This was incredibly helpful. Got my 20+ year old Hotpoint washing machine back in action in a matter of minutes! Such an easy fix. Just a couple of things to note. I may have missed this in the product description on the website, but the agitator assembly comes with the coupling. I order both the agitator assembly and the coupling. The agitator assembly does not, however, come with the screw to attach the assembly to the base of the machine. For my Hotpoint machine, the old screw was too short. That screw DOES come with the separate coupling part that I bought, however, so all is good. The agitator itself is just a bit shorter than the one I replaced, but I don’t think this should be a major issue. This video saved me from having to spend hundreds of dollars to have a repair technician come in to do a job that I was easily able to do myself, with help from this video.

Important note: If the agitator is on too tight , fill the washer with hot water and let it stand for about 30 minutes. Empty the basin and then try grabbing the agitator or use a rope to remove it. The hot water serves to loosen the grip of the agitator on the hub.

This was really helpful! Mine wouldn’t budge even with pry bars, soaked it in hot water for 30 mins and pulled it off with my hands right away.

Ok you don't say why you would want to replace. I have this model and it doesn't seem to grab when washing so i was wondering if there were "agitator dogs" or some other part that wore out?

What is the model number of your washer? When you say it doesn't seem to grab are referring to the agitator not grabbing or what isn't grabbing?

Just grasp the cap and pull it off you do not need a screw driver
