    Good stuff. Didn't hear my main reason for buying 19's: the extra sidewall is really needed on the rough pot holed streets here in Philly. Small sidewall tires get more shear force on them on potholes, etc. and blow them out faster.

    What is the weight difference of the wheel and tire combo?
    What are the width and offset dimensions of all 4 wheels in the video?
    Are you factoring in the weight of the aero wheel cover of the factory 19s?
    How much range did you gain?
    How much gain in acceleration 0-60 & 0-100?
    Can I run a 265/40R19 with your 19” wheels or the factory ones?

    Looks much better in the 21". For our Canadian winters, I have a set of 21" rims mounted on 21" winter tires for my 2024 Y Performance, so yes; they are available. I do get the benefits of 19" tires/rims for both efficiency and snow/ice handling... but in my opinion it doesn't look good on the YP. Great video though, very informative. Thank you.

  • @jjarv1531
    @jjarv1531 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Won’t the aerodynamics for those rims negatively impact the range more than you would gain from the wait savings? They look great and I’d have no issues throwing 19s on a performance

    • @TSportline
      @TSportline  2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Based on our driving with these wheels, there is little to no difference in range impact compared to factory 19". Also, when downsizing from 21" Uberturbine to any 19" you'd see better range and efficiency regardless of which style wheel you run.

  • @tb3901
    @tb3901 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Thanks for the video! Are the weights you mention with tire on or wheel only? What are your thoughts on a taller tire profile for your 19s? The 45s seem a bit short and make the combo a bit smaller in the wheel well vs the 21s.

    • @TSportline
      @TSportline  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The weights mentioned are for wheels only. We offer a 275/45-19 which offers a wider tire with more sidewall. Since the overall tire diameter is nearly identical to the 21" over diameter, it fills up the wheel well just as well as the 21" wheel and tire combo.

    • @TSportline
      @TSportline  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Cross Climate 2 is the best all season tire for snow, unfortunately Michelin has not yet released them in the proper size for the Y. You may want to consider the Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4 tire as well.

    An additional benefit not mentioned is that your chances of surviving rim damage is greatly improved if you hit a pot hole on the road at high speed which can happen frequently if one is not paying close attention to driving conditions. Additional cushion distance between road contact and rim is generally greater on 19” wheels. 👍. Great video and very informative 👍

    It's a damn shame Tesla doesn't offer a smaller unstaggered wheel option for the performance models. I didn't want to buy a performance only to have to pay another few thousand just to downsize the wheels. I had read stories about ride harshness and door panel rattles and that's precisely why I went with a long range Y with the stock 19" Gemini wheels a few years ago. I could have them powder coated black after the tires wear out, but might go with some Tesla-specific aftermarket wheels like these if the price difference isn't too much.

    Where do I get the lift?

  • @davidnickson
    @davidnickson 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    Thanks for the video! Of course the reason you get asked this question so often is that Tesla themselves sow doubt and confusion. In their own shop the Y 19" winter tyre package is stated as not being compatible with the performance version. And...last week I placed an order for a new YP and the sales adviser (I live in MN) specifically emailed me with a warning about other wheels needing to "factor in the larger barrel size of the rim necessary to fit the performance brake calipers". It would be helpful to know if there's something specific about your TS5 that makes all of this compatibility stuff a non-issue. As of today - you aren't showing any 19" winter tyre/wheel packages available on your website...when will they be back?

    • @TSportline
      @TSportline  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Our fitment allows for proper clearance of the performance calipers, which includes width and offset.

  • @LuisLopez-zi7xh
    @LuisLopez-zi7xh 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Great video!!! Just had a quick question, due to the 21” wheels being staggered…. There are no tire rotations to perform on the MYP? Does this mean the tires are just bound to not last as long or dk you recommend still rotating them side to side instead of an X- rotation?

    • @LuisLopez-zi7xh
      @LuisLopez-zi7xh 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Also, at what mileage count should those side to side tire rotations be done?

    • @TSportline
      @TSportline  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great question. With the factory 21" staggered wheels, you can rotate driver side to passenger side but not front to rear. You can do so only if your tires are not directional. With this, you'll have more wear in the rears than the front tires. Tire rotations in these cars should normally be done within 5k to 6k miles.

      The only reason Tesla has 10.5 inch wheels with 275/35/21 tires is to balance load. 255/35/21 are 98 so if you want square set up on 21’s you’d need 265/35/21. But imo 265 is too wide for front of this vehicle. I’ve tried it and you lose nimble turning feel. But back wheels with 103 load are just too heavy and slow the 0-60 by .5 seconds. 0-60 with stock wheels gave me 3.65-3.9 and 20” wheels gave me 3.3-3.4. 19 inch gave me 3.25. 3.25 in a vehicle that large is crazy fast. BUT you cannot avoid stiff ride because suspension is stiffer.
      MYLR sits higher and softer ride with 4.2 on acceleration boost. I’ve owned both vehicles and although I love the model Y performance if I have to choose one I choose the long range for the ride comfort.

      @@TSportline the RFTs seem to be 1-2 lbs heavier. For example a Pirelli Centurato only weighs 2lbs more than the equivalent size Michelins pilot spot AS in the same size. I don't understand why Tesla doesn't sell the 21-inch size as an option on the Model Y Performance.
    The 19 or 20 inch size would be more than enough for road use and the comfort would be better (especially in 19 inches...), even if the suspension of the performance models is already hard.
    For these reasons, I'm not keen on buying Performance.

      21" definitely goes well with the more sporty Performance car, but 19" and 20" options are often preferred by many Performance owners.

      most of the Tesla owners I've met (as a Tesla owner, myself) have no concept of how vehicles work and wouldnt know to think about this. I'd wager an appreciable portion would want that option, too, if it were explained to them. I regret not selling my 21" before putting miles on them, because they also damage the edges very very easily. My 20 year old corvette track only car doesnt have the damage with 105k total miles on it, probably ~4000 of that on tracks, autox, etc, that my model Y has after 24k street miles. Browsing T-sportline packages right now ;)
