some metal sprinkled in. Also the cover looks cool.
You are hands down the best react channel - you have enthusiasm, joy, a hunger for understanding and provide insightful commentary every time. Top notch! Keep doing what you're doing.
I appreciate that you admit it’s better for the channel to visit a band once and move on, but you’d rather take the time to revisit bands and dive deeper. The fact that you do deep dives over multiple videos is why I keep coming back to your channel, and I really respect you for staying true to yourself.
This song’s arrangement on the album makes for an even deeper experience as “Stupify” leads into “Down With The Sickness” which may help to capture David’s intention for the relationship between the songs even better. Really great stuff!
My favourite thing about the "I think I'm breaking down" line is that Draiman sings it as an onomatopoeia - the separation of the syllables there is just stunning!
Not specific to this video but the thing I absolutely LOVE about your videos is how enthusiastically open-minded you are coming in to every single video and how you find something - anything - to make note of that I as a maybe long-time listener may not have even picked up the first time around. Much love and prosperity to you and your channel! ♥️♥️♥️
Id love to see you review their song "Inside The Fire" Aside from the vocals and music being quite typical of the band from that time, the lyrics are fascinating
Going back to watch this again, knowing more about David the person, really gives a new appreciation for his artistry. Also, having you make sense of the musicality and reason as to why I'm so affected by certain songs...the anticipated builds, the underlying fury, has allowed me to revisit certain pieces of mysic that have been powerful for me throughout my life with a greater respect and value.
Dave is amazing, definitely one of the most precise metal vocalists. Every scream, growl, etc is replicated sentence to sentence so precisely to give a regular sound an rhythm.
One of the first disturbed tracks I’ve heard back then, great choice! 🔥🔥 Can’t wait til you check out voices, darkness, stricken, and many more of his best vocal performances!
The Draiman Demon voice he uses is one of the most effective voice explosives in music. It is iconic and well known for grabbing you out of your socks while also encouraging you to be disturbed and yet rage with him. People that just know that one part from Down With the Sickness, the ooo wah ah ah ah, will always hear it and repeat it. So it's awesome to see you react to that in here as well, because it's most recognizable as simply a thing that he does with his music.
I think that Down With The Sickness has one of the very best drum riffs in rock history. My dad brought me to my 1st rock concert in July 1964, at age 7.
I think David's vocal monster is represented by their "mascot", The Guy. It's also amazing seeing someone discover songs from your favorite band for the first time. Can't wait for more!
I’m so glad Disturbed, Korn, Godsmack, Rob Zombie, and System Of A Down, Slipknot (and many more) were the bands I grew up listening to as a kid. Watching your reactions/analyses of them gives me such a better appreciation for them though!
My dad listened to a lot of rock and metal but there were only like 4 bands I thought were consistently good that he listened to. Those were System of A Down, Rammestein, Disturbed, and Three Days Grace. I like a lot of other bands he listened to but these were the ones I liked the most.
The word he is saying in the bridge is “Tefached” which in Hebrew means “you will fear” or “you will be afraid” Thanks for bringing such a musical education into metal. And for showing such an appreciation for David’s vocal talents. He’s one of metals best vocalists. You really need to see them live!!!!
I've been listening to this song since I was in 8th grade and I'm now nearly 31 and never knew this, that's so cool! Thank you so much for sharing that!!
I am going to be 60 years old and listening to this song and singing along with it, makes me feel calmer, it pops in my head during times of anxiety due to the ignorance of others and it's funny how music can either ramp you up or calm you down. I see how you seemed to feel more anxiety during this and it scared you and for me it's different. The aggression, sadness, anger, angst, hysteria and almost madness of this song with David's voice along with the amazing music helps me take control of the stress and anxiety I have inside at times. After all these years it still pops in my head and I will sing the entire song in my head along with the screams and it calms me down and I feel less stressed. Music saves, even music that sounds scary to others :) I love your vocal analysis channel. :)
I noticed the same thing. Each time the vocals made her jump was when I would feel a sudden release of tension from my back and chest. It's funny how music affects all of us differently. I'm 44 and discovered metal back around 1990. I fell in love with Metallica's "Master of Puppets" album. Then I discovered Nine Inch Nails "Broken" EP and fell in love with Industrial music, too. I've been entranced with both genres, and their many crossovers and variants, ever since. I'm one of the people who can say with all honesty that metal saved my life.
@@MerianyaS I love it. My 50th birthday wish was to see NIN and Soundgarden together and my husband made that happen. I am from Illinois and got many opportunities to see Disturbed when they were a newly formed band and will love them always. I love bands like Spiritbox which is definitely more scream metal yet I still love and listen to The Carpenters and love my Shaman's Harvest which is more Southern Rock. Music does save, thanks for sharing your story!
The meaning behind this song always gets me emotionally. When I first heard this song I didn't realize the meaning. I absolutely love Disturbed, listening to them throughout my teenage years helped with my depression from abuse and loss.
I just love her face when he went into the chanting and every time he makes *his* sound...........I can't freaking WAIT until she does The Sickness 😂. I really hope she also does both Disturbeds version of Stricken and then the version David's brother did.
I truly appreciate someone who wants to explore an artist, not just listening to them once, but analyze the different layers in metal/rock. Thank you so much, I love this channel. 😊
Fun fact: Tefached is Hebrew and roughly translates to "be afraid" or "you will fear", I loved this and look forward to more metal from you. That said, I'd love to see you look into Dir en Grey, specifically, their song Vinushka. It's incredibly powerful and heartwrenching all at once.
bump? can I do that here? lol. I think she should also look into Malice Mizer's au revoir, It's not so much like metal, but it's still rock and I think she'd love the voice of Gackt
David has a nice vocal presence with different ranges. Wether he sings heavy medium or soft it all sounds great. I also like his signature raspy vibrato he does.
Just discovered this channel & subbed - you've rejuvenated my love for alot of nu-metal bands & songs I've been adoring for years - Seeing your joy & emotions is like me rediscovering them all over again - SO THANK YOU! (I would go with "VERBAL DEMON" for David Draiman's "gutteral vocals"!!)
David and Disturbed was my first real intro into the world of rock/metal music. I will forever love all of their music. On a side note you need to also do a Sleep Token reaction. "The Summoning" by them shows such a vocal range of this new generation of music. You see the inspirations they've taken from all of the older bands.
I would LOVE to see Elizabeth react to a somewhat similar band that came out around the same time called Static-X. I think she'd really like Wayne's voice
One of my favorite songs of theirs is called Remember. It's one of their older ones, but I think it really demonstrates Davids voice in an exceptional way. Plus, its just a really good song.
So many great songs, “Just Stop” is in my top five. This is the meaning behind it: “About a situation where your other half is always trying to come up with reasons to argue with you and you are constantly apologizing, and constantly asking for forgiveness, over and over again, and the frustration that comes with it. The song is asking “that person” to just stop.”
I had the pleasure of seeing Disturbed when they toured this album over 20 years ago. They were a spectacular show even back then, and even through the headbanging, the music gave me chills. One of the best live performances I've been to. I can only imagine what two more decades of practicing their craft has done, and I would love to see them again. David is an absolute beast of a vocalist, definately top tier, not just in rock but in the music industry.
Love them since their first album. Lots and lots of great songs, but truly moving is "Inside the fire". Message and amount of emotions Is just enormous. Will love to hear you experience it.
I first heard this song when it released and immediately knew this band was going places. Not one album has failed to speak to people. Their first 4 albums helped me get through a tough breakup, especially with songs like Deceiver and Sacrifice. They spoke to me in one of my darkest places and helped me accept and deal with my depression. Please, please, please try to have tea with him!
It's always interesting to hear you dig so deep into these artists, songs, and vocals that I've heard so many times. I've been listening to Disturbed since I was a kid, and have heard them and this song may many times over, such that I really don't give the vocals a second thought at this point. It's nice to get a fresh perspective and reminder of how awesome this music really is.
So many good Disturbed songs.. :) He would be another great interview too. Has done a good job protecting his voice through a lot of switching between clean and harsh vocals
Disturbed's whole catalog is amazing, but many amazing songs get overlooked. My personal favorite is one called, "Haunted" that was off their fourth album. I'd love to see you react and and do an analysis of that song.
What I love about this channel, other than absolutely everything, is Elizabeth's knowledge and recognition of ability. It doesn't have to be music or technique you like to recognise and admire incredible ability. Also the emotion and expressions... those are pretty funny too :D Loved this!
One of the big appeals of this song to many Disturbed fans is the balance of the smooth and the harsh sections of the song - his ability to make both sides sound beautiful is what many of us love about his voice. And I think I've said it before, but for something really surreal after listening to Disturbed, look up Ben Draiman's cover of Stricken. It's David's brother, doing a cover of one of Disturbed's songs, and it's amazing how different it is from the original.
I love that she pointed out something new to me in the first min or 2 of this song. I've been listening to this song for over a decade! Never realized the keyboard in this song
When I first heard Disturbed, I liked it. I didn't appreciate it for what it was, though. The "screaming' was all I really heard at first, but the more I listened, the more I realized there was a lot of nuance in his voice. He actually "sang," and moved between clean and distortion; and his enunciation is very strong and clear. The newer "Sound of Silence," "Hold on to Memories" and others really bring out his talent and range.
This man is a vocal beast. I thought I knew this song, you made me realize how much I didn’t notice about it!! Being a musician that has played this a million times, it’s an eye opener!! ✌🏻🤟🏻🤘🏻
23 years ago I got to see them live in New Jersey. This song had just hit radio for only like a month. They were the main event and one of the opening acts was tap root. It was a massive biker bar they performed at. So at the bar before they were performing they actually got some drinks and talked to folks. Such an amazing peformance. wow I was 26.. Time flies eh. :)
DD's voice to me is so elastic, he can go from the growl of growls to soaring and sweeping melodic, but I think what I like most is his cadence with lyrics and how he rhythmically uses his voice.
A very unique voice David has! Underrated vocalist! Nice to hear Disturbed again! Thanks Elizabeth for your insightful analysis! 🤘🏼🎤🎶👍🏻 Cheers, Mike L 😎🇨🇦✌🏼
God I loved this song as a young kid as this album (along with Hybrid Theory) is what developed my love for Rock. Draiman has such power and "that demon" you referred to is exactly what he can do. I remember reading this song is about breaking off an engagement due to the stress the woman was putting on the man to get married and the man wanting to have sex before marriage. They couldn't get over the difference and lost their eventual marriage.
I just love their music. "Voices", "The Vengeful One", "Indestructible" and "Stricken" would be some great ones to react to. If you're familiar with Phil Collins, which I think you've reacted to before. Disturbed did a cool cover of "Land Of Confusion" utilizing David's "WackaWacka Monster" 😁. I don't know but talking about the monster name I just thought of the "WackaWacka Monster". 😂
@@Cookie82608 LOL No, Elizabeth was talking about how David would do that growl and she said it sounded like a monster and was trying to think of names for the monster. Because of her talking about how vocal folds go WackaWackaWacka, I thought "WackaWacka Monster" would be a funny name for David's growl monster.
I always greatly enjoy these deep dive analysis videos, introducing us to music we maybe haven't heard before, or just music we love and want to share the enjoyment of! It's so fascinating and awesome to hear the analysis from a professional vocal coach with such a great personality. You rock, Elizabeth! 😊
I quite enjoy and find it interesting how Elizabeth is critiquing, experiencing and discovering this song for the first time. I remember when I first heard this song...I was instantly hooked (boy I was young then...lol). This, and Down With the Sickness, was my introduction to Disturbed. Her comments regarding a sense of insanity, are spot on. It's a conflict, an inner conflict, often is the most detrimental, from outside pressures. I must admit, my favorite part of the song is the break section whereby there's clearly a very different and exotic sound (15:23). Hebrew, connecting us to David's roots. I love Elizabeth's expression when she first hears this part...I think in her head she's thinking whoa...whats going on here (but very impressed)? Who would have thought this would work....but it's executed in such a way...that it's flawless and fits perfectly within a modern hard rock style. The song writing and vocal delivery are amazing in this song! This was released I think in 2000, so you can imagine what grounds were broken at that time with this sound! I own many albums from Disturbed but this album still is by far one of their best hand down. Still to do this day, a big fan. 😎🤘
Whilst all of Distrubeds' songs are great, one single that doesn't get enough credit is 'the light'. An emotional ballad that showcases the clean power of Davids' voice nad how well the band gels together. Got me through some very tough times when I was inside my own head.
“The Animal” is also a great example, heavy vocals transitions right to powerful clean vocals. There’s so many others, I have been listening to “The Curse” a lot. The cadence of the chorus is just fantastic. I have a chance to see them live for the first time in May, I might have to bite the bullet and go.
Agreed, I loved it and listened a lot to it when it came out, little annoying it's not on spotify, otherwise i'd listen to it even more (well there's a live version, but for some reason not the normal version), really good and powerful song
There’s just so many songs of theirs that hit so hard and differently for people it’s difficult to pick just one! even the wildly different ‘uninvited guest’ 😂.
I saw Disturbed when they played their FIRST EVER show at a bar called "Champs" on the Southside of Chicago. I have seen them at least 20 times since then. With the first 15 times being before they were signed and we're still "playing out" on the Chicago Music Club scene.
Their cover of the song Shout is amazing as well. I was probably 16 or 17 when this album came out and I listened to it over and over. I even got to see him live a few years back. It was the first concert they did after quite a long hiatus. It was amazing... All except it was an outdoor venue and the neighbouring farmer decided to spread manure on his field during the show and the smell was rather atrocious. All David had to say about that was "Mr. Farmer.... ROCK ON!" Such a classy dude.
Imagine being able to listen to this again for the first time.
Yeah the whole album for the 1st time again. 😊. Great album.

David is one of the best!! “The Night” and “Stricken” are great choices that show off David’s range and the bands playing. Moreover, “Darkness” is a beautiful ballad with his emotional vocals front and center
Yes I agree
Those are some excellent suggestions.
Replace the night with Deceiver
Stricken is one of my all-time faves!!
The Night is so much better
So glad you gave David Draiman a more in depth look. He really is an amazing vocalist. His ability to use a seemingly distorted vocal so cleanly is very unique. Very powerful.
"Stricken" is a banger as well that really highlights them musically and Draiman's vocals.
As a huge fan of Disturbed for over 20 years, I am glad you found and appreciate them. I am sorry you missed out on the last 3 decades. It is awesome to see people who really understand and appreciate music to recognize how incredible he is as a vocalist.
One of my favorites to see live! Whole crowd sang along to this one - could almost see the air shake from the power.
"May you fall more in love with music every day", what a beautiful sentence! 💛
Tracheal Terror?
I've been a fan of Disturbed since this originally came out...Jesus, has it really been 23 years🤯
It's absolutely mind-bottling!! lol
Stop making me feel old.
Yup same here! I saw this video summer 2000, bought the CD that September then saw them live for the first time that October. I wandered to their website and on to their message board and met people that I’m still friends with today there. Two I consider my sisters. 😊
I thought it was album of the year by a mile.
Same here. I was around 11 years old and here I am still listening to them regularly on shuffle on Spotify
Disturbed have lots of great songs. Some big early songs of theirs are "Prayer" and "Remember"
'Mistress', 'Voices', 'The Game', 'Dropping Plates'....ok....ALL OF THEIR SONGS.....just all of them
Remember is my favorite song off the second album.
These are my two favorites!
Darkness will always be my favourite, I love Disturbed.
Believe is still my favorite Disturbed album
@@timelessninja +1
Agreed.
YES!
The combination of the world's religious symbols, combined into one. The booklet that shows what each symbol is separately. One of my favorites.
Disturbed is one of those rare bands that doesn't really have a bad song. I have been a big fan since their first album.
A drawback is that a ton of their songs sound the same
To each their own. Personally I feel everything after Asylum has been half baked at best. Some of it's just cringe man.
.... Not to be an ass, but I completely disagree.
I totally agree! Like I have my favorites of course but I can jam out to Any Song in their discography

Voice Box Monster, IMO.
Love his vocal range. So much talent.
David is really one of the voices of the modern age 😅 Jokes aside, he has a very distinct voice that he didn't lost with time, which is super cool. Still excited for their new stuff all these years later.
OW WAH AH AH AH ©
He uses Autotune
@@stevethomas1301 he's had auto tuned microphones against his will in some cases, yes.
Speaking of voices…that’s a banger of a song. (Voices)
@@stevethomas1301 no? you've literally never produced vocals in your entire life lmfao
... Ohhh Ohhh... Ohh Ohh
The way Dave can rip his voice at will is one of the most amazing vocal acrobatics in music. All hail!
This song’s arrangement on the album makes for an even deeper experience as “Stupify” leads into “Down With The Sickness” which may help to capture David’s intention for the relationship between the songs even better. Really great stuff!
The light and uninvited guest are two amazing songs that really show off David's voice
Oh yeah the Light is definitely a good showcase of his voice
I can't wait! I LOVE Stupify. The whole first album is straight fire.
My favourite thing about the "I think I'm breaking down" line is that Draiman sings it as an onomatopoeia - the separation of the syllables there is just stunning!
Another one back to my misbegotten youth! I love how wholesomely enamoured you are with his voice, great stuff!
I takes a pro like Elisabeth to reveal that metal really can be complex, genius, nuanced and remarkably artisitic.
Not specific to this video but the thing I absolutely LOVE about your videos is how enthusiastically open-minded you are coming in to every single video and how you find something - anything - to make note of that I as a maybe long-time listener may not have even picked up the first time around. Much love and prosperity to you and your channel! ♥️♥️♥️
The thing I’ve always loved about David Drainman is his ability to pierce through the music and not have to sing over the top of the instruments.
Id love to see you review their song "Inside The Fire"
Aside from the vocals and music being quite typical of the band from that time, the lyrics are fascinating
Yes, I agree 100%. One of my favorites by them. Also a sad backstory.
Draiman Demon is pretty good too.
I think that Down With The Sickness has one of the very best drum riffs in rock history.
My dad brought me to my 1st rock concert in July 1964, at age 7.
I love how you get so passionate and expressive with these breakdowns. You are such a joy to watch!!
Oh thank you!
The word he is saying in the bridge is “Tefached” which in Hebrew means “you will fear” or “you will be afraid”
Thanks for bringing such a musical education into metal. And for showing such an appreciation for David’s vocal talents. He’s one of metals best vocalists. You really need to see them live!!!!

Hey, she did already "Down with the Sickness" (the cleaned version...)
David Draiman is honestly my favorite vocalist of all time. He is so perfect for what he does. I'd love to be able to sing like him.
Yes!! Love Wayne’s voice!!
Yes! Definitely Static-x
I have been waiting for her to react to Static-X!
i love how the internet found a pretty opera singer and go it in their heads to make her a metalhead!
The most unique voice in metal. I love Wayne static!!
I would recommend as the next track from Disturbed is their Land of Confusion cover!
Probably favorite track of theirs!
One of my favorite songs of theirs is called Remember. It's one of their older ones, but I think it really demonstrates Davids voice in an exceptional way. Plus, its just a really good song.
That is also probably my favorite song from Disturbed.
So many great songs, “Just Stop” is in my top five.
This is the meaning behind it:
“About a situation where your other half is always trying to come up with reasons to argue with you and you are constantly apologizing, and constantly asking for forgiveness, over and over again, and the frustration that comes with it. The song is asking “that person” to just stop.”
Love that track and the whole Believe album 🔥
I'm looking forward to finally seeing Disturbed later this year.
Will love to hear you experience it.
probably my fav disturbed song really puts his range on full display
I love David's staccato and precise enunciation.
Precise enunciation? LMAO. He pronounces FUCK as FAULK. And not by accident.
@@toolologist6274 Maybe I mean the rhythm? Not sure how to describe it, but he has that staccato and very clear delivery.
This was my intro to Disturbed. I got to see them live in a small venue in Tulsa Oklahoma in 2001 and they’re amazing freakin live!
15:23 this part never fails to give me chills. that instrumental and then the drop. chefs kiss.
I can't believe you still listen to this:
Disturbed is just as fun live in concert. Seen David, twice, so far.
Stay blessed ✌️🙏
Disturbed's whole catalog is amazing, but many amazing songs get overlooked. My personal favorite is one called, "Haunted" that was off their fourth album. I'd love to see you react and and do an analysis of that song.
What I love about this channel, other than absolutely everything, is Elizabeth's knowledge and recognition of ability. It doesn't have to be music or technique you like to recognise and admire incredible ability. Also the emotion and expressions... those are pretty funny too :D Loved this!
One of my favourite songs of them is Numb. You must listen to it, David Draiman’s voice in that song is just mesmerising. Changes tones masterfully.
Yes!!! My favorite Disturbed song❤
Stupefy and Shout (TFF cover) were the first songs I heard from them in 2000 or 2001 and they sound just as fresh and awesome now as they did then.
Disturbed is one of my favorite bands. One of my favorite songs is Prayer.
This album is my childhood lol. Dad got the cd when it came out and this is all I listened to in his truck
Cheers,
Mike L 😎🇨🇦✌🏼
God I loved this song as a young kid as this album (along with Hybrid Theory) is what developed my love for Rock. Draiman has such power and "that demon" you referred to is exactly what he can do. I remember reading this song is about breaking off an engagement due to the stress the woman was putting on the man to get married and the man wanting to have sex before marriage. They couldn't get over the difference and lost their eventual marriage.
I remember so many old-school metal fans refused to embrace this, but I always thought it was great. 🤘🤘
I love how incredibly percussive he is with his voice
I just love their music. "Voices", "The Vengeful One", "Indestructible" and "Stricken" would be some great ones to react to. If you're familiar with Phil Collins, which I think you've reacted to before. Disturbed did a cool cover of "Land Of Confusion" utilizing David's "WackaWacka Monster" 😁. I don't know but talking about the monster name I just thought of the "WackaWacka Monster". 😂
If you're thinking about their mascot that they used in that video, he's called The Guy. Plain and simple. But the WackaWacka Monster sounds awesome 😄
I'm seeing Disturbed for the second time this upcoming Saturday in Phoenix. I can't wait!!
Disturbed - Never Again. That song gives me chills everytime.
Especially the Live in Tel Aviv video ... (!)
Brave and the Bold helped me a lot when I was in a situation like that.
Absolutely love the light! And I agree with you, it should get more attention!
I appreciate that you are both tough and kind. It's a beautiful thing
