What does Sam Heughan love about Scotland? The Outlander star and author of new book Waypoints joins Jackie in the studio to discuss some of his recent adventures. Together, they chat about some of Scotland’s most important historical sites, the value of spending time in the great outdoors, and how Outlander has helped to rejuvenate interest in the nation’s past.
Having filmed in several National Trust for Scotland locations, Sam has become well-acquainted with some of the most beautiful places the nation has to offer. He reveals some of his favourite places to film, how the experience of Outlander has affected him personally, and what drives his passion for Scottish history. Plus, he reads a short extract from Waypoints.

Great to hear your honesty & love of Scotland. It has always been a place I wanted to see. I am 83 now so I guess I have missed that boat also. Wish this interview was a video. Hard to hear your voice without seeing your wonderful face. Love you Sam.

What a lovely conversation. I am a true fan of Outlander but more so of Sam. The way he has matured into the overwhelming success is a testament to his character. My wish for him is to find love and certainly reproduce!…his life will be enriched beyond measure. Acting will pale in comparison…just ask his mom😍
I listened to the audiobook and loved it! It is thoughtful and humorous, part adventure and part memoir. It made me respect Sam even more than I had. I also bought the hardcover book with the photos inside.

Great interview! As a descendant of many Scots, who immigrated or were transported to America, I love to hear about Scotland. Thank you Sam for sharing your story and the stories about Scotland. I can't wait to read your new book. And I am planning a trip to Scotland! I am training to do a lot of walking when I get there.
There are so many Scottish people in America. There are a lot of us in NC, Tennessee, Arkansas, moving West. My Father’s middle name is Boyd, which I believe is Scottish. My usband has some McLean ancestors and we are planning to go to Scotland in the future.
What a wonderfully candid interview! listening to Jackie chat with Sam is very soothing and enlightening, they compliment each other perfectly with Jackie’s sensible questions and Sam’s honest and down to earth answers, the best interview I have heard in a long time! I was riveted listening to Sam’s ‘Waypoints’ Audio book never lost interest for a second it grabbed my attention from beginning to end, likewise his ‘Clanlands’ book and ‘Almanac’ there aren’t many books that I would consider reading more than once, Sam is the exception to that rule, he is one impressive Author ✍️ and celebrity, thank you 🙏 for sharing 😊

That was the best interview ever I usually drift off halfway through as most seem to comprise mainly of self gratification. This was so different it was a quiet narrative of a journey of self discovery telling Sam's journey both physically and mentally. Their voices were soft and in my imagination Sam took me on the journey with him. Thankyou for a wonderful interview I've asked for the book for Christmas and can't wait to settle down with it and lose myself in Scotland.

When you next visit the American west try going to Monument Valley in Arizona. It will give new meaning to our insignificance while exposing the magnificence of rock formations that are 160 million years old. Humbling and I am sure as the spiritual as places in Scotland.
