    This is an amazingly concise and informative video. Thank you so much... I just purchased a Y long range with 19"s as a result of your noise/sound test. I'll take 4db quieter any day. I wish the whole world was 4db quieter. Nice job thank you.

    I dumped the 21” UT from my 2022 PMY and replaced them with some 18s with 245/50s squared from TSportLine. Made a significant improvement in ride, noise, efficiency and performance. And I no longer fear curbs or pot holes. Tesla should off this option again.

      Can you fit 18" on the Y performance ? how about room for the brake caliber ?

    • @ItsOnlyElectric
      @ItsOnlyElectric  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes there's is 18" wheels made for performance. But be careful and make sure they fit. Too tight can harm the calibers.

      Interesting. My mom is getting a Y and I'm helping her research this stuff. What efficiency and performance changes did you notice? Any issues with the 19s becoming more sluggish or vague feeling in cornering? And lastly what tire did you choose?

    • @ryankibler7973

      No one seems to have a comparison between the 21s and 18s! I'm looking to do the same with my MYP. No one will.answer if 0-60 is improved!!! How is it?

    • @ItsOnlyElectric
      @ItsOnlyElectric  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ryankibler7973 not optimal tuning 18" on your model y performance. Don't forget that this bigger calipers on the front need enough air flow not to overheat. And debree may get stock between the calipers and the rims and scratch the inside of the rim or the disks if you are unlucky.

    Is the überturbines worth the difference in consumption? 1 year of driving (15000km) will result in a energy loss of 90kWh.

    You should had used 19" summer tyres: - probably even more efficient but probably a bit noisier than the winter tyres...

  • @oz7564
    @oz7564 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Just to add.
    - 21" offers better traction in addition to the looks. 21" comes with high performance wider tires.
    - Not all tires are created equal. The tires from different manufacture/models will change the results even for the same tire/wheel size. Look for rolling resistance rating to estimate impact on energy consumption.

    • @ItsOnlyElectric
      @ItsOnlyElectric  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Of course. But I'm comparing two set of tires with the same rolling resistance class B. I clearly show this in the video. 😊

    Btw, yesterday I swapped from the Nokian R5 (21" winters) to the PZ4Z 21" summers.
    Did not do any range or efficciency tests, but I do notice the car was more silent on R5.
    Most likely its due to the softer winter rubber, but I have the same size: 275/255 on 21.
    So the difference in "comfort" might be smaller on the 21".
    I also think the Nokian R5 have less stretch on the rims than the PZeros..
    The summer tires should be said: need a bit warm temp for the rubber to be soft enough, so start of summer you will also get a bit more noise.

    • @ItsOnlyElectric

      Yes, my opinion is that the 21" with standard p zero Tyres are a bit too narrow.

    winter tires vs summer? ofc. winter tires will have more consumption(softer rubber. different lamell structure to have more friction on ice and snow). Also the softer rubber makes those quieter too. Some taxi drivers on my country use those winter tires year round to have quieter ride for themselves and customers(which is not so good idea for safety).

      With the right tires you may get a lower 0-60 speed with the 19" wheels since the package gets lighter. But my 19" wheels runs on soft rubber studless tires and therefore looses a bit of the torque resistance and goes and does 0-60 slower.

    The Uber turbine tires are crazy expensive! I replaced the back tires at 22,000 miles after 9 months of driving and cost me 1100 bucks! Presently, I now have 41,000 miles and the back tires needed replacing again. As a result, I decided to go with 19 inch Gemini wheels and all season continental tires ( low resistance) and so far I am at 251 wh/ mile compared to 277 wh/ mile with the Uber turbine wheels. Here in Florida the roads are like sandpaper! Much cheaper to replace 19 inch tires and more selection of tires! The Uber turbines are the best looking though! Great review. Subscribed 😊

I even saw some people in USA do front 265/40-21 and rear 295/40-21, that's increasing the OD and therefor show less correct speed, however the car then has less air in arches so it looks lower and they say it feels more comfortable.

      But I think I will buy some lighter wheels in 20", maybe Japan Racing SL01 and fit square 275. Doing a bit lower ET and not 10.5" wide rims.
      I did however for fun try to fit the 10.5 rear wheel in the front position yesterday, it seemed to fit. I did not drive with it, but seems 10.5" wheels fit fine in front. However since the 275 tires is too narrow I thinnk for a 10.5" rim I wouldnt do this anyways..

      @@ItsOnlyElectric Yes, I reduced overall weight on the wheels by 10kgs per wheel by going for semi forged light rims and low weight tyres. Total kgs per wheel is 21 kgs, the 21" uberturbines weigh about 31.3 kgs. (Rim+tyre). So the moment of inertia is less. The tyres have good drainage for water/melted ice which helps also. The aerodynamics of the rim design is also very important, but the biggest factor is wheel weight.

  • @ca-lt1fc
    @ca-lt1fc 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    i think the issue here is rotational weight and tire design! the heavier the wheel, more energy is needed to rotate, so milage, acceleration, ride comfort and breaking will all be impacted. as for noise either/both tires are steel belted radials so as the tread wears the noise level will increase... we have a 2023 model 3 and a 2024 model Y and both vehicles have 19" wheels and no plan to invest in changing them.
    on a side note here...people that buy a depreciating asset and continue to throw after taxed descretionary $$$ at changes for ego are people that are likely to never become wealthy!

    • @ItsOnlyElectric
